mayagrace Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 My mom and I are visiting NYC on May 21st-22nd for one night (Friday night). I currently have a reservation at Park Savoy hotel (158 W. 58th St) for $165/night (I was told by the hotel that this price includes tax). I am wondering if it is worth trying priceline for a better deal or if I should stick with what I have. Since it is only for one night, I am not too concerned about the hotel particulars as long as it is clean and safe. I like the location of Park Savoy, just South of Central Park. I have planned a fairly tight itinerary assuming we would be at this location. However, most of what we are doing is in Midtown or Downtown, so a hotel further south should also be okay. But I also want to be close to a subway station. So, I am wondering if I can do better or if I should just stick with what I have.A little background: this will be mom's first trip to NYC and my second. I have also never used priceline, though I have read through the posts on this board and have a pretty good idea of how it works. Thanks for any help.
thereuare Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! This property is generally rated 2*-2.5* by most sites and we don't usually recommend PRICELINE bidding at low rated hotels such as this... while there are some hotels at this star level which will satisfy your needs, there others which are not, and with PRICELINE you don't get a chance to choose which type you will get.A higher rated hotel will likely cost you a little more than your current reservation, so if you're not looking to spend more than your current reservation, i would stick with what you have. mayagrace Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 Two of us are coming to NYC on Friday, 5/21/10 for one night. I have a reservation at Park Savoy for $165 all-in. I was advised on this board that I probably would not do better than that on Priceline or Hotwire. However, our plans have changed a bit and we now need to leave a little earlier than we thought on Saturday afternoon. We have a tour scheduled at the Lower East Side Tenement museum from 12:30 - 1:30 and then need to get back to Newark airport that afternoon. If we stay at Park Savoy, this will mean that we either have to take our luggage with us to the museum or get back up to the Hotel (on W. 58th) to pick up our luggage and then back down to Penn Station. I am not sure we will have time to do this. So, I am thinking it might make more sense to get a Hotel in the downtown / Soho area near the museum or in the Chelsea area near Penn Station. This way we could pick up our luggage more easily on the way to the train. So, any suggestions about options for these areas. I chose Park Savoy because it offered a good price and was close to subway stops. What can I expect in terms of price and convenience in downtown and/or near Penn Station? Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I'm guessing that you may be able to get a 3* or 3.5* hotel in the Downtown area for about $165 or so (bid price).Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
