  1. Hotwire lists a couple cheap alternatives. I know they aren't glamorous, but I just need a room at this point. Any idea which hotels these are? These are both in the Museum Campus - McCormick Place - Soldier Field area hotel area 2*, $103 (Best Value), Restaurant, Business Center and Hi-Speed Internet (65% recommend) (My guess is Best Western) 2.5*, $123 (Best Value), Gym, Restaurant, Laundry, Hi-Speed (35% recommended) (My guess is Travelodge) What do you think? I can't spend much more time working on this. Thanks in advance.
  2. I don't know. This is getting too confusing. There used to be a page that helped explain the bidding strategies. Can someone help me find it? I really need to get moving on this, as my trip is just a little more than a week away. Thanks.
  3. Good questions. Not an easy answer... Last year I stayed at the Best Western Grant Park. It's nothing flashy, but it is cheap (I think around $90/night booked direct). Now it's $200/night. I think it's listed as 2*, but I would consider it by location if it were cheap enough (i.e. $75-90ish). Price is a factor. I won't be in the room much, but I'd prefer not a total dump. Somewhere where I can easily get something to eat nearby would be good, too. The show I'm attending has shuttles from some major hotels, so being at or near one of those would be nice. Hotel link: (https://onpeak.compassreservations.com/compass/external/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_hotelsearch_results&CFID=225971&CFTOKEN=702332&PID=P96193838664F558E-C) The areas that would be best are the Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area, and North Michigan Ave - River North Area. Greater Chicago might work too. Ideally, I'd spend around $100 per night, but I know that may not be feasible. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
  4. Thanks. I think my max would be about $150 per night, all-in. I haven't tried PRICELINE yet. I haven't used it in many years, and don't remember the best way to do it. I was reviewing the PL bidding strategies on your board and the areas that I'm looking at possess all star levels. How would I factor that into my bidding? Also, where is a good starting bid point? Given the NRA show, and the reduced inventory, I know it won't be easy. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for your help. The reviews of the Essex on Trip Advisor were a bit Jekyll and Hyde for my taste. Not sure what to do next...
  6. Hi there, I need some help identifying a 3-star hotel in Museum Campus - McCormick Place- Soldier Field area on Hotwire for 5/23-25. Amenities are Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi-Speed and Tennis Nearby(?). Current price is $128. I've been searching for awhile and can't find anything less expensive that seems halfway decent. I know about the NRA show, but I'll be there on the tail end, so hopefully it won't totally inflate things. I'm going to be at McCormick Place, so somewhere in that region would be ok. Grant Park would be great. Not sure what other areas are easily accessible (I don't want a long commute). Thanks!
  7. unfortunately, the rates never went back down, so I ended up not booking through any of these means. Thank you all for your assistance.
  8. it appears they bumped it from $58 to $130...which seems crazy to me.
  9. just logged on (thru your link :)) to book it and got all the way to the final stage and hit purchase and it said that "this itinerary is no longer available, please try again." That's BS, since I had it and it was clearly there. Any suggestions?
  10. I wasnt succesful with priceline and am thinking about moving to another area, like OC. I looked on Hotwire and found what appears to be a great deal, but it doesnt match anything on the list perfectly. 7/15-16 $58, 4* Customer Favorite Best Value Shuttle Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center Hi Speed Internet Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby sounds like the Irvine Hyatt. What do you think?
  11. Both price and quality are important. I hate staying in rat traps, which is what Ive gotten when going below 3* in the past. The areas Id choose would be: Del Mar, Downtown SD & Harbor Island, Mission Valley, North County Coastal, San Diego Coastal. Id prefer to be under $100 out the door if possible. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
  12. Im going to San Diego for 1 night on 7/15. Looking at Hotwire the rooms are all over $200, so I thought I'd try priceline. Please help me come up with a strategy. Id stay in Gaslamp, Mission Valley/Hotel Circle, as those are normally among the more moderate priced places in the area. Id prefer 3* or 4*. Thanks!
  13. I am ready to commit. Shopping plane tix right now. Was I correct on my guesses on the two I identified? Thanks!
  14. Looking back over the list, it looks like a couple of these do match up. I am curious what the $87 hotel is, as I cant find anything that lists High Speed or Golf in the area. 4* Downtown $87 Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet, Golf Nearby 3.5* Downtown $97 Fitness Center, Restaurant, High Speed Internet (Whitney Wyndham???) 4* French Quarter $133 Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center (Hotel Monteleone???) Also, do you think the rates will go down, as this is still 3 months out? Thank you for your help.
  15. Hi there, Im looking to travel to New Orleans on October 5-8 and want to stay in the French Quarter, but Downtown might be acceptable, too. I've found some great prices on Hotwire for those dates, but none of the amenities seem to match the list you've posted, nor the other posts Ive read. Can you please help? We'd really like Hotel Monteleone or Le Pavilion, if possible, and it seems like those do come up from time to time. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
  16. It is a 3* in Mission Valley/Hotel Circle Customer Favorite and Best Value Amenities are: Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. High-speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Laundry Facilities <amenity names only please... not descriptions>
  17. Since I wasnt getting anywhere on priceline, I went to Hotwire and got the 3* Holiday Inn Select at Hotel Circle for $42 a night. Great deal, as the regular rate on their website is about $129/night and I paid $144.44 total for 3 nights. As an added bonus, because I spent over a certain amount of money I got 3 free magazine subscriptions for a year. Thanks to bbbb for his help on this matter.
  18. bbbb was VERY helpful to me yesterday. unfortunately, I've bid about 15 times with this strategy and have yet to win a bid. Ive gone up to $95 and still have been shut out. Please help! Im running out of time.
  19. Im looking for a 3 or 4 star. Every area has 3 stars, so how can I protect myself? Priceline makes me nervous, so I want to make sure I do it correctly.
