gonow Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Taking my 10yr old daughter to see The City on 4/29-5/2. Highly prefer TS for the visual impact on her first trip. For the last month i've been bidding for a 4* or 3.5* (I'm getting less picky as the time approaches. )Tonight I bid up to $195 for 3.5*- no luck. Here's what i did: 3.5* TS for $170add Chelsea $180, add LI City $190, add UES $195. Not accepted!I'd really like to stay in TS, would prefer a 4* (not excited about the Muse as a kid hotel though), and will pay up to $250 or more if I HAVE to. 3.5* would be fine (not excited about Stay or the Time though), and will pay up to $250 if needed.Hotwire doesn't seem to have anything decent under $280 or so; just about the going rate if you go to the hotel's websites. We're now 18 days away- anyone offer some advice?
gonow Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 i have triied again using the PRICELINE link from ths site- still no luck. anybody offerr some advice?thanks!
thereuare Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 My advice would be to expand your search to other areas... while you're 10 year old may like all the lights and crowds of Times Square, there is plenty else in the city which will amaze her, and there is no need to stay directly in this zone, imo (it's not as if you're assured of a room overlooking Times Square and she'll be able to stare out the window every evening staring at the people below) If you haven't seen it yet, give this thread a read: Hotels Near Times Square. However, ultimately it's your vacation and budget, and if this is the only zone you want, do you want your next move to be a bid up to your $250 limit for a 4* before trying for a 3.5*... or how much more is a 4* worth to you vs. a 3.5*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Romelle Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 My grandkids have always been intrigued with the whole process of riding a metro train - everything from the ticket machines and turnstiles to the huge escalators to the actual train itself. And if you are out a bit from the center, there are usually wonderful tiny little cafes that locals enjoy. The United Nations complex is pretty amazing if they've touched on that at school. Central Park in the day is full of interesting happenings. As thereuare said - it is indeed your vacation and budget - but thought I'd toss in a few things for your consideration for other areas. It is even possible to enjoy those bright lights and stay out at a budget deal at the Newark airport. For that you have to REALLY like those trains, but it is possible. And the ride is actually a bit scenic. Romelle
gonow Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks, this is good advice. I will start looking at MTW and MTE, as long as I'm very close to a subway, we're good. For others in the same boat, I also found the thread Priceline NYC Zone Descriptions helpful. Of course, I'll use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links from this site, and will report back as things develop.Cheers.
