  1. The Mellenium Knickerbocker is an old grand hotel that has just been remodeled. The rooms feature King Sized beds and are very nicely decorated. There is a 42 " flat panel TV, desk, full wall curtain and the bathrroms are done in tile and marble. They feature a rain shower (big enough for two) but no bathtub. The staff is friendly accomodating and friendly. The location is right in the heart of the Magnificent mile river north area. Steet parking is practicvally non existent so plan on paying $35 per night if you have a car. There is great upscale shopping and a wide choice of dining in this area from coffee shop to white table cloth restaurants. Its a very safe area to stay in. We would agree with Price.lines 4 star rating as its a very nice hotel to saty at. You probably won't get the low rate that we received when we won it in February but its still nice lodging at even $150 per evening.
  2. I do not believe that less than $75 for a four star hotel in downtown Chicoago during those June dates is achievebale but give it a try. Look on the calenderofwins and see what people are winning for their bids. My guess is that even lowball bids are getting people in the $80-$120 per night range for a 4* hotel. I'll guess that $80 on PRICELINE might get you something. If no success try a 3.5* as most of those are pretty decent.
  3. I don't believe that you will get a 4* hotel in that area during summer for $65.00 per night but you can try. You might get a 3 or 3 1/2* hotel for that. We got a 4* hotel from priceline in the Magnificent mile area for $100 night for mid June and I don't know how much lower you'll be able to go. . Bear in mind that the summer rates for 4* hotels in downtown Chicago can run $250-$300 per night! Its peak season and rates are also at their peak. PRICELINE usually offers the better buys as they accept varying bids depending on their occupancy. Hit em when occupancy is heavy and the price is high. Hit em in Winter when occupancy is low and the prices are low. Its hit and miss. Good luck using the links on the home page and you can bid as many times as you wish on any day.
  4. This could also be the Mellennium Knockerbocker Hotel in the Magnificent Mile area. The only exception is that they don't have an in-house spa but its located down the block and they direct guests to it. It could be that the icon just indicates spa availablity, as they charge extra for all in-house sevices anyway ( offering valet parking at $50 day and internet for $9.95/day) but everything else checks out. Good luck with the chocie but most 4* hotels should meet your expactations.
  5. We have been using the above HOTWIRE links to book. As for the price it was $67.00 per night and I see no way that this forum allows one to edit any post after 24 hours have past.
  6. Here is one booked through HOTWIRE that I do not believe that I previously reported Its listed as a 3 star hotel with Suites, Fitness Center, Complimentary breakfast, & Internet Connectivity. It is the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndam. Suites have a queen bed (w pillow top matress) desk, sofa, kitchenette (w refrig, sink, and microwave) and an ample sized bath. Property is well maintained and the breakfast features three hot items that vary by day...Bacon, Sausage, Waffles, Potatoes, Eggs, + fruit, and all the things at a typical continental breakfast has (cereal, oatmean, bagles, bread, juice, coffee etc) They also give you a free buffet dinner on Wednesday night. The property is well maintained and the staff is friendly and courteous and it would be a good place to stay had it not been for only one BIG negative.. Be advised that if you stay here, this will be one of the noisiest hotels that you will ever stay at . It is situated between two highways ( right in the middle) and the noise of the thosands of cars and trucks passing both sides on busy Rt 30 won't help you sleep well. They badly need noise barriers at this hotel. If only for the noise, we will not stay at this hotel again.
  7. OK lets put it in the format that you requested: The Raddison Hotel Camp Hill, PA ( near Harrisburg and Carlisle) offers the following amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Exercise room, smoke free rooms, and internet connectivity. There is also an airport shuttle that stops there.
  8. As requested the Raddison Hotel Camp Hill, PA ( near Harrisburg and Carlisle) offers the following amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Exercise room, smoke free rooms, adjustable matresses and internet connectivity. For some strange reason it is listed as 3* and 3.5* depending on the time you go to HOTWIRE. There is also an airport shuttle that stops there. As I wish to support the board, the reservation was made through the HOTWIRE link above. It is the third one that I made this year. Hope this helps. BTW, During spring, summer, fall car show season 1000's of room around Carlisle PA show up so perhaps other will find this link.
  9. Every year I attend the giant GM's at Carlisle Car show event that is held on the last Saturday in June each year. Rooms in that area tend to be very expensive for what you get. Even lower end 1* hotels like the Carlisle Sleep Inn charge $169 or more per night. Even so they still book solid. Thats unacceptable to me. I went to PRICELINE bid $90 and no luck. Opened the search up to Mechanicsburg, 15 mile SE and stil no luck. Tried the HOTWIRE link above and bingo $69 got a beautiful room at the 3.5* Raddison Hotel in Camp Hill PA. Its about a 25 minute drive E from Carlisle but its a full service upscale hotel and the price was right' For those going to the GMs at Carlisle Car Show this is a very good place to stay.
  10. June is a busy month and hotels tend to get significantly higher prices for their rooms. If you go to Priceline and ask for a 4* hotel and bid in the $85-$100 area chances are that you'll come up with the Mellenium Knickerbocker Hotel. For 3.5* the Westin or Embassy Suites might come up. Whatever you do reserve now as rates for the better hotels can approach $275 per night in the summer months.
  11. Just though that I pass this info on although it was booked before I joined this forum. Every April and Oct myself and my wife attend a large model train show in York PA. At this time of the year rooms tend to get expensive as there is also a huge car show going on in Carlisle PA. Thought that I'd try my luck at a hotel described in Hotwire as a 3* an all suites hotel with excercise room, internet and free hot breakfast. It was $69.00 so I thought that we'd give it a shot. We ended up with hotel called the Hawthorn Suites which is a Wyndam chain hotel. Hotel got decent reviews and was about $35 less than the Mainstay Suites that we usually stay at (and was sold out). Just thought that I'd pass this info on. Since we joined it will my policy to support the forum by booking via the above PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links.
  12. It seems that the Mellenium Knickerbocker has been a hotel that several forum members have won via Priceline Bids of late . The range we have been seeing is $80 to $105 per night. They have something like 305 rooms there so I guess that they are loading up for the summer season early. The prices that they have been accepting lately are probably reflective of the deepening recession that we are in. They take the money now in the slow season and hedge the bet for summer when the average downtown Chicago hotel rate for a 4 Star hotel climbs to the $250-$295 per night range.
  13. We are staying 6/10 -6/14/10 and we just bid $100 and our priceline bid was also accepted by the Mellenium Knickerbocker. You bested our deal in the busy summer season. . Congrats!!! The Knickerbocker hotel is probably more like a 3- 3 1/2 star hotel than a four star and PRICELINE bidders get the smaller rooms but it has gotten very good reviews and is a decent place to stay. However, watch out with the Valet parking as they charge $50 per day. Street parking is tough but after 9PM and before 8 AM the limited street parking is free If you walk three blocks West it is possible to find street parking but around the hotel it is very tough in that area. Even the cheapest lots charge $25-40 for one overnight and there is no re-entry,
  14. The way we view it, in peak summer season the rates tend to go up significantly so $100 a night for a four star listed hotel in Chicago seems like a great deal. That was our budget and it seems right. Rooms in summer per their website go for an average of $275.00 per nite which is on the high side. The Kickerbocker is one of the old Grand Luxury Hotels built in 1927. Trip advisor reports indicate that the rooms are modern and well kept although a bit small. The $50 per evening parking rate is quite high but we know that area and three blocks away there is plenty of free parking on the street when the meters no longer require you to feed them AFTER 6 PM (or is it 8PM) and Before 9AM. We will be gone most of the day so the $50 in/out priviledge is not necessary. The hotel also charges $9.95 per day for internet access but we have a connect card and a Blackberry with internet access. Staying in old modernized classic hotels is fine with us. Six years ago we stayed at a small botique hotel called the Whitehall three blocks away ( booked via Hotwire) and it was absolutely excellent. It looks like the Whitehall is not dropping their summer rates at this time though.
  15. Thought that I'd share todays experience with all of you thrify travelers out there. For our Chicago trip 6/10-6/14 ; on a whim I decided to bid a flat $100 per day for a room in the North Michigan Ave Gold Coast/Magnificent Mile area of Chicago specifying a four star hotel. It took 15 minutes for confirmation but our bid was accepted by the Millenium Knickerbocker Hotel . On their website it looks like a very nice remodeled luxury grand hotel from the 1930's and all the rooms have king beds. We know the area and the location is good. The standard rates in June average about $275.00 so $100 per night appeared to be a good deal. Our only reservation is that like other Chicago area hotels they charge $40.00 for valet parking that we hope is not mandatory. BTW we used the PRICELINE link above. Hope this info helps
  16. My wife and myself will be lodging in Chicago June 10th through June 14th and have found a 4 star hotel listed on Hotwire for $119 per night. It shows fitness, restaurant, business center & high speed internet in the description and also offers an upgrade via a choice of bed selection. We are considering booking this hotel but does anyone know what it might be? The examples show Omni, Hyatt & Inter-Continental but the choice of bed has got to be the give-a-way.
