  1. Did multiple rebids using Ottawa downtown and Gloucester areas. Got this via a 3* bid using Gloucester areas with additional $23 is taxes and fees. $5 bonus cash added to my bid. Free parking and internet, but no breakfast (many restaraunts nearby).
  2. Did multiple rebids using Hull, Ottawa West and Gloucester areas beginning at $46 and working my way up. Got this via a 2* bid using Hull and Gloucester areas with additional $14 is taxes and fees. Free parking and internet, but no breakfast (many restaraunts nearby)
  3. Thanks and see ya there :) Just worked my way up a dollar at a time from $40 and ended up with ..... Quality Hotel this Saturday for $47 And yes, Extended Stay Deluxe was great (location, size of rooms, etc). Jer
  4. Hi: I'm at the Copa right now ... and its great! Big room, easy beach access (90 degree ocean water ; 95 degree air). Bonus - evening happy hour-and-a-half - two free drinks plus snacks every day! Great location and price. Jer
  5. Tried $40 for 4* and 3* - dropped to 2* at $38 and got it. Good price and for a mini-suite. Not many amenities though. OK for us (just passing through). Jer
  6. Hmmm .... thought I might get the Holiday Inn Express (based on amenities - beachfront, complimentary breakfast, pool(s), fitness, business center, laundry and highspeed internet), but got the La Copa Beach Resort. Taxes and fees added about $38 to the 5 night stay. Overall, it looks good - great reviews for the most part and a complimentary Happy Hour (beer/wine/cheese/snacks) every night. Hope it lives up to its reputation! Jerry PS Tried Priceline, but they didn't accept a bid up to $46 a night for a 3-star.
  7. Stayed here in summer of 2006 - near Jane/Finch intersection (notorious for gang violence in summer of 2005), but felt very safe (police station was one building away). Absolutely no issues. Location is via the Finch exit off of Highway 400 (first exit north of the 401) - easy to find, and located next to Travelodge and Holiday Inn Express. Staff very friendly, with easy/fast check-in and out. Free parking, wireless internet, daily papers (choice of 2) and nice breakfast (usual cereals/bread/waffles/ juices plus hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit). Fairly close to the highway, but quite quiet. No pool at the motel, but the adjacent Travelodge allows Comfort Inn guests to use their facilities. Perkins Family restaurant next door (10% discount) with many fast fooderies and a mall within easy walking distance. Overall very pleased for a 2* location. Jer PS Title should be Vaughn .... sorry ... can't seem to change it ...
  8. Hmmmm ..... never got a detailed bill before .... on checkout I got a printout from the hotel - the bill was paid by a MasterCard from Norwalk Connecticut (I guess that's where Priceline is based). The price paid (in Canadian dollars) was $39.00 per night plus provincial/federal taxes of $4.29 and a local lodging tax of $1.17 per night. After conversion that works out to $US 39.43 per night ( vs the $US 47.30 charged by PL based on the 2 night stay). Jer
  9. Tried 2.5* in Markham for $31 - no luck. Added Vaughn - North York, 2* and bumped bid to $38 (poor strategy but I'm in a hurry - trip starts in two days) and got the Comfort Inn in North York - great location for me (I'm approaching from the North) and it has complementary breakfast and wireless internet. $18.59 in fees means two night stay totals $US 94.59 - hotel rate is $130 per night before taxes!
  10. Quality Inn on Rideau - close to Byward Market, Rideau Centre, canal, etc. $36 plus $12.85 First time staying there- location looks excellent! Jer
  11. Yup - price was the most important and the Pickering Comfort Inn is on Kingston Road as you surmised.
  12. Bid $28 for a 1* (hoping for a bump based on past reports). Got a free re-bid if I added $9. Added Markham zone and bid $32 for the 1* again - accepted and bumped to the 2* Comfort Inn (where I was hoping to end up!). Thanks all ....
  13. Review provided - and our stay was just fine. But as a bonus, having read this PRICELINE WIN, I e-mailed Priceline and got a full refund for the stay based on their star rating for the property dropping from a 3 to a 2 between the time I booked and the time we stayed there. Thanks again to MJRBIM for all the help! Hoping your worst stay in 2006 is better than your best of 2005, Jer
  14. Close to the Transcanada Highway (417) in Kanata, about 25 west of "downtown Ottawa, but in a well-established area (restaurants, shopping, etc). About 2 km to the Ottawa Senators arena. Easy/fast check-in with free parking and wireless highspeed. Continental breakfast in a nice large room included as well as a morning paper. Two story hotel with no elevator (although lower floor seems easily accessible). Stayed there many times - quite pleased.
  15. Booked room on the morning of the arrival at the hotel - rejected at $30, but offered a free re-bid at $38. Added Downtown Ottawa zone and increased bid to $32 - accepted. Easy/fast check-in, free parking, free high-speed wireless, nice continental breakfast. Price has been creeping up a bit over the last year, but still a great deal!
  16. Overall, we were pretty pleased with this hotel - very large suite with full size fridge/stove/microwave plus toaster, coffermaker, plates, utensils, etc, etc, etc. Downsides? As mentioned earlier, the high price for overnight parking. Also we were a little disappointed to have only one TV (in the living room) - a second one in the bedroom would not have been unusual, right? But, for $37 plus fees, what a deal!
  17. First bid at $37 (plus $10.54 in fees) accepted for Dec 26th - low season, but looking forward to seeing what this property is like - sounds good. Thanks to MJRBIM (Ottawa) and ThereUAre (EVERYWHERE!) for all the great info - best wishes to all for the holiday season and the year ahead. Jer
  18. I'm in the room and the hotel is OK, but was hit for a $3 "destination marketing fee" at check-in. I've stayed in Ottawa quite a few times, but never got hit with that before .... an isolated occurance?
  19. I had bid $25 on all zones three days earlier, and got a re-bid offer for $31 that I didn't use. Waited the three days and the was successful at $28 - and yes, its the Comfort Inn on Michael Street.
  20. I usually stay at the Kanata (Ottawa -West) Comfort Inn for $28, but thought I'd widen my search to include all four areas of Ottawa. Glad I looked closely at my win - it was at the Comfort Inn all right, and at $28, but it was at the Ottawa-East location (next to St Laurent mall about 10 miles away from the Kanata location). No free continental breakfast, but overall a little better location for us. Wonder if the Stones will be staying there too (they play in Ottawa on the 28th) :)
  21. Bid $55 for a 2.5*and got offered a free rebid at $74 - decided instead to rebid at $68 for a 2* and got the 2.5* on an upgrade. Quite pricy for the location, but there isn't a lot of choice there ..... Jer
  22. Bid $38 on Syracuse North and was rejected. Added Zones and bid $40 and was accepted - two nights at $40 per night plus $18.73 in service fees. $99 plus tax via the Doubletree website ....
  23. Bid $25 for a 1* and was rejected. Rebid $28 and got "upgraded" to the 2* Comfort Inn (I'm still wondering what brand the 1* hotel is). Comfort Inn includes free high-speed, breakfast and passes to the Kanata Wave Pool - what a deal!
  24. Whew. After several weeks of bidding $42 for a 3* in Halifax and then expanding to include Bedford and upping the bid to $50, I finally got the Westin for $42 plus $11.48 in fees on my first bid this morning.
