  1. 2.5 Stars in being generous. The hotel has seen a better day and has been a number of hotels of the years. It is in a run down section of town next door to an abandoned shopping center. They have refurbed the interior over the past year. I have not stayed here since Feb but they had finsihed the 1st and 8th floor then. I would imagine the work has been finished by now. There is an indoor pool, bar, rest, etc. Nice people work there. I have probably spent 30 to 40 nights at the Radisson over the years. Usually the hotel is available for $43 to $48 but with the Spoletto Festival going you can usually double all prices in Charleston.
  2. We are staying here for holiday on June 30th thru July 3rd and after reading some old reviews, I am a little scared. Has anyone stayed here recently who can offer any information. Thanks BTW........... The winning bid was $100 back in January. The website showed L199 or $365US. It took 11 bids one night starting at $50 and working up to win the Copa. We booked 2 rooms @$100 a night for a total of $886.00 with tax.
  3. Charleston at Easter would be great next year with an April date. Temps should be in the mid 70s with lows in the 60s. Not too bad at all for the South. Anything can happen in April however and you could get anything from 40s to 80s. Today (June 1) it is 61 outside and more like Dublin than Miami. Downtown Charleston has more shopping than you can imagine. The old slave market has been converted to a bazaar shopping mart. Meeting St. is row after row of shopping, pubs, rest., and galleries. The beach at Wild Dunes or Folly is less than 30 minutes away. You can see the old South in downtown Charleston, tour the plantation at Middleton Place, see a WWII batttleship, tour Ft. Sumter where the "Recent Unpleasantries" started in 1861. Less than an hour away is Beaufort with more shopping and history....very similar to Southhampton or Plymouth in the UK. There is a shopping outlet on Interstate 95 less than 70 miles from Charleston. You are also about 75 miles from Myrtle Beach. The ride from Charlie Town to the Redneck Riveria goes through Sumter National Forest which was almost wiped out by Hugo in 1989. Interesting seeing all the changes Myrtle Beach is now known for its beach, golf (over 300 courses in 50 miles) and shopping. Broadway at the Beach is an outlet mall with a IMAX theatre, many theme rest. and over 300 shops. Barefoot Landing is less than 5 miles away and has 125 shops built around a lake. Both Charleston and Myrtle Beach are family friendly. You should be able to find 4 STAR hotels for less than $100US or L45 a night. Hope that helps.................... 4. Windjay...... When you check in ask for a room on the back side of the hotel over looking the water. They may say these are executive rooms but if you ask nicely then maybe you can be assigned one. Also ask for the 2nd floor if possible. The corner rooms are the largest but are not classified differently. Try to ask for one of these also. I have stayed here 20 or so nights over the years. Nice property but I little out of the way for downtown tourism. free parking, nice bar in the pool, decent rest., good staff. Have fun in the Holy City.
  5. Got the Cary Residence Inn at $48 Residence Inn Raleigh Cary Check-In Date: Thursday, April 14, 2005 Check-Out Date: Friday, April 15, 2005 2900 Regency Parkway Cary, North Carolina 27511 919-467-4080 Your Offer Price: $48.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $48.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $10.27 Total Charges: $58.27 Good property with a great staff. I flipped the Marriott card and she put me in a corner room which is usually larger. Typical Residence Inn. I guess the maid loved to clean the room since I never touched the kitchen area. They offered a free Mexican dinner in the lobby but I passed. I asked where the Margaritas were and the clerk laughted. (I was serious). Free real breakfast in the AM. The wait staff came up to me while I was waiting in line to check out and ask what I wanted. She started preparing it while I checked out. Great service. Only negative is even with the GPS map in my car I still had trouble finding the place. It is tucked away in a business park and kind of hard to access. All in all well worth $48. I asked the clerk what the goign rate was and she said the walk in price that night was $169 and there were only 6 rooms left.
  6. The Marriott in my hometown of Spartanburg is a new hotel and a great property. Unfortunately they are struggling with room bookings. The meeting space is staying booked with dances, weddings, recitals, meetings but the hotel room occupancy rate is less than 50% year to date. Priced at normal $109 is a little strong for the market even for a Marriott. Priceline rooms SHOULD always be available here for $40 or so. I booked 4 rooms here last month for out of town guest and got 2 for $40 and 2 for $30. Dates were 1/21 to 1/23. The hotel is first rate and the staff incredible. Best Eats within a mile are Abby's Ellis Brothers Beacon (world famous drive in) is 2 miles away.
  7. Last second client call so it is off to Atlanta on 1 hour notice. Wanted the Perimeter 4* - $50 - rejected Add Norcross/ Per 4* - $55 - rejected Add North Central 4* - $60 - rejected Added the Perimeter 3* and 4* - $50 rejected Added Norcross / Per 3* and 4* - $60 rejected Added North Central 3* and 4* - ACCEPTED AT $60 Hotel website was $179 Atlanta Marriott Century Center Check-In Date: Wednesday, February 23, 2005 Check-Out Date: Friday, February 25, 2005 Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $44.10 Total Charges: $284.10 Saved over $560 on this stay off the website price of $179 ($210 with taxes) .....not too bad.
  8. Booked on line this hotel would have been $277 a night or almost $1800 for our entire stay. We paid less than $750 so I am pretty happy. A little concerned about a few reviews of this property but for $120 a night in London I can not really complain.
  9. My bad...... This is for a stay 2/16/05 for one night. As I mentioned this rate is always available unless it is race week in Charlotte. If you get this property ask for a room in the new section. Dave
  10. This hotel is almost always available. One night for $40.....total bid was $48.33. The Hilton is a pretty good hotel. I usually get there early afternoon and flash the Hilton Honors card and most of the time I am placed on the Honors floor. I know the staff there and I guess they look out for me. You can just about ALWAYS get this hotel for less than $50 week day or week end.
  11. Started with 4* in Kensington for $80 and was rejected. Added Mayfair and pushed to $90 and still was rejected. Added Marble Arch and pushed to $100 Got the Copthorne for $100 which is in the Kensington area of town near the tube. Really wanted the Mill. Glouchester but this will do. Hotel web site was L125 which is around $220. Copthorne Tara Kensington 4-star Check-In Date: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 Check-Out Date: Saturday, July 2, 2005 Your Offer Price: $100.00 Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $600.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $120.18 Total Charges: $720.18
  12. I have tired to win a bid in Dublin for the past 6 weeks to no avail. We start each bid cycle and move like this Our dates are 6/19 - 6/23 Dublin North 5* - $80 Dublin North add 4* - $85 Dublin South add - $90 Dublin South of City added - $100 I started this pattern in December and have run it 6 times and lost. Last week on Feb 12th I started at $100 and moved up to $125 and still no room. A buddy of mine got the Westin last October for $90 on a bid but that was the off season. I finally gave up Friday and booked the Radisson on a special internet rate. The room was 119E which is around $153. The Radisson SAS is a 5* Hotel and since PL was failing at $125, I considered a 5* for $153 including all taxes not too bad. The PL room with taxes woud have been $140 or so. Good luck
  13. for 2/16 and 2/17 The hotel is being refurbed and REALLY needs it. The staff is great and after 30 or so nights there over the last few years, they know me pretty well. $43 is the first bid. I knew I could get it for either 43 or 53. Half the time I get it at 43 or use the rebid and get it at 53. Dave
  14. The Hyatt is a great Hotel in downtown Greenville. Less than a mile from the BiLo Center and very well run. Main St. in Greenville has been redone and is now on par with any downtown in the country. There are some amazing restaurants, bars, pubs and shopping in downtown. All of these are less than 3 blocks from the Hyatt. Check out Sobys Restaurant O Trios All are great places. The best I have done for this place is $30 on a Wednesday night. The other Hotel downtown is the Westin which is a little better and newer on the other end of Main Street. I usually get this one at $50 to $60.
  15. Wow.....what I can I say about the Na*** on TTOB. After numerous run-ins and such, I have had enough and went looking for another board to post. It seems to me that the only thing the bi***** ahhhh Sheryl wants is the click credit for booking your priceline stay. Last month I posted a winning bid on TOB. She went back through the list from her kick backs and when she noticed I had not placed my bid through her, she berated me on the board. I am pretty sure she lives in Texas but she knows more about South Carolina (my home state) than the freakin SC Chamber of Commerce. Of course she does know more about everything than any one person in the world. Earlier this week someone emailed me the link for this site and helped me figure out who TOB moderaotor's is/was. Back in the day I was pretty active on the newsgroup Rec.Travel.Air. There was a person named Sheryl on there who was the most arrogant b*** I have ever seen. For about 3 years she tried to run the place until she was pretty much kill filed by everone. Search Google for Sheryl and Rec Air Travel and see the entire story. It is pretty humerous. After running RTA into the ground, she started TOB and now has Na** powers over there. Oh well, the past is the past. Last year I did 121 nights on Priceline Hotels and have alreay booked an UK Vacation this summer via Priceline. I will also go back and add some winning bids to help build the database. I travel the Southeast USA on business and have a fairly good knowledge of SC, NC, GA, VA and AL hotels. I spend most of my time in the Carolinas so if you need any info here I will be glad to help if I can. Anyway thanks for the board guys.......
