  1. What do you guys think is the cheapest (2 star i guess) accommodation i can get in Boston? I'm just spending one night, but probably would like something central, to sight see during the day, (next day i leave to new york) I realize most people look for a nicer hotel, so i don't see any wins for cheaper hotels in the calendar, in this case, im just passing by, so i dont care much about that.. thanks for any tips! Fabian
  2. i took the hotel in Brooklyn hotel deal from Travelzoo. I noticed that many people here got that hotel for below 100 in other dates, so did tried Priceline, but didnt get anything cheaper. So i went with the 109 price from the hotel (which is also prepaid and non refundable, but its a good deal!)
  3. found a good deal Sheraton in downtown Brooklyn for 108 , (travelzoo deal) i think im going to go with this one, but i will check first how long does it take to get to NYC.
  4. maybe i should add more details i tried 4 stars in Jersey City up until 120 (used up all the regions) then i tried 3 stars in jersey city from 100 only (since there are many 3 stars i couldnt try again, i only want to select the 1st region, next to NYC) for NYC i used all regios in 3.5 up until 125, then i did the same for 3 stars, up until 125. only area i avoided was outside of manhattan
  5. My highest bid was 120, 3 stars in Jersey city, no taxes included for NYC i think the highest was 116 , i'll need to try again, (i cant remember if it was 3.5 or 3, i think it was 3)
  6. In the past i was able to get a 4 star hotel in Jersey city for below 100 dollars, but it seems that this is now impossible... My goal is to visit New York City around these dates, (can be a bit before or after), and get hotel around 120 dollars per day, based on this budget restriction, what do you think is the best i can get within Manhattan + Jerse City (Meadowlands)? or do i have to go to Queens/Brooklyn? is there any hotels outside of manhatan that are within a reasonable distance? Last year i got Westin in Jersey city which worked great for me. Thanks for your advise
  7. I was unsuccessful bidding on a 4 or 3.5 stars hotel up to 70 dollars in the Toronto downtown (north or south) i ran out of dummy zones, so later i tried again aiming to get a 3stars, this time successful Hotel: Courtyard Toronto Downtown 3* date: 21st of may. 1 night price: 65 dollars started bididng at 60 but was unsuccesful, i bid the second time for 65 i used PRICELINE link of course! cheers! Fabian
  8. Were you able to get any good deal on this location? Let me know, i'm interested to know :) In case you did not get anything yet, i know Hilton has a promotion of 1 suite with 2 bedrooms, for 149, includes 40 credit for dinner and 2 breakfasts...you can fit 6 people.
  9. Just letting you know the results of my latest bid. April 28 2.5* BEST WESTERN PLUS Montreal Downtown-Hotel Europa 48 Dollars Using as always the PRICELINE link from the forum Cheers! Fabian
  10. did you have any luck yet? im looking for the same dates
  11. the problem is that my mom still could get her visa this weekend...if that happens, we travel, so i dont want to cancel....i would have to call them on saturday to find out if they can change my bookings for the dates on wednesday,,but its a good tip, i will be definitely calling the hotels in montreal and quebec in case my mom doesnt come (those are for mid august), cause i wont be using them myself at all, maybe i can push them to a further date, let's see what they say, thanks everyone for the tips!
  12. I did that already, submit the papers. I'm also working with my company to get my visa. And thereuare, no, goverment didnt set up anything or wont take any responsibility of the costs that this will cause me, and most likely companies wont care either. I will give a call to priceline, but i doubt they want to support in anyway. as always, is the consumer and the innocents that will pay the bill. I dont critize the reasons behind the imposition for visa, but I do critize the way it was done, without taking into considerations the thousands of people with plane tickets already. Its all very sad and unfair :) by the way, mexico wont ask visas for Canadians. Czechs are trying to get the whole europe to impose visas on Canada. I doubt that will happen though.
  13. Well, as you might have heard, mexicans are required to have a visa since today in order to get into Canada. No warning or anything, they said that if you are flying this thursday you would need to submit your documents and passport and wait for them to return your passport(LOL!) I live in Canada and i cant leave the country cause i dont have a visa to come back, only a work permit, but thats not valid for getting into the country. My mom was supposed to come in 2 weeks and I doubt they issue the visa so fast, so she cant come to visit. She can come to NY, but i cant meet her in NY cause i wouldnt be able to return to Canada and I wont get this visa in 3 weeks either. I booked all hotels through priceline. Do you think they will make an exception because of all new this regulations? I dont need my money back, i just need to be able to change dates.....is there any hope? Do they even listel to this extraordinary circumstances cases? Should i just forget about it? please advice!
  14. i found the hotel in beauport area, it would take 55 minutes as well, i guess i would have to just stay where I am :)
  15. Thanks a lot for the tip! I have been to quebec city myself, and I do agre there is a bus system in place, but apparently from downtown to this hotel it would take 55 minutes, 2 buses.....according to Trajecto I think for the price of this hotel, its OK. I just wish i could have gotten a better area, we would spend 4 hours in a bus (considering 4 rides), and since we are staying there for just 1 day, I didnt think it was practical. Maybe i can balance 2 taxis and 2 buses rides, to lower the costs... I kept calling Priceline in order to know more about the option they gave me before, and after soo many calls, i finally got to understand that they only do this when you enter the wrong area..So, if i want to receive a partial refund for a new hotel, it would have to be another area. Which leaves me Beauport (only 2 an 1 stars) and Saint Fois (which can be even further). What are the hotels in Beauport? At this point, all I care is the location, so my question would be...is this area a bit better by bus than the previous one? Current hotel: quality hotel 1600 rue Bouvier, Quebec City, Quebec G2K 1N8, Canada
  16. Good idea, i'm going to check with them later today.thanks for the tip!
  17. Around 10 days ago I was trying to book a hotel in Quebec City through Priceline, I didnt care much about the stars, just wanted to be central. I didnt really analize the section called "Quebec" so I ended up with a hotel that is FAR away from downtown Quebec (Quality Suites, for $45 located close to La galerie de la capital). After realizing of this awful mistake, I called almost immediately, trying to get something out of it (i'm aware that there's no refunds but i still wanted to try), and they offered me to cancel the reservation minus $25 dollars of penalty, and the rest would be used for another reservation with them. In case I can't get any hotel, they would still cancel my hotel and give me nothing in return. I said i would decide later, and that's something i can do up until 1 day before my trip....So, I don't mind paying the 25 penalty fee (considering that in that hotel i would be paying aroun 100 dollars in taxis just to get around), but I want to know how can I do to try to get a better deal next time, due that the quebec area is way too big, so i cant really choose downtown. My budget would be around 50-70 dollars , and it has to be somewhere in downtown quebec. I've seen people getting good deals for june and july within my range and even cheaper, but not for august. So, should i bid again or do you think its impossible to get something reasonable with my budget? Thanks!
  18. Just to confirm, i was still talking about the Quality Hotel Downtown (2 stars) that I mentioned previously in the thread. Hope is all clear now! Thanks again :)
  19. So, I finally used PRICELINE trying to get this hotel, i won it at 38 first time, maybe could have got it cheaper, but I still think its a great price compared to the +$140 rates they have in the website. I used this PRICELINE link Thanks! I have successfully completed all the bookings I needed for this tour (Toronto, Montreal, New York) thanks to this site. Cheers!
  20. forgot to mention that I used this link PRICELINE
  21. thanks for all the tips, i finally booked my trip 4* Westin Jersey City Newport Started bidding from 67, 70, 73, 77, 80, and finally 85 dollars was the winner. I'm loving the rebidding strategy! I'm satisfied with the price since its a 4 star hotel in new york. Dates 5 - 8 August,2009 I'm very excited about this trip! Cheers Fabian
  22. I forgot to add its 69 dollars right now in Hotwire
  23. I'm not the most indicated person to guess, so take my answer with a grain of salt....but I can tell you what I do to guess hotels: Besides the amenities, Hotwire provides a rating based on reviews from Tripadvisor, you can go to trip advisor, search the city and filter the results by rating and amenities. You can also check how many reviews have been submitted. Your hotel says +180 reviews and rated 4.5. Last review in June. 4.5 stars hotel. Based on this, my best guess would be Loews - Hotel Vogue, its category 4 stars, has 199 reviews and its rated 4.5 by guests. Only thing is that I couldnt see the boutique listed among amenities,...Hopefully someone with more knowledge can verify this.
  24. thanks a lot for your very helpful advises, i finally got a room following the rebidding strategy! since I though i still had plenty of time to try during the week, I decided to try to get a 4* at the cheapest price possible, so i got it. 1st try: 60 dollars downtown, 4 stars 2nd try: 62 dollars, added Toronto east 3rd try: 64 dollars, added Brampton and I got this one at 64 :) 4 * Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. Aug 3rd I'm extremely satisfied with what I got ! I always use this PRICELINE link Thanks a lot guys!
  25. ok, so i will be bidding later today, but i just made a quick search, i found this in Hoboken/Jersey City in Hotwire 2.5 star hotel in Hoboken / Jersey City -Restaurant -Laundry -Internet rated 3.5/5 in tripadvisor with +60 reviews Can anyone tell which one is this?
