Priceline Hotel: Bidding Strategy Austin Downtown 3* and above

Hi,

I need two hotel nights in Austin Check In 10-19-2012 Check Out 10-21-2012 while I am in town for a football game. Published rates for 3* properties are $300+ for downtown. Hotwire has a 2.5* property for $190 and nothing rated higher. What do you think I can realistically get for something in Downtown Austin via Priceline? I am fine with anything 3* and above. Do you think there is any benefit in waiting?

The best rate i'm able to find for a 3* or better hotel in this area is the Sheraton Austin at the Capitol for $279/nite. Using this as a benchmark... how high are you willing to bid for a 3* hotel before considering lowering your star rating.

If you are willing to lower your star rating there are some non-opaque options where you can pick the hotel beforehand and ensure that you're choosing one of the better budget rated properties:

Super 8 Austin Downtown Capitol area for $95/nite

Days Inn University for $118/nite

La Quinta Inn Austin Capitol for $199/nite
