  1. Stayed there last week (7/6-7/11). Nice place. Earns it's 2.5* rating easily. Close to the highway, but another hotel (Baymont) is directly between this hotel and the highway, so traffic noise is minimal. Country Inn & Suites offers the following amenities: Pool, hot Tub, Laser Printer (for business travellers), fitness "center", daily "Continental Plus" breakfast, meeting rooms, a mini-store where you can purchase snacks, etc..., free USA Today, a lending library of popular paperbacks. My room came with two Queen beds. Fairly standard furnishings. Decent-size (25"?) TV, with the typical lousy remote. The room was nice--well decorated in a country style (which isn't to my tastes, but whatever). Plenty of elbow room, even in the bathroom. The fitness center is a joke--a stationary bike, a treadmill, and a rowing machine in a tiny room. But they have discount cards that allow you to use a nearby health club (7 Flags) at a cheap price (~$5). The hallways and lobby are decorated nicely, except for the hallway carpeting. I can only say "What were they thinking" w/ regards to that. The rest of the place is nice and tasteful. The pool is decent, but only goes to 5' deep. The hot tub is large and excellent for soaking. All-in-all, perhaps the nicest place I've stayed at yet in West Des Moines. I plan on going back again if I can get it on P/L! Nautica3
  2. Started bidding for 2.5* in WDM at $30--rejected. Dropped rating to 2* and dropped price to $25. It took a while to process, but came back accepted by the Fairfield. Have seen this rate accepted by this property frequently, based on posts on TOBB. A guy at work says it's decent but no frills...the rooms are clean, pool is outdoors. I know it's close to the highway. Will ask for a room on the farther-away end of the building. Check-in: July 13th Check-out: July 18th Price: $25.00/night Taxes/Fees: $23.12 That's all. Nautica3
  3. Oh, I understand! Thanks for the sentiment, but you're just a bit premature. I leave town for the roadtrip home at about 2:30 this afternoon. So should be home around 9 pm. :)
  4. 'Welcome Home'?!? I don't get it. I'm from St. Louis, not Des Moines. Just started travelling for this contract assignment I got up here. Will be doing this weekly for a little while, so hopefully I can help fill out a bunch of info on the West Des Moines area while I'm up here, in addition to saving myself some money.
  5. 2 1/2 * Clarion Hotel West Des Moines (or Clive), IA Stayed June 16-20 and again June 22-27 $36/night Don't recall exact taxes and fees, but seemed standard/reasonable. Amenities listed: Airport Shuttle, fitness center, business center, pool, restaurant Hotel is a former Sheraton Four Points. Nice enough place. Pool is good, hot Tub is too shallow, but better than nothing. Has a nice restaurant, but didn't eat there. Business Center offers free High-Speed Internet, but only on 1 PC, so it's sometimes busy. Fitness room is a joke, as are most hotel facilities, but right next door is the Aspen Athletic Club, which the Clarion will give free passes too! That health club is huge, and has anything you could ever want in terms of fitness! Took advantage of it several times! The first week my room was on the second floor. Typical two full-sized bed setup. Don't think it was a non-smoking room, because there was a slight smoky smell to the bedspread and pillows. Blech! Loud AC/heat unit. The phone line connection didn't work from the desk, so I had to hook into the phone's line near the nightstand. Also, the second floor halls always seemed to smell like whatever was cooking in the restaurant's kitchen that day. My second week there was much better. Got a non-smoking room on the 5th floor w/ a single King bed, chair/ottoman, mini-fridge, and microwave! AC/heater was less noisy, too! And the 5th floor halls didn't smell. Overall, decent hotel, especially for this price. Avoid the 2nd floor, though.
  6. Country Inn & Suites (2 1/2 *) West Des Moines, IA July 6th - 11th $32/night * 5 = $160 Taxes & fees = $28.16 Total = $188.16 Haven't stayed there yet...will post review after I do.
  7. 2 1/2* Courtyard by Marriott, West Des Moines, IA (possibly also listed as Clive, IA) June 29th - July 3rd $30/night I forget the actual taxes & fees, but they seemed standard/reasonable. Got a single non-smoking room w/ King bed. Asked for and got a mini-fridge added to the room. Place is typical of a Courtyard hotel. Room had a sleeper loveseat and a work desk. Pool was rather small, but sufficient. hot tub was nice size and toasty! Close to the highway, but fairly well insulated. Noise wasn't really an issue. Clean, well-kept, but nothing exciting overall. Still, a great deal at the price I paid!
