  1. 3-star, $92: suite, airport shuttle, breakfast, fitness center, pool, business center, high speed Internet access. 3 1/2 star, $149: fitness center, restaurant, business center, high speed Internet access, tennis nearby. Could former be the Hilton or Sheraton? Latter sounds like the Millennium, though that's near the airport (I realize some sites may group it in with central Anchorage). Thanks!
  2. Thanks, I will contact the hotel for sure, since I just noticed I used the other person's first, middle and maiden names, and left off her married name (she uses all four on her credit card; she and her husband will use the room but I put her name down since charges will be on her credit card). Priceline's FAQs say no name changes permitted. I would hope the hotel wouldn't quibble, especially since the name as it currently appears will be on the woman's passport and credit card (just need to add the married name).
  3. Sutton Place. 2 rooms. First bid (guess I should have bid lower, but it's enough of a savings that I shouldn't complain). Forgot to use the link on this site when I went to Priceline, but will for our next bid. Although it's on my credit card, our friends will check in first. I listed them as responsible for the first room, and Priceline's customer service department had previously said that should not be a problem. Should I contact the hotel to confirm?
  4. We're looking to stay at the same place May 17. While Hotwire apparently uses the Marriott Pinnacle, and calls it a 5-star, too, it seems the Sutton Place is the more common choice. I did look at Priceline but liked the idea of narrowing down our location (we have some friends arriving before us, and will be leaving on a crusie the next day). Tripadvisor reviews for the Sutton are generally very positive.
  5. Hotwire lists a 4-star hotel near LAX at $69 for night of May 28. Amenities listed are airport shuttle, fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, Internet. I gather from the list, and other messages, that this is likely the Sheraton Gateway or Westin. Apparently Priceline uses the Rensisance Montura (among others), which gets better marks on Tripadvisor than do the Sheraton or Westin, so may try Priceline first-- for the chance that we'd get the Renaissance, without a guarantee of course-- and go with the Hotwire $69 if need be. If I get 2 rooms through Hotwire are they definitely in the same hotel? Priceline says they would be. Thanks!
  6. Surprised they didn't advise about a room with just one double bed. That is an unusual configuration. We stayed there in late 2007 in a room with a lrge king bed. Extremely comfortable. No one should accept a room with 1 double bed for 2 people unless they were advised in advance and said okay.
  7. Sorry for duplicate post, just found "new topic" button. Hotwire lists a 5-star hotel in Vancouver for $95 for night of May 17, with amenities of fitness center, poo., restaurant, business center, Internet, golf nearby and spa services. The list of pinned hotels, which does not seem to have been updated since 2003, shows the Pan Pacific Hotel and Sutton Placehotels (there is a Grande Residence at Sutton Place, but that's a condo, and Hotwire does list a separate offer of a 5-star hotel/condo for about $160). Are there any others? Offhand, this sounds as good or better than what I could get through Priceline, where I could just bid on 4-star or above. All of the 5-star options on Hotwire seem to be near the cruise ship port Canada Place. I gather that if I get two rooms through Hotwire they would be registered for different names, even if I pay with one credit card, so if our friends arrive several hours ahead of us they would be able to check in (or would I, as the purchaser, need to show my I.D.?). With Priceline I know we could check in separately.
  8. What about Priceline's ratings? For example, looking for hotels in downtown Vancouver, BC, Hotwire gives an offer of a 5-star hotel for $95 (plus tax, I gather). Priceline doesn't even lists any 5-star hotels in Vancouver, either on its list of specific hotels, or among the categories one can bid on. Expedia lists no 5-star ratings for that city. Travelocity lists 3 5-star hotels. Offhand I'd go with the 5-star hotel through Hotwire, though the fact that it's listed at alower price than some 4-star hotels (unnamed, of course) makes me wonder.
