bighoffdog
Hope someone can help my confusion. On Tuesday, when PL bidding on downtown 3 & 4* hotels ( through SB) for a 2 night stay (June 6-8) I was rejected after final bid of $65. Rejected Wed.at $67. Did all of the free bid tricks w/ other 2* only areas. No baseball game in town. Really want a 3*. Ready to try again today. But.......When looking at the PL non-opaque list for PIT, I see 5 geographical areas. All of the downtown area PIT hotels include the Downtown and University designation. However, when bidding, the geo. areas expand to seven. A West Mifflin is added but most importantly, the downtown and university areas are then separate. I prefer to be in the true downtown area and haven't checked the university box.Does anyone know if I am excluding all of the downtown hotels because I am not checking the university box too? I still have some time but would like to know how PL determines the available downtown only hotels vs. the university only hotels. Overnight, the Hilton dropped off PL for those dates.Anyone know? I'll post my eventual successful bid. Link to comment
lowballer
If you are asking whether there are any downtown hotels in the "University" zone or vice versa, the answer is no. They're completely separate parts of taaaahhn.I've never heard that area referred to as "University Center", btw. Not all of it is convenient to Pitt and CMU, in fact. It would be better called "Oakland/Shadyside" or somesuch.PL's opaque zones should be considered on their own without regard to what is offered transparently. Very often the opaque zones are drawn specifically to include or exclude specific properties, and sometimes have strange boundaries. The Pittsburgh North zone is an example of this. Another is that the downtown zone includes Station Square across the Mon and thus the Sheraton there. That is actually the bigger concern when bidding 3* "downtown". Link to comment
