  1. "Suite" deal on this property at Detroit Metro Airport. Hotwire appears to have the same night/hotel for $70, but decided to try my luck on PL to see if I could save $10 and I did. As always, all bids and searches too are made through the BB Board. Great resource, and the calendar of wins helped me focus on the best rate and to ensure that the hotels I was targeting were the mostly likely ones to be won. Thanks again to all who help support the BB web site! HOHO

  2. Romelle - I'm in Istanbul now, tried to send you a message on the BB site but it says you're not accepting messages, so hope this inquiry fits here. Found a great Turkish bath, thanks, but looking for a traditional shave that your son enjoyed so much. The hotel doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about so thought I'd check in with you to see if you had a recommendation, or how to ask for what I need. Great city, but a bit chilly so far (50's, which isn't horrible compared to the upper midwest). Thanks.

  3. Tough to say as it's difficult to know what's going on for particular dates that you are looking at. What's the best price you can find on the "retail" side compared to Hotwire? PL is always a good choice for bidding at the rate you want to get, and whether to bid earlier or later depends on inventory, but I always start early if my dates are confirmed. If your dates are fixed, PL is a good option to try at the rate you're targeting, and keep an eye on Hotwire as I have seen inventory change often day-to-day and week-to-week. Good luck!

  4. I travel often and have used National for car rentals over the years using a GM discount. Since the GM bankruptcy (and Enterprise buying National), I've had a harder time getting as great a rate on my personal rentals as I used to obtain. Case in point is our trip to Las Vegas January 1-5, 2012. National has no real discounts, no special weekend fares or other options to reduce the rate for a mid-size car from over $300, including taxes and fees. Hotwire and PL listed much lower rates for other car rental companies ($100 total), however, with my National Executive Elite status the time saved picking up the car and the possibility of getting larger car at the same rate is very attractive, even if there was a "moderate" premium to be paid. I consider an extra $200 to be exorbitant, not moderate. Hence, I booked with National through CarRentals.com (and, as always, all bids and searches are made through the BB links, in this case via BB's HOTWIRE link) for a total rental cost of $145.00, all in. Instead of trying to scam my way into a larger car with my Executive Elite card at the airport, I called National today stating that my assistant had forgot to add my Emerald Aisle number to a reservation made yesterday. It took 2 minutes, but the agent stated that National would "match" the rate and honor my Executive Elite status (and gave me a new reservation number). I'm not sure what matching meant since I already had a mid-size car reserved at National, but I was pleasantly surprised at the result and will consider going this way again for personal rentals. Has anyone else had such experience, or can suggest other avenues to lower the price and maintain your elite privileges when renting a car?

  5. We stayed at the Molina Stucky last July, and unless you're wedded to the privacy of a water taxi, it's a beautiful trip to take on the Alilaguna Airport - Venice blue line water taxi (see their web site at "http://www.venicelink.com/index.php?lang=english".) Roundtrip fare is only 24 euros per person. There is a free water taxi to the Hilton from the next to the last stop or from San Zaccaria (the stop before San Marco). While you will be traveling with other tourists (the boat launch is 400 meters from the terminal) it is a lot of fun, and for the price, can't be beat.

  6. I've been renting National for 30 years and they don't have any regional requirements for their unlimited mileage in areas I've rented. I have driven a weekend 3 day rental over 1,000 miles through 4 states and didn't even have a question when I checked in. California to Nevada and Arizona shouldn't be any problem with unlimited mileage, but Thereuare IS the expert so follow the advice from the Board before bidding PL. Not sure of other car rental company requirements.

  7. Not sure, but I know LAS rentals have higher taxes and fees than "some" airport locations. I've been trying PL for a 1/1/12 to 1/4/12 dates, no luck yet.

My National Emerald Aisle rates show the following "taxes and fees" would be applicable to your rental dates (at $172/week on National):

    Consolidated Facility Chg 3.75/day $52.50

Concession Recovery Fee 10 Pct $37.51

Clark County Tax 2 Pct $6.90

    Vehicle License Fee 2.15/day $30.10

    Sales Tax (8.10%) $27.95

    Nv Gov Surchg (10.0%) $43.50

Looks like the taxes and fees you are seeing are pretty much in the ballpark for the fees at Mccarran Int'l, eh? Just the per day charges alone for your rental period are $82.60, plus the percentage taxes on your lower rental rate (plus booking fee). Amazing.

  8. Started to book at $80/night until I reviewed other wins posted on the Board. Dropped my price to $60/night, and was "rewarded" with a win on my first attempt for this date and location. Lowest room charges on the Marriott web site was 169 Euros! Numerous searches and bids for this time frame made prior to this win, and all searches and bids on done on the BBBoard links!

    Offer Price:

avg. per room, per night US$60.00

    Rooms: 1

    Nights: 3

    Room Subtotal: US$180.00

    Taxes & Fees: US$31.38

    Total Charged to Card: US$211.38

P.S. My wife isn't necessarily happy that I took the cheaper route to Germany versus the Caribbean in February, but I need the miles (and got 1 free airline ticket).

  9. Under the tools tab above you can check on the Priceline or Hotwire list of hotel wins, if any. I did a bit of checking in March and didn't see the Hyatt reported for March 2012. Might want to check the 2011 list and see what pops up. The moderators will be able to help better with more information regarding when you want to go and your price targets. Use the PRICELINE link or HOTWIRE link above to make your searches. Good luck!
