  1. I'd either take a cab or stay at a hotel near the airport the night before. If you rent a car that would entail going to the rental location the day before, paying for a full day's rental, and, if you're staying at a hotel in Arlington, likely paying for parking. Shuttles like Super Shuttle also a possibillity, but for such an early flight you'd have to be ready to be picked up in the middle of the night.

  2. I notice that on this site the Hotwire hotels in the Maryland suburbs around Washington, DC are listed under Washington, DC, but those for Priceline are listed only under Maryland, and then Silver Spring and College Park are grouped together, while they are listed separately on the Priceline site. Just wondring why. At this point we are leaning towards using Hotwire (linking from this site, of course), since the Silver Spring area as defined on Pricelne encompasses some areas (e.g., upper Silver Spring, far from Metro station areas) we don't want to consider. Thanks.

  3. Love the site. Small item> on Priceline, one of the geographic divisions under Washington, DC is Silver Spring (MD). I found no Silver Spring designation for Washington, DC on this site. I only found Silver Spring under Maryland- suburbs, and grouped with College Park, Maryland (on Priceline, Silver Spring & College Park are separate, and the latter is not found among the groups for Washington). I do understand that reporting of hotels depends on people winning beds sending in the info. And, by the way', it's Silver Spring, not Silver Springs. When I lived in the area a few years ago, lots of my mail gave my address as Silver Springs (I think that is the name of a town in Texas).

  4. As expected (since I had consulted thie site beforehand), got the Wyndham Miami Airport for $52 plus fees (total $65.27).

I used the HOTWIRE link on this site.

Amenities listed are shuttle, fitness center, pool, restaurant, hi-speed Internet, golf nearby and tennis nearby. Had first tried a bid of $60 for a 4-star hotel on PRICELINE and was turned down, but the Wyndham actually got better reviews on Tripadvisor.com than did the 4-star hotels listed for PRICELINE.

  5. Amenities: suite, airport shuttle (doesn't say if 24-hour), breakfast, pool, fitness center, restaurant, kitchenette. I gather from the list of Hotwire hotels on this site that this is likely the Embassy Suites LAX South (El Segundo). I've seen some responses here saying that they matched the list of amenities with a hotel using the packages section of the Hotwire site, but while I found that section of the Hotwire site I could not see how to find a specific hotel. Thanks!

  6. Thanks very much. I thought the 3-star might have been the Extended Stay Suites, but I see that's listed on this site as 2 1/2 star (though also noted as previously 2 1/2 star). Embassy Suites certainly gets high marks on Tripadvisor. Priceline seems to use the Millennium quite heavily, and the reviews of that hotel don't look great, plus it's 4 miles from downtown. Alyeska sounds great but it's even further out of town, and we need to be at the Anchorage train station early the next morning.

How did you find the hotels on the packages side of hotwire? I looked, by doing a search for the same date, and got only hotels up to 2 1/2 stars. Obviously missing something. But I am a newbie.

    Thanks again!
