Cosi Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 I have tried today to get a 3 star hotel at Fisherman's Wharf , San Francisco with Priceline.. for June 12-13th. I was hoping for Best Western , or Holiday Inn Express. I first selected 3 star , and 58, and it asked me change something , I went up in price, it still asked me to change something, I hd no choice, it selected 3 and 1/2 stars for me.. and then still I had to change area! I picked Lombard St. I still did not win anything:( What am I doing wrong? check-in check-out areas selected minimum star level bid 06/12/2010 06/13/2010 Fisherman's Wharf, Marina - Lombard Street $60 check-in check-out areas selected minimum star level bid 06/12/2010 06/13/2010 Fisherman's Wharf $58 Thank you for any help! Nicole
Gallus50 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Hi Nicole - You're not guaranteed a win - perhaps they don't have anything in your price range and you have to bid higher at those levels. You should read the FAQ's on this board; they'll help alot. They'll also explain free rebids, and there are plenty in SF. Sounds to me like for FW you should be close. Keep trying and let us know what happens.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!I first selected 3 star , and 58, and it asked me change something , I went up in price, it still asked me to change something...PRICELINE requires that you lower the star rating, add a zone, or change your check-in and/or check-out date in order to bid again... you can't change only the price.it selected 3 and 1/2 stars for me...When you select a star rating it is the minimum you are willing to accept, PRICELINE automatically also checks higher star ratings to see if they can find a higher rated hotel to accept your bid price. So when you bid for a 3* hotel, PRICELINE also checked for a 3.5* hotel willing to accept your bid, which is why the 3.5* box was also selected/greyed out after your 3* bid. What is your maximum bid for this stay? Are you willing to pay more for a 3.5* property or is your goal the least expensive 3* or better hotel in this zone? Are any of the Downtown zones acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Cosi Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 I would pay up to 100.00. I really want the Fisherman's Wharf area only. I was pressing 3 star cause I knew the Best Western, and Holiday Inn Express were 3 star. I put in 60.00 cause I read everyone was winning this at 60.00. It would be great to get a hotel in that area for that price, but as I said we would go higher within that area. THANKS!
Cosi Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 In case I end up using Hotwire, (seems easier than Priceline), does anyone know which hotel this could be- Fishermans Wharf, SFO-Juner 12-13, it says it is a boutique hotel, has restaurant, internet, adn is going for 115 a night. It has 3 stars. And would what you think the hotel is, would it be worth that price. THANKS.Nicole.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 So where do you stand regarding a 3* vs. 3.5*... are you willing to pay more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR do you actually prefer a 3* property (over the 3.5* properties)??Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Given that you've tried up to $60 for a 3* (the star rating and bid price of the wins you were trying to duplicate) do you know what to first try for a 3.5* up to your limit... or do you have some other gameplan? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Did you mean I pick 3.5*, and bid 100?? If you don't mean this can you type what to do step by step? :)I won't be in the room that much for one day. I would love not to spend alot. Coming back I will need to do two nights in SFO....one of those nights not getting there til 9PM., and then spending the whole next day/night there to sightsee. Do you have any ideas for that ? Should I pick 3* and bid the 60.00 for those two nights coming back .(6-17- 6-19). When they ask for another zone I picked the Lombard St. Was that the right thing to do??? Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 No, i wouldn't simply bid for a 3.5* at $100...You posted that you originally bid for a 3* hotel at $60 because you had seen others win two particular hotels at that price level. Since you have bid $60 for a 3 star hotel, and have been turned down, i'm asking if you want to continue to bid higher for a 3* hotel OR do you now want to try bidding higher from here for a 3.5* property?Does that make sense/make it clearer? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Cosi Posted April 16, 2010 Author Report Posted April 16, 2010 I ended up using PRICELINE, and paid 100 per night Best Western Fisherman's Wharf. I tried all combinations. and nothing was working. I had to press 3 stars to make a 100 bid work. Maybe I did it wrong, but I am still happy with that price. With a triple A discount that hotel goes for 206.10 per night. So I did good.. (in my eyes). Thanks for trying to help.
