Kathy D
Hello,From what I unsderstand Priceline name your own price usually, if not always, beats Hotwire.I've been looking for a 4 star hotel in Times Square & been tracking Hotwire prices and using them as a reference to bid on Priceline. My dates are this weekend (check in Fri 2/22 - check out Sun 2/24.Hotwire has been between 139.00 - 154.00 changing daily.I've bid from 95.00 - 120.00 using free re-bids on PL - all deniedHotwire today has a 4 star rate of 109.00 for Times Sq - That seems like a very good rate.Due to the 24 hour re-bid policy I can't bid on PL till about 5pm tonight. My question is, do you think I should wait till 5 & try PL, or just grab the 109.00 rate on Hotwire so I don't risk losing itYour site is awesome and very helpful, thank you in advance for any help you can provide with my question.Kathy Link to comment

thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages. It appears that there may have been a slight change in zone boundaries and that the Sheraton New York is not in the Times Square zone. If so, the Sheraton New York, or the Westin Times Square, would be my best guess for this one.If this is the Sheraton that would be in PRICELINE's MTW zone, and if you bid that zone you could end up further away from Times Square (assuming this is the only zone you're willing to accept)... so while this may be cheaper on PRICELINE, you may not get this hotel and not be as close to Times Square.Given the 4.5/5.0 HOTWIRE user feedback across the board for this property i'd be inclined to take it since:1) it's in the zone you want2) it's less then you have previously bid3) even if not one of the two above it appears to be a 'good' one and well reviewedIf you were bidding other zones i might be inclined to wait as there would be more hotels that could possibly offer a good deal, but if just bidding this one zone i'd take the HOTWIRE offer. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Kathy D
Thank you for your replyStrange, I searched Hotwire again, it was still there for same dates (109.00 4 start Times Sq 2/22-2/24)I entered all the info to buy, but instead of a confirmation it took me to an error page - the purchase did not go thru.So I went back & searched again and now there is no offering for a 4 star in Times Square, just 4.5 & 5 stars.Has anyone ever had this problem? thereuare
It happens sometimes... the non-tech answer is that the hotel was available earlier but in the interim it was sold or the hotel retracted the inventory. Is anything else currently showing within your budget for your dates? With an hour to go are you first going to try PRICELINE again? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Kathy D
Tried Pricline last night, only using 2 free rebids, thinking I wanted to save a few for today if denied (and not have to wait 24 hours) incase availability changed overnight.I tried TS 95.00, deniedAdded Coney Island 100.00, deniedAdded QueensboroBridge 110.00 deniedI'll update again later Link to comment
Kathy D
As a final follow up, I got the 4 star Westin Times Sq for 125.00I was denied at 5.00 increments up to 115.00 and had only 1 more free re bid so I raised to 125.00 and got the Westin.I wonder if I bid 120.00 would have I got it, but we are leaving tomorrow morning so didn't want to stress over it.Hotwire offer for 4 star TS was 143.00, and based on amenities, I assume that was the Westin too.Perhaps could have done a bit better but overall I think it's a good deal, love to hear honest opinions of more seasoned bidders and/or reviews from anyone that has stayed there.I left this reply here because its where the topic started but if you would like it posted to the Priceline forum let me know, I'll gladly post thereThank you very much for the info this site provides Link to comment
