  1. where exactly is the cruise out of? i would guess most of them go out of the waterfront/seaport area. if so, that zone in priceline generally will give you either the seaport hotel, renaissance, or westin waterfront. they're all within walking distance of the piers there. i've won the renaissance myself there before and it was quite nice, but all of those hotels are nice. the seaport is the closest, the renaissance is the next closest, and the westin is the farthest, as far as distance from the piers. using lastminutetravel wisely will allow you to predict the hotel before bidding, and the seaport and westin are always on there.
  2. Even if you're close, you may not always get a counteroffer, so don't use that as the sole metric as to your closeness. The best thing is to check the HOTWIRE rate for each night individually before you first start and with each additional day of bidding, see if the HOTWIRE rate has fluctuated - if it hasn't, keep steadily increasing your bid. If it's gone up on Hotwire, you'll have to take more steep jumps most likely. If it's decreased on HOTWIRE, maybe try yesterday's offer again. I started at 75 on a room a few days ago, and got to 91 on it yesterday and got no counteroffer anywhere along the entire process. Bid the same thing today, at 96, and got it - so just know that the counters can be somewhat spontaneous.
  3. Got a counter at 91, for 116. Kept going up till the counter dropped off at 106, and won at 108. Was expecting the Melia Madrid, but this is great too.
  4. They could release more, or they could sell out, so it's always best to make a backup reservation that can be cancelled, just in case. Note that the hotel's "trigger" price lies somewhere between 115 and 142, as the 142 includes a little extra padding for Priceline themselves. I would venture to guess the actual hotel price is somewhere between 125-130/night. Note that the "North" zone in Amsterdam doesn't have any 4* hotels, so it is a free rebid zone. Were you including the airport zone or the additional zone in the bid when you got the rebid or not? Because if so, the hotel may be in any of those zones. Best advice: Go back to it at 120. It will likely counter you at 147. Go back at 123, and when the counter drops off, you're within a few bucks. Continue up in 1, 2 or 3 dollar increments as you wish to get the best deal. Good luck.
  5. This is pretty odd. I was booking for quite a few international cities for a Eurotrip coming up, and I finished my bidding for city B without getting any bites. Went back to the main page, rebid for city A. I know it was city A because it was four bid zones, and city B only has two. It came back with a hotel for City B, on the dates I had requested for city A. Anyone ever encounter this? Is this a cookies issue/should I clear the cookies after a bunch of bids or not run requests in multiple tabs on the same browser simultaneously? I contacted them (the only time I've ever had to call them), and despite the reps being overseas, they were extremely helpful and agreed to cancel the booking, as long as I rebooked for the correct city for the same dates. They sent me some email with a form link, where I can submit the new reservation info to get a refund of the previous one. Wasn't sure where else to put this. Thanks in advance for your help. And thumbs up to Priceline for their Customer Service, very impressed and I've patronized them many times and plan to continue to do so.
  6. Started at 79. At 91, got a counteroffer of +25 (or $116). Kept going, maxed out rebid zones at 102 after $1 increment increases. Then, changed my dates to drop off the last night, figuring it'd let me extend my stay at the same rate because the Hotwire rate for each night didn't change. Got the first two nights at 104. Extended for the third night at the same rate. Very happy, much less than I thought I'd have to pay! Hotwire was showing what I suspected to be the same hotel for $180 per night, quite a difference!
  7. Thank you for the informative response! I will post back about my experience after.
  8. Started at $91 last night, when I hit $95, it gave me a counteroffer of $120. Interestingly, it continued to give me this counteroffer until I went to $105 (so it countered at $130), then at $107 it stopped with the counter, so I knew I was getting close. Really wanted CPS or Times Square (or Midtown West, but I really didn't want the Sheraton Hotel & Towers so I tried to leave that out for as long as I could) so I got up to $109 last night, not realizing Coney Island, Long Island City, and Brooklyn didn't have any 4 stars and thus were free rebid zones too. Started at $110 today and got a hit with the Loews at $111. 62% off the $289 rate for the night on Hotels.com! Fantastic! Seems that there are mainly positive reviews, but one person in November on Trip Advisor said they have stuck in a smoking room after a Priceline bid. Anyone hear anything else about this? I'm thinking it's because it was a very busy season then, whereas now they're not so busy so I won't have to worry about that. And Trip Advisor has this as 4.5 stars, why does Priceline have it as 4?
  9. Hey all- So used Expedia unpublished last night and it gave me a 3.5 star which were the Rochester Park Plaza & Convention Center - not a good hotel, and they don't have an on-site restaurant according to Expedia's non-opaque hotel section, but the amenities said there would be an on-site restaurant. Had to call twice, but they finally refunded me the second time. Ran PRICELINE hoping to get the Hyatt, and it did offer it to me for $58 about a week ago, but no go today. Got the Radisson Riverside and satisfied for the price.
  10. Sure, amenities: Fitness High-speed internet Restaurant Spa Business Ctr Any help with the question I posed?
  11. Tried this on Priceline up to $80, gave me a counteroffer of $100, but PRICELINE was charging significantly more taxes and fees than HOTWIRE. It was cheaper to get Hotwire at $99 and pay the minimal taxes and fees. I believe taxes are included in the price in Europe, and so Priceline is just upcharging. QUESTION: So we are going to be there 3/18-3/25, but decided to go to Barcelona for a few days. When I ran Hotwire for 3/18-3/25, it gave me the Westin at $99 each night. But, now that I've split it up (and I didn't check the pricing of splitting it, assuming it would remain the same because the dates themselves did not change, we just took out 3 nights) and bought the tickets to Barcelona, the price for 3/23-3/25 on HOTWIRE come up as $270. Again, it's still $99 for 3/18-3/25. I've tried emailing the hotel to see if they can give me the pricing for the last two days directly. Any thoughts anyone? The prices of other hotels didn't change when I broke it up, so it doesn't seem to be an occupancy issue with the city, maybe just with the hotel. I really wanted the same hotel so we could leave our checked luggage for the inbetween days. Any help would be much appreciated.
  12. Lucky to have gotten this. Apparently there is a convention in town because I reached out to a friend who's a manager at Westin Market Street and she said they're all booked due to a convention. Prices of many hotels for the latter part of the stay (after 1/10) are $300-400, so be wary for those people who think you'll get the $95/night for Le Meridien like the recent poster. I was trying for a few days. Started at $55 for 4 star in all downtown zones (Civic, Moscone, Union Sq East & West, Fisherman's, Marina, Financial), went up to $85 and no go, no counteroffers. I then added 3.5 star and went up to $65, no go. Did the same for 4 star today, no go, but tried $65 and then $70 for 3.5 star and it was accepted. I think this is the hotel that is on Hotwire (listed as 4 star, Expedia has it as 4 star too) for $89 for these days. $200+ on hotel site so satisfied. Read many good reviews too.
  13. Congrats Maurice! I like Last Minute Travel a lot, for future bookings regardless of the occasion. I got the Fairmont Battery Wharf on LMT and it is brand new and gorgeous - highly recommend. I am staying there again in December.
  14. Got the New Yorker on Priceline for $111 for these dates. Guess I saved a few bucks instead of using Hotwire. Thanks for your help!
  15. I guess this is a good price for the dates. I started at $100 and saw the other post about someone getting the Holiday Inn Midtown for $120, and also believe the same hotel is on Hotwire for $129 for these dates. Went up to $109 with Times Square, ESB, and Midtown zones checked off. Added MSG and went to $111 and it gave it to me, no counteroffers or anything. Overall satisfied, I hope it's a good hotel.
  16. Follow up to the prior thread provided, HOTWIRE link clicked. Dates: 12/15-12/17 Thanks!
  17. Thanks for your help! I ended up getting the Copley Marriott for $109/night, which I posted in the Priceline thread.
  18. Hello - Hotwire has a 3.5* hotel with fitness, restaurant, and high-speed internet in the Chelsea-MSG hotel for $149. 85% of hotwire customer reviews recommend the hotel. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  19. The bedbugs registry notes that that Hilton has had bedbugs reported so check everything before you settle in!
  20. Sure - the amenities for both hotels are: No smoking Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Ctr High speed internet Spa
  21. Sure, apologies for confusion from the original post. The night of the stay is 10/8. Amenities: Fitness Ctr Business Ctr Pool High speed internet Restaurant Tennis nearby
  22. Just got the Marriott Copley place for $109 for 10/10. I know this is a nice property, centrally located, and about $200 off the price on Marriott's site! Thanks to this site for their help and links.
  23. Hello, Thank you in advance for your help. I am looking for Sunday, 10/10, for 1 night on HOTWIRE. It's showing a Back Bay/Copley hotel for $174, with a spa but no pool. It makes me think that it's the Lenox, but then under that it says "We are still gathering reviews for this property," when I've seen the Lenox before and there are definitely reviews. Any idea on this one? Also, there is a 4.5 star hotel for the same night on HOTWIRE - but in Quincy Market/Financial District, and for $186 - is this the Intercontinental? Thank you!
