  1. Ah, I see. So you feel that Saturday night (July 28) is the problem - more so than Friday night? I suppose I could bid on a Thur/Fri night stay, then if I won, go back out there and get Saturday night? Wife would not like it but I could do the hotel switch on Saturday whilst she shops. Something to think about. I guess my budget is "best price I can get" for a 4 star (ha ha). But I would like to get around $125, but $150's okay too. Really don't want to go much above $150.
  2. Hi there - I've used this board to research and access Priceline many times before. Need a room (wife and I MUCH prefer NMA rather than Millenium Park/Loop) for 3 nights, July 26, 27, 28 (Thur Fri & Sat nights). I looked at the calendar of bids, and seems that we would have won Crown Plaza Ave Downtown Chicago for around $115 - $120. I bid the following, 4-Star only: $100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 128 with no luck. Any helpful suggestions? Or should I just begin the process again tomorrow and start at $120??? (Do I have to wait 24 hrs or do you have a link that allows me to immediately re-bid?) Pointers are appreciated. thx! PS - we are visiting for a Cards/Cubs game....will that make the weekend difficult?
  3. Searched for FOUR star in Downtown San Diego. Began bidding at $70, increased in increments of $5. Won at $105. Pretty happy with the results - have never been to San Diego before. Also, from the looks of the Hotwire potential results, the price would have been $116 per night....either the Sheraton or the Westin downtown - couldn't tell for sure.
  4. Needed a hotel in La Jolla area, which is SAN DIEGO (COASTAL). Bid for a FOUR star hotel. Began at $70, bid in increments of $5. Won at $120 (more expensive than I anticipated).
  5. Hi I have used BetterBidding/Priceline several times now (great way to save $$) The info on this board is wonderful - it gives me an idea of the chances of winning, the most likely hotel, and a probable price range. I notice that it is always requested that members START thier Priceline (or Hotwire) bidding process by using the link provided at the upper right (or left for Hotwire) of the home page. When I click on your PRICELINE link and begin my bidding process, Priceline offers me the opportunity to "log in" using my Priceline username/account. If I do this, does this process then somehow redirect my business such that BetterBidding no longer receives credit for my transaction? Or should I log in so that I get "credit" for my winning bids? Thanks!
  6. Began bidding at $40, increased by $5 increments up to $75 I wanted the Westin (a 4-Star hotel) and got it. It is probably the ONLY 4-Star in the area. I'm sure that dropping to a 3.5 Star would have saved some $$$. Lots of geographical areas in Chicago Suburbs!!! WOW you could bid all day....
  7. Started bidding for 3.5* in Lake Mary at $45, $50, won at $55. Yesterday, I bid LAKE MARY, FL for a 4* (thinking Westin???) but no success up to $62. Rather than up my price, today I just bid for the 3.5* and predictibly (thanks to THIS board!) got the Marriott for $55. THIS BOARD IS GREAT!!! MAKES THE BIDDING PROCESS VERY PREDICTIBLE (to a degree, of course)
  8. Tried for a 4-Star a couple days ago (Downtown Milw ONLY) and bid up to $65 with no success. Today bid for a 3.5-Star, bid $40, then won at $45. Been to this hotel before, and very pleased with the price. Nice hotel, Starbucks (a REAL starbucks store) on first level. Yeah!
  9. Awesome- when in NYC it is almost mandatory to get a bagel (and slice of pizza) Looking forward to visiting Ess-A-Bagel - thanks!
  10. Saw a previous post for the EXACT days that we will be in New York, bid $160, then raised to $170 and bingo. Perhaps we'll see you in the lobby! Thanks to all who post on this forum - this is the perfect example of the benefits of shared knowledge!
  11. Just one night Price per room on Marriott website is $169 Price per room on Expedia, etc. is $119 A friend of mine bid and got same hotel at $50, but I bid $60 as there are no rebid zones in Bloomington! Only $10 extra so no biggie - had to get room ASAP for a funeral :-(
  12. Ran the gamut with a 4* rating, searching for DuPont Circle-Woodley Park and White House-Downtown areas (did NOT search Convention Center-Capitol Hill). NO LUCK with prices from $80 - $160. Repeated search using a 3.5* area and finally (using increments of $20) got the Marriott at $160. I am pleased, as it has a Metro stop on the hotel grounds (or at least a stone's throw away). Happy with my price, especially since this is the peak for Cherry Bloosoms PS - the Metro system in DC is fantastic, so having a Metro station nearby connects you with anyhwere (except Georgetown) that you want to go FYI the only airport served directly by the Metro is Reagan Int'l
  13. Opening bid $65 not accepted, next bid of $70 accepted
  14. Hi twbelshaw I'm always glad to help a fellow Cards fan (unless you're a transplanted Cubs fan....but that's okay too) Have you committed to a room yet? The reason I ask is that my wife and I visit Chicago several times per year and always stay on the Mag Mile (NMA - River North area on Priceline). Booking via Priceline, we almost always pay less than $100 per night. I just booked a room for a friend's wedding for 8/20 - 8/22 for $94 per night. This would be significant savings over your stated rate of $184 in your previous post. I only consider 4* hotels, and have usually won the Sheraton Chicago Hotel Tower or the Intercontinental. Either way, all of these 4* hotels are about the same (very nice) and clustered near the same location. So if you are semi-flexible, Priceline could be good. I have also, in the past, stayed in the Loop/Millenium Park because of the cheaper prices - I'm talking $50-$70 per night. But this time I wanted the NMA area. (I will say that if you choose this area, you may end up in the Palmer House, which I did not like as it was sort of old and needed a renovation - it's well past its glory days.) However, if you're lucky, you could get a hotel on Michigan Ave on the south bank of the river. Again, with Priceline, you have to be flexible! However, if you need to choose a specific hotel, you may want to stick with Hotwire. Good luck!
  15. Started bids for 4* only in this area Bids of $75, $79, $84, $89 were refused $94 won room for Fri and Sat night stay at Sheraton Tower
  16. Won the Sheraton Chicago Hotel tower for $85 per night. Started multiple bidding yesterday from $46 to $72 with no luck. Rebid today from $65, increasing by $5, and won at $85. I was tempted to simply get the $79 room offered on HOTWIRE, but didn't like their map boundaries (and not sure how that works....it would seem to me that you would simply bid on Priceline up to the Hotwire amount, then move over to Hotwire and book your room.....) This is my first time using this service, and using PRICELINE as well. So far so good. I initiated my link to PRICELINE via this site as requested.
