  1. Yes... although I searched for 2 adults and one child, the child being the 15 year old friend. Perhaps I should search for 3 adults.
  2. We are in NYC for 9 nights while daughter attends a Rockettes training program; not a cheap venture to stay 10 days in NYC, so I'd like to save as much as possible while still within walking distance of Radio City Music Hall. Hotwire is showing Midtown Central, 7/23/11-8/1/11, 3.5 stars, fitness, restauran, business center, internet, with a 65% hotwire guest approval rating. Any idea what this might be? Also... I am wondering if searching is futile. I am traveling with 2 teen girls and currently have a reservation for Hampton Inn Manhattan Times Square North for $199 plus taxes a night. Do you think I'll be able to beat this price?
  3. I just booked The George for $135 a night through Hotwire (used your link). 4-star, White House/Capitol, Boutique, fitness center, restaurant, hi-speed internet access. Staying 7/8/11-7/10/11, 2 adults Total cost $324. If I'd booked online through The George, it would have been $484-$527 (depending on whether it's a queen or king bed). We are very pleased as we are arriving via Amtrak and the hotel is very close to Union Station!
  4. Thanks... I'll let you know what happens!
  5. Yes, domestic, Bangor, ME to Orlando, FL. I always think it's odd that this comes up, and yet it has on several occasions over the past few years. I don't think that Priceline would stick us overnight in an airport terminal, but stranger things have happened. If anyone has any info on this situation, I'd appreciate it if you'd post it here. Unfortunately, it's becoming more and more difficult to fly out of Bangor with the very few airlines that are still flying here. To be on the safe side, I don't think I'll agree to redeye flights, just in case!
  6. Sorry, didn't know I needed to respond to a prior question before asking another. Response is posted on the Boston thread. If you can give me any info on the Priceline redeye situation, I'd appreciate it, and I'll use the PRICELINE link on this site, of course.
  7. We ended up staying at the Marriott Long Wharf at the AAA price of $129 per night. It was an interesting trip; we arrived in Boston at the beginning of a blizzard! The weather was so bad that even Quincy Market was closed on Monday- no food court, restaurant, or shops! We had a great trip, but different from what we'd envisioned when I was planning.
  8. I know that Priceline won't book you on a redeye unless you specifically agree to this. My question: What constitutes a redeye? I know that it means an overnight flight, but what about an overnight layover? Flying BGR-MCO sometimes pulls up an itinerary with an 8 hour, overnight layover in another city (frequently ATL). Would this overnight layover be considered a redeye? I don't mind flying overnight, but there's no way I will willingly sit in an airport overnight!! Related... I know there are a certain number of hours of connecting time that are acceptable. If you agree to a redeye, can they increase that connecting time if it's part of a redeye situation, such as described above, and you agree to accept a redeye?
  9. I am looking for a hotel room for 2 adults and a 17 year old in Boston, 12/26-12/28 2010. We are going to a show (Wang) and daughter is auditioning for Rockettes (near Boston Garden), and we'd like to eat in the North End, so I've been looking at that end of town. Hotwire comes up with three hotels in my price range in the Quincy Market/Financial District. Help on identification would be appreciated: Three stars, non-smoking, fitness center, restaurant, high speed internet, $85/nt; Four stars, boutique, non-smoking, fitness center, restaurant, business center, high speed internet, tennis nearby, $132/nt; Three and one-half stars, boutique, non-smoking, fitness center, restaurant, business center, high speed internet, $116/nt. There is also a Waterfront area/convention center hotel (ns, fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, internet, spa, $109 per nt) that is interesting. I am guessing this might be the Westin, but really have no idea. I grew up outside of Boston and am familiar with the City and traveling via the T, but have no clue about anything that's happened in the past 20 years, including the waterfront/convention center area and silver line. Is it difficult to commute using the Silver Line? Will it take forever to get to my destinations? I have a reservation at the Marriott at Long Wharf (AAA rate $129/nt) and might just go with that, but I love to get a DEAL when traveling, and I think the waterfront area hotel might just be that deal! Any ID on above hotels or other suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
  10. Just to put the final touch on the thread (I hate stories without endings...) We are staying at The Buckingham Hotel, July 4-13, 2009. Trip Advisor gives it good/OK mixed reviews, but I am going in with my eyes open; I know it's not a "real" hotel but a renovated apartment building, so there won't be the same amenities (i.e., no restaurant, no plush lobby, limited internet access, etc.). They ran a few specials and I was able to get a one bedroom deluxe suite with a separate king bedroom, living room with sofabed, full kitchen, dining area, 2 TV's, < 0.4 mile from Radio City Music Hall, for $159 plus taxes per night. I am very pleased with this- I will be staying for 5 nights with my 15y.o. and her 16y.o. friend who is also doing the Rockettes program, and then my husband arrives for the last 4 nights. Only drawback is staying with 2 teens and only one bathrrom! Thanks for all your help when I was considering PRICELINE / HOTWIRE. Bidding wasn't the best choice for this trip, but I'll be back for help and to bid on a quick Boston weekend later in the summer! I'M GOING TO NEW YORK!!! Lee
  11. Hi- Hotwire has just come up with three suggestions for our trip to NYC in July (7/4-7/13). My 15y.o. daughter is taking a training class with the Rockettes so we are hoping to be within walking distance (preferably less than a half-mile) of Radio City Music Hall. Here's what's come up; any idea of which hotels these might be? 3.5* Midtown East, fitness center, restaurant, business center, wireless, $109/nt; 4* Midtown East, fitness center, restaurant, business center, wireless, tennis nearby, $136 per nt; 4* Midtown Central, fitness center, restaurant, business center, wireless, $144/nt. I can't remember...does the price Hotwire lists include taxes and occupancy fee? Thanks.
  12. This might be the property- I am away from home and don't have the notes I took, so I could have mistakenly posted the wrong zone. The price is right, but I'm NOT going to buy this; "lackluster" reviews, and knowing we'll be there for 9 nights, makes me think I'll keep looking. Thanks for your help.
  13. Yes, I've been searching for 2 adults, 1 child. She is 15...hopefully not above the age cutoff for a child. Sorry I didn't include this in the previous post.
  14. HOTWIRE is showing a 3.5* midtown east hotel for $119 per night, 7/4/09-7/13/09. Amenities show as nonsmoking, fitness center, onsite restaurant, business center, internet access. Any idea which hotel this might be? thanks!!
  15. I am an old hand at Priceline, but know nothing about using hotwire. I have just found BB and am glad to have a friendly place for help with bidding questions. My daughter is taking a training course with the Rockettes this summer so we are hoping to find a NYC hotel that will cost less than the mortgage! I am interested in using HOTWIRE because I need guaranteed bedding for three, which is a dicey situation with PRICELINE in "older" cities. DETAILS: Travel dates check in 7/4/09, check out 7/13/09. 2 adults, 1 teen (15years old). Daughter needs to be at Radio City Music Hall at from 9am-6pm daily, and sometimes in the evening. I THINK we'd like a hotel in walking distance, but am not sure as I've never been to NYC and don't know if using the subway during rush hour in July is reasonable/tolerable. I also don't know what the areas are like for walking to and from, especially in the evening. I am thinking Midtown West, MT central, MT east. Not sure about Times Square or Chelsea for distance. I would LIKE to spend less that $150 per night, hopefully with taxes included. A room with a kitchenette or refrigerator would be a plus; a minisuite deluxe!! Seriously, if anyone can recommend a neighborhood where the hotels would be reasonably close to RCMH (< a half mile?), I would be happy. I just don't know how "close" those hotels over near the UN are...I guess I really need some confidence-boosting here, that I CAN do NYC.
  16. Just found BB today :) . This is a VERY interesting thread. I have always used TOBB for Priceline information. I thought that they have really good info on how to do the free rebidding thing, and have referred friends to them for help in understanding how to use Priceline. I probably use Priceline, through TOBB, three or four times a year. Unfortunately, the "voice" of the board has always been less than friendly, less than understanding that we aren't ALL travel experts, and has been pretty demanding :) . Perhaps she just isn't a people person, but TOBB has gone from being an OK site to use to being one I have avoided. I am SO GLAD to find BB and get away from the Travel ****, as I have come to refer to Sheryl. Now will I, too, get the honor of being banned from TOBB? (PS- I had no idea what TOBB meant, but immediately thought of TOBB when reading the first page of this thread!!)
