abridgel Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Hello I am looking to visit New York for a week in August - we would like a 4* hotel for the average tourist so most things are accessible for us.I am hoping to spend around $125 but am willing to go to a max of $150.In general what are the best 4* hotels in New York. Some friends of ours stayed at the Grand Hyatt and said it was really nice.I am familiar with the re-bidding system.
AaronJB Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Good morning. :)There is no way to target a particular property via PRICELINE; one has to be willing to accept any of the possible properties. Which zones would you be interested in bidding for? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! With PRICELINE and HOTWIRE you can't choose which hotel you want, so there is generally not much benefit to discuss which hotels are the "best"... more important to discuss which zones contain hotels which are potentially a 'problem' (either not living up to quality or convenient location)At the 4* level, MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB typically work fine for the average visitor. Please take a look at these zones to determine if you think all/any of them would work well for your needs. While this is typically "low season" in NYC, at the moment $125 looks a little aggressive for a 4* hotel, although a $150 bid may be enough at this time. Given you're about 4 months ahead of your stay, how high are you willing to bid at this point in time?Let us know regarding the zones and your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. abridgel Posted April 16, 2010 Author Report Posted April 16, 2010 I think my max bid at the moment would be 150All the areas you suggested are fine.
thereuare Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. abridgel Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 Hi I will be trying to bid again soon - any new strategies?
thereuare Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Please update your threads after bidding (as even failed bids can help others save time if their dates are the same as yours) as well as respond to answers replied to your questions... have you tried bidding the above at all? You asked about a HOTWIRE property but when asked for the amenities we didn't hear from you for 2 months (so i'm guessing you weren't really interested in that one)Is $150 still your maximum bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.... please click this PRICELINE link before replying. abridgel Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 Sorry didn't get around to posting the amenities and now the hotwire listing is no longer there.I am still looking for 4* in the the above zones. What would be my re-bid zones for a 3.5*? For 3.5* I think the max I would pay would be 110 in MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB
abridgel Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 Please confirm these are the correct re-bid zones for 4*BrooklynChelseaConey IslandLong Island CityUpper EastsideMSGPlease confirm these are the correct re-bid zones for 3.5*ChelseaConey IslandLong Island cityUppder Eastside
abridgel Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 At a bid of $126 for 3.5* I got a message from PRICELINE to inscrease my bid by 20 dollars to $146 and they would process the bid again for me.What is a good strategy at this point?
abridgel Posted June 22, 2010 Author Report Posted June 22, 2010 Once I got the message from Priceline to up my bid by 20 dollars and retry I upped my bid to $140 for 3.5* and still no dice.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Yes, you have your re-bid zones above correct. Are you willing to bid up to $146 for a 3.5* hotel? (if not, how high are you willing to bid?) Which zone(s) and re-bid zone(s) did you include in the bid when you received the counter-offer?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
abridgel Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 For around $146 I would hope to get a 4* for that time of year. I was willing to go as high as $140 and I did bid that but the bid was rejected.I believe I bid on MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and Chelsea when I got the message from Priceline to increase my bid by 20 bucks for the original amount of $126.At $132 I also got a message about increasing my bid by 20 dollars and I elected not to as well.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 You still have plenty of time between now and your stay, but you're not willing to bid any higher, you may at least want to also consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID if your bids are still rejected a month from now. While summer in NYC is typically 'low season', it can only take one nite of a multi-nite stay to cause an otherwise acceptable bid to be rejected. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated as to your progress and if we can be of further help along the way. abridgel Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 I randomly changed our dates and got the Sheraton New York Hotel And Towers at 150 per night for 5 nights (Aug 1st to August 6th)It was my first bid at 4* inMTE, MTW, TS
AaronJB Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Congratulations on your success. :)Superb Summer Sheraton deal! Hope you are pleased with the result and are looking forward to your stayThank you for sharing your result with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
