Priceline Hotel: convenient zones & pricing for Sea World

DH & I hope to stay in San Diego 1 Friday night later this month. We'd like to go to Sea World b/c we can get passes on credit card rewards points.

I think San Diego Costal, Cornonado, Downtown & Point Loma/ Old Town are the most convenient zones. Are there others? We'd like to be near the beach & no more than 1/2 hour from the park w/o traffic -- yeah yeah, I know So Cal in the summer, no traffic is a joke.

What are the 4 & 3.5 stars going for? I read someone won a bid for about $110 but the system is trying to tell me that the ADR is $877. What? :)

TIA

Just my luck. Of course that's the Friday I'm talking about.

Where's the convention & how do we avoid it?

We're not totally committed to San Diego. We're flying into Ontario CA very late Thursday & have to be in Oceanside on Saturday & Sunday. The foray to San Diego was supposed to be my treat.

The convention is at the San Diego Covention Center downtown but Comic-Con is such a huge event that it affects prices all over San Diego County---all the way up to Carlsbad and Oceanside!

Have you looked at HOTWIRE? They hardly have anything in San Diego on 7/22 and what's there is way high. These are the nearest options to Sea World:

4* SeaWorld-Mission Bay $336

3.5* La Jolla $407

2.5* Downtown-Harbor Island $322

PRICELINE usually beats Hotwire on price, but that could still mean $250+ for this peak demand date.

For a hotel near the beach I think you might do better in Orange County that weekend--maybe Laguna or Huntington Beach. Since you're coming from Ontario those are sort of along the route.

Please let us know what you decide or ask if you have other questions.

Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your puchases.

We're probably going to skip San Diego or at least stay elsewhere, drive to Sea World & then go back to our hotel in Orange County for dinner.

After you told me about Comic Con I looked it up b/c it's something DH would have enjoy but it's sold out. Oh well.

At this point we're trying to decide if we want to go to Disney vs. the beach. (DH is not really a beach guy)
