  1. Hotwire was offering what looks to be a pretty good deal for this 4* hotel in the French Quarter. I was not having much luck with these dates via Priceline, so this will have to do. Good location .. happy about that.

I did use the HOTWIRE link from this site to book my rooms.

    Smoke Free Rooms

    Fitness Center

    Pool(s)

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    High-Speed Internet Access

    Accessible for the blind

    Accessible for the deaf

    Accessible path of travel

    In-room accessibility

    Accessible bathroom

    Roll-in shower

  2. I also had a question about rates for the the dates 4/20 - 4/23. This is the week prior to Jazz Fest I believe .. not sure why the rates seem elevated. I haven't formally bid yet on Priceline, but noticed that the best deal on Hotwire was for a 4* in French Quarter/Canal St. area for $118 per night. On Priceline it is listing the median retail price between $199-$259 for a 3-4 star hotel. Do you anticipate there will be better deals if I wait it out a while, or should I consider jumping on that $118 price at Hotwire? I see a lot of messages on here about people getting rooms in the $60-$70 range via Priceline, and was hoping I might be able to get similar pricing for my dates.

    Thanks !

  4. I just stayed there last week ... there is a self park garage directly across the street. It's $23 for 24 hours. We were able to get in and out of there with no trouble.

I'm not a big fan of this hotel, but its well worth the price you got it for. It just doesn't seem up to level of other four star hotels that I have stayed at in Chicago. The rooms are very small (pretty typical for Chicago actually), but the location is really good. I think you'll be relatively happy with your win

  5. I just won this hotel for Friday night (2 Rooms). This hotel seems to be the scourge of the 4* NMA hotels, but hey .. price was fairly cheap on late notice and the location is really good. I think we can handle it for one night ;)

Thanks to Better Bidding for all the tips ... I used the tips I've found here to get a couple extra bids by adding areas that don't have 4* hotels .. always works like a jewel. I started at 55 .. turned down, but got the offer to add $19 to win the room. We all know that when you get that message you can snag it in between somewhere. Went back and countered with $60 .. turned down. Went up to $65 .. won the rooms.

    Thanks again,

    Family Ghost

PS I used the PRICELINE link from the Better Bidding site

  6. I just scored a one nighter at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center in the downtown area ... $45 via priceline. It was my first bid, so I probably could have got it a bit cheaper. Still .. that's a cheap deal for a 3.5 star.

Thanks for all the great tips .. Better Bidding. As always the site is much appreciated !

Hey fellas .. any must visit pubs or restaurants in that area? We're coming in for the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel show that evening, but will have a few hours to kill in the afternoon, and perhaps after the show.

  7. I've never had a problem getting a room with a double bed if I requested one, but it looks like I might have an issue with my upcoming priceline stay at Ambassador East in early July.

I called them direct to see how my reservation was set up .. seems it's kind of a first come first serve request type deal at that hotel with PRICELINE customers taking a backseat to the full price crowd. The fella on the phone told me since my reservation is on a weekend I might get stuck with one bed.

I asked if I could go ahead and request a double bed with him, but he said it's determined upon arrival for folks who booked with PRICELINE. We'll see, I guess. That's the first I've ever really experienced being treated differently than any other customer. In other stays I've had thru PRICELINE it's never been an issue.

  8. Prices are up a bit around these dates but was able to get a decent older hotel at a decent rate ... Ambassador East.

I tried initially to get a 4* hotel, but had about 5 unsuccessful tries .. started at $80 ... topped out at $105. I then decided to just lower to a 3 1/2*, and was able to snag Ambassador East at $90 after trying $85 with my initial bid. All in all I don't think $90 is a terrible rate given that my dates are right around the 4th of July.

I did use the PRICELINE link .... thanks for the great site, and fantastic tips !!

  9. The prices are steep there for some reason ... probably something to do with Baseball Spring Training. I recently had to pay $42 thru Priceline for a Standard car. I'd say you are getting close for an economy .. probably within $5 or so. My dates are for 3/8 - 3/12.

I was hoping to get a much better deal than I did, but I started low with my bids and finally had to settle at the price I listed above ... oh well.

    Good Luck !!

  10. It was like pulling teeth this time, or at least it seemed that way. Just looking at the board I figured I could land a Standard car for around $20-$25 per day or so. There wasn't a lot of available info on PHX rentals, so I guess I had a false sense of what to expect.

I am going to be out there when all the Cactus League action fires up, so perhaps this is the main reason why things seem a bit steep in price to me for a rental.

I ended up starting low, and slowly working my way up .. it took three days before they finally decided one of my offers was acceptable.

My final rejection was at $35 + $5 bonus cash from Priceline that I had received from prior purchases. I then waited the 24 hours to bid again .. because I didn't want to settle for a Mid-Size.

In the end I payed $37 per day + a $5 bonus cash. I wasn't sure if I should put $42 or $37 in the topic description .. If I did wrong please change it for me, Mods.

    Total Charges: $209.30

I'm not sure if I got all that good of deal or not.

  11. I ended up going with Hotwire for my booking and got the Holiday Inn & Suites on Country Club in West Mesa. The price was $58 per night. It broke down as follows:

Hotel rate per night - Hotwire hot Rate:$58.00

    Nights:4

    Rooms:1

    Subtotal:$232.00

    Tax recovery charges and fees:$34.08

    Total price:$266.08

    Fitness Center

    Pool

    Restaurant

    Buisness Center

    Laundry

    High Speed Internet

That's $266.08 for a four night stay (3/8 - 3/12) or a total average of $66.52 per nght. That seems like a pretty good rate for what seems to be a fairly nice hotel.

Thanks for your help, thereuare !!

  12. I just got finished scoring a 4* at InterContinental in the NMA - River North area for $80. It's for 11/14/09. I figured with the late notice I might have to pay a bit more, but $80 wound up being the same price I got a room for at the Knickerbocker in July. It seems that $80 range will get you a nice 4* room right around that Michigan Ave. area.

Here's how my bidding process went:

Started at $65 with only River North area & 4* selected .. was turned down

Rebid at $75 with River North, Skokie/Niles area, and 4* selected .. was turned down

Rebid at $80 with River North, Skokie/Niles, and Midway & 4* selected .... was accepted at the the InterContinental !!!!

As a lot of you know there currently are no 4* hotels in the Skokie/Niles area, or the Midway airport area, so you can't get stuck with a room in those areas as long as you specify that you want a 4* room.

    Success !!!!
