  1. Sorry--it was LaQuinta. I've stayed there a number of times on Priceline Bids--it is very conveniently located across from the largest mall in Tennessee (and so near lots of restaurants--chain and local). The price includes a continental breakfast.
  2. $30/night. $60 2 nights + 17.84 tax and service = $77.84/2 nights
  3. LaQuinta, Chattanooga, IS in the airport area. I've stayed there often and it is my preferred Chattanooga hotel--never been disappointed. Most Chattanooga restaurants are just across the street in the mall area (largest mall in TN). In my opinion, LaQuinta is a better bargain than the 2.5 Holiday Inn downtown, which Priceline users often get for a $45 bid.
  4. In North Atlanta. Very satisfied with this hotel.
  5. I just posted on the Holiday Inn at Papermill. Although it is on the west side, it is only about 10 minutes from UT. Our experience was perfect. Our wing was somewhat old (e.g., faded carpet) but immaculately clean and totally quiet. The staff was extremely accommodating. The west Knoxville hotels are near a better choice of restaurants (and also the best mall) than those on the east.
  6. 2 nights April 21-22 $28/night With taxes and service charge: $72.00 total One of our best Priceline experiences. Service was exceptional and at check-in we were asked if our assigned floor would be acceptable. Very quiet. Nearby interstate under construction, but this was not a major problem.
  7. Blind bid on Hotwire for $42/night for 2 nights. After hotel was revealed, I checked tripadvisor.com. The most recent reviews were very poor and IMHO correct. This was my first Hotwire bid, and I found this hotel very shabby and far inferior to 1* hotels I've gotten through Priceline in at least 5 states over the past 3 years. I would not bid 2* for Macon again.
  8. For one or two people with small bags, the train and subway will be as quick or quicker than a taxi or shuttle into many parts of Manhattan from the Newark Airport. The subway pass does not work on the airtrain, but the train ticket (which you get BEFORE entering the airtrain) does. You can go from the airport to Penn. Station NYC on the NJ Transit (and the trains run frequently), or for a smaller fee go to Penn Station Newark and transfer to the Path train (I haven't done the transfer--just read about it). From Penn Station, express subway trains go to Times Square (first stop) and then to 72nd or 73rd on the UWS.
  9. As of June 1, Prime Hotel and Suites became a Radisson. They still offer 14-hour shuttle service from the airport and their courtesy phone is still marked "Prime Hotel"; but they answer the phone with "Radisson," which is also the name on their van (with a small sign denoting "Prime Hotel" in the window). Though less elegant than the 3* Sheridan in the airport area, the Radisson is slightly closer to the airport, is more convenient to restaurants, and has a round-the-clock shuttle, which is very nice for an early flight.
  10. Yes, this is rated as a 3*. This hotel was formerly the Wyndham. Reviews on tripadvisor.com are very mixed. Last year the 3* hotel in the airport area that most often came up on Priceline bids was the Music City Sheraton, but it doesn't seem to be the hotel for winning bids since December. The Sheraton was truly a 3*. Prime Hotel may not be as good, but they have airport transportation (which is what I was looking for and why I decided against a 2*--not all the 2* in the airport area offer transportation).
  11. Rejected $38 Airport area. Rebid $40 after lockout period. Accepted.
  12. I much prefer the UWS as well. Last year I took a chance and got the Excelsior for $80/night (2.5) and couldn't have been happier. The Excelsior comes in for complaints about employee attitude on tripadvisor.com; but when I was there, the staff was very accommodating. I'd requested 2 beds. When I arrived at 10 a.m., the clerk said that they didn't at the moment have a 2-bed room ready for check-in but she would upgrade us to a 1-bedroom suite, which we could occupy immediately. Maybe I'm more of a budget traveler than many Priceline users, but a very quiet, clean, comfortable room in a safe area fit my needs perfectly. (I was unsuccessful in getting such a good deal this year and booked in another budget, non-chain hotel in the UWS, a hotel that usually gets excellent reviews; but I haven't yet stayed there so don't know how it will compare.) On check-out, the Excelsior happily stored our luggage free of charge until we left for the airport late in the afternoon.
