roodboy Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 First time user of Priceline and this forum - seems like some good tips!Need 2 nights in Boston 2nd to 4th May - looking for a 4* in Copley Square zone - wouldnt mind 3.5* but seems to be a couple of options I would prefer to avoid in that category.Bid $100 and was rejected - if I understand correctly, I am looking for zones without a 4* hotel to give a rebid option? Can anyone help me with identifying those zones? Thanks
yellowdog Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding :) if I understand correctly, I am looking for zones without a 4* hotel to give a rebid option? Can anyone help me with identifying those zones?Yes, you need zones without 4* hotels in it. It's very important that you know how to determ the zones. The board would be happy to confirm the zones for you. Please start with reading this link: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained Just post with any additional question. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.PS. Always doublecheck your zones before each bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since preivously checking.
roodboy Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 Ok if I have done it right then I worked out that the following Boston areas have no 4* option and so are rebid zones:3 Brighton6 Fenway Park7 Medford8 North Cambridge11 South BostonIf I do a standard search on hotels in Boston on Priceline then it comes up with 30 different hotels, are these the only hotels that I could get through 'Name Your Own Price' ?
thereuare Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Yes, the above are your FIVE re-bid zones when searching for a 4* hotel in Boston. The "retail" and "bidding" versions of PRICELINE each use a different universe of hotels so you shouldn't expect the ones showing in the retail section to necessarily be one that you will win when bidding. Many hotels participate in both arms of the site, but some only participate in the retail section while others only participate in the bidding section. If you'd like help with a bidding strategy let us know your maximum bid and if Copley Square is the only zone you're willing to accept. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. roodboy Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 Ok thanks for the help - at the moment Copley Square is the only zone I want - although I may extended the area if I dont find anything nearer the dates.I was hoping to get something for around $100 (as I have seen a couple of successful bids around $90 in this thread) but my bid at that price was already rejected - I am willing to pay up to $140 but obviously want to get it for much less!Any tips are appreciated.
thereuare Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 With just under 2 weeks to go, do you want to keep your bidding at $100 maximum or do you want to bid higher at this point in time?I'll also point out that Monday nite is MUCH more expensive than Sunday nite, i'm assuming no interest in SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID given this is only a 2 nite stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. roodboy Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 Im going to keep bidding at $100 this week and will step it up next week if no success.Didnt realise that Monday would be a lot more than Sunday - not sure I would want to split as it would be too much hassle to move about. Thanks for the help anyway.
