  1. After a week or 2 of attempting bids, the price finally got down to the amount I wanted to pay for a 2.5 star near LAX. I was hoping for the Wingate but the Holiday Inn is fine.
  2. Wow you are dropping about 5 grand just to sleep, but that should be a nice vacation.
  3. Yea, the resort fee does suck but the night was cheap enough. Good little getaway and the beach is right there. I think 3 stars may be pushing it for this property, but that is probably has more to do with having a restaurant, pool and pool bar. Had a nice view of the marina from my room.
  4. Original Bid of $26, was triggered to bid $33 . . . got accepted at $29. Bid on the same day I stayed there.
  5. It's not a bad hotel . . . my brother in law stayed there back in January and he loved it, and he spent closer to 65 a night plus tax. It's in a good location if you aren't trying to go to the beach. Beach is a bit of a drive.
  6. Hey guys, Got this hotel deal same day after walking inside the hotel and getting rates of $119 for the room and $339 for the oceanfront suite. I ended up booking this and then paying a $100 upgrade fee for the suite . . . so $145 for a suite that was running $339 . . . not bad. I did utilize rebid zones and clicked the PRICELINE links, started my bid at $40, went to $42, then $44 and got the price at $45. Thanks
  7. Just reporting this deal I scored the day of the trip. Didn't really care where I was for this deal, but I ended up in the zone I wanted as it had the "Best Deal" designation. Wen't for a 3 star fishing for the Embassy Suites in the Downtown area: Bid $39 in the Fort Lauderdale Downtown area and got rejected Added Fort Lauderdale Beach Area and bid $40 and got rejected Added Hollywood and bid $42 and got accepted at the Hyatt Right next to the Embassy. Ended up being a good stay . . . regular rates were $119. Used PRICELINE links from the board . . . thanks.
  8. Yea a cab is going to run you about $150 . . . did you think about renting a car maybe? You can actually rent a car from MIA today (AVIS) and drop it off in Coral Springs today before 2 (or tomorrow within 24 hours of your rental today) for around 30 bucks. Factor in 10 bucks for gas (probably less) . . . and you can get there for about 40 bucks. That is probably your best option.
  9. Needed a last second hotel as I was in Orlando for the weekend with family and they left earlier but called me to let me know that traffic headed south was terrible (took them 7 hours to get to Coral Springs which is normally 3 hours at worst). I just got the DoubleTree Seaworld for a $43 price tag so I was thinking worse comes to worse I get that again. I bid $30, $35, $40, $41 and finally at $42 I struck a hotel, and to my surprise it was the Embassy Suites. Now, the Doubletree probably felt newer IMO, but this hotel had free parking, a 2 hour open bar and a free breakfast, including freshly made omlettes, plus it was a "suite" room. I just got home to Fort Lauderdale, FL after having their breakfast at 7 a.m. . . . it made the drive feel much better. Highly recommend going after this hotel from a value standpoint . . . it doesn't get better and I hope I strike it again next time in Orlando.
  10. Scored a great deal through PriceLine at the DoubleTree next to SeaWorld for $43. Been looking for a cheap stay at a decent hotel prior to my 4 day stay at Westgate Lakes resort on Memorial Weekend. They wanted $139 + tax (granted this is for a 3 bedroom villa) and that was just too much for me to shell out, this fit the bill perfectly. I started my bidding at $40, and went up in $1 increments and I hit at $43. I checked off 3.5 stars as that was the best Deal in the Orlando category. I am very happy with the selection as I was thinking they were going to give me the Rosen Plaza and I was surprised with the DoubleTree instead.
  11. Wow somebody reported they have the Westin Beach Resort for $80 that weekend, right next to Beach Place on Fort Lauderdale Beach . . . would have been a real nice spot if South beach isn't your thing for the weekend.
  12. I mean it really depends on you. If you don't have a car and you are trying to be on South Beach, you need to stay on South Beach. It is worth the money to do that. If you have a car, you can do like I always do every year and drive down from Fort Lauderdale. That is an easier option for me because I live in Fort Lauderdale, but even with that option, I have gotten rooms in South Beach for this weekend because of the convenience, so I suggest you do the same. That weekend is a serious crackdown on seatbelts, loud music and DUI . . . you don't want to be driving long distances and cab fare is real expensive. I looked at those dates on Priceline and they have a 2.5 Star on the Collins Beach Front as the Best Value, with prices averaging around $207. I think that is your target area if you ask me. Maybe you can land something cheap, and though you won't be directly on South Beach (I consider South Beach anything below Lincoln), the traffic and parties star well past your hotel so you will be in the middle of it all. With your budget, you just need a place to lay your head, the room/hotel won't even matter as long as you can shower and sleep . . . everything is popping outside. I have stayed at the Dorchester, which is a 2.5 in the Collins area, and it more than did the job. I am assuming you are going down for the Urban Beach Week on the weekend, if not, and being on South Beach that weekend isn't important, you could always book a room from the 22nd to the 26th on South Beach for much cheaper, and stay in Fort Lauderdale the 27th to the 30th . . . nicer hotels and cheaper prices that way, though you would be away from the party zone that weekend. Depends on you. They will be partying on Las Olas and at Beach Place that weekend as well, just not as crazy and most females actually get turned off by the "grabbing" that goes on in South Beach . . . Fort Lauderdale is actually much smoother if you ask me but South Beach is South Beach and is well known for the Memorial Weekend parties and celebrities.
  13. Yea there is no way you are going to find any hotel on South Beach under $100 on memorial weekend. It is just not going to happen. Nix the advice on Fort Lauderdale though, with the price of gas and parking you would pay by not staying on South Beach just raise your limit for the room. Traffic is going to be a nightmare, especially with the Miami Heat in the playoffs and potentially playing a home game on Saturday night. Plus they jack the parking up to $30 for many of the lots. Expect to pay $200 for something decent. The biggest problem is, for the days during the week, you can find hotels under $100, but for that weekend, many hotels require a 3 day reservation and the rooms jump from $100 to over $300 in many cases. That is why $75 a night isn't possible for all those days, though you may find $75 a night from the 22nd to the 26th.
  14. It definitely isn't a bad property. Nice rooms, pool, off in the cut, but real close to a really busy intersection at Oakland Park and University Drive. I have stayed here a few times as a weekend getaway and it does the trick. Right smack in the middle of Broward County. You are 20 minutes or less from everything.
  15. Got a great deal on this hotel in Downtown Philly for $81. Currently a night in that hotel is running $239 for that date. Hopefully I will find a cheap parking garage because $44 is pretty steep for one night, but a great deal none the less. I started my bid at $60 did $5 increments until I got to $80 . . . and then went to $1 increments and lucked out on what was my last rebid zone. I used the PRICELINE links on this board to book the deal. Thanks
  16. Hey, I have been trying to get a good deal on either the Sheraton Brooklyn (preferred) or the Sheraton Tribeca, or any other 3.5 star in the Brooklyn area. I gave up last week after bidding $90, but tried again yesterday, got denied at $97 but got accepted at $99 a night. This property has been discounted on HOTWIRE for $115 for the past few weeks, so I am excited I got it for a great price during what looks to be a real expensive time of the year in NYC . . . . 7/16/2011 to 7/19/2011 I used the PRICELINE links on this board as I have been lurking but I had to register and post my success on this property with my dates so it could hopefully help somebody else out. Thanks for the tips and advice.
