  1. Nice to hear.. I did like the Copthorne Tara, but it could have been that I was lucky as I got a large room with almost American sized beds.
  2. I bid through the betterbidding PRICELINE link :) I started at $70 for Kensington 4 * (which I had tried for November 2009 earlier) and received a counterbid for $95. Tried to add areas Mayfair etc.. and increase in $ 5 increments. I had to raise it to $85 to get acceptance. I thought it would be the Copthorne Tara (where I have stayed earlier and I liked it..) Still a good value, although you can book it on the website for
  3. The bid of $60 was accepted. First bid, so probably a bit too high... Bid throgh the suggested PRICELINE link. Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $16.27 Total Charges for Add. Night Res.*: $76.27
  4. Being a Swedish citizen and resident myself I can only suggest that the writings by MadFlyer (all of them, not just the quote) are correct (at least according to my experiences). The only thing I would add is that Scandic Hotels (www.scandic.se) tend to have very good offers in the summer which probaby are better than bidding on PRICELINE.
  5. The dates are 4th of October 2005 to 7th of October 2005. I had the dates in the header, but it looks to me the was trunked.
  6. Going to a conference at SAS Radisson Schiphol and decided to try Priceline for the second time ever. I did a test bid on 5* from 85 to 95 to 105 using free rebids. All were rejected but the last one offered a counter bid of 125. After realizing I needed one more day and starting a new round I went for 4* at Schiphol. I was offered to raise my bid by at least 22. I know I could probably get it for 117 but I decided to ignore the hassle and bid 122. Was given the 5* Sheraton which will fit just fine. Listed prices were Euro 189 for the Radisson and Euro 225 at the Sheraton (with a canceling penalty). So price was less than half with Priceline!

    ETAP hotels?

Has stayed there a couple of times when going on holiday by car. Excellent value for money if you just want to sleep with private bathroom. No luxury at all, the bathroom is made by plastic and divided into shower, toilet and wash basin in separate places. Still very cheap and if you just want to sleep for the night it is quite OK. One or two hotels in the chain are a bit different, eg the one in Flensburg Germany which is very good. Beware of the breakfast if you are in France as it tends to be overpriced and only baguette, marmelade, coffee and artificial orange juice. Better eat breakfast at mcDonalds..
  8. Sixti have changed the terms for their rates since last time. Earlier the charge was 8 Euros per day, cleaning was not included and the mileage limit was 200 km a day. Now it seems as the cleaning is included and the mileage for one day was 500 km, but the rate was 29 Euros instead. So it seems you do not have to worry about this...
  9. Got a mail in my inbox about this as well. I rented a car from Sixti about a year ago at Hahn airport. There was no problem what so ever! :) Only thing to think about is to add cleaning and CDW. Also remember that the milage is not unlimited, but that should usually not be a problem.
  10. Just back from a conference where I stayed at the Skyline. It was OK, though I think it looked a bit old in the corridors and elevators... But at 70 USD (85 with taxes) it was a steal. The conference was next doors at the Marriot which was a nicer hotel, but they wanted GBP140 per night, three times as much.... A quick tip, (which may already be known). Instead of taking the Hoppabus for GBP3 you can take a public bus for free. The bus rides are free from Heathrow until the busstop closest to the Skyline. The buses also runs almost every second minute so you do not have to wait either.. Also, breakfast is terrible expensive at the hotel. There is always McDonalds which is three minutes away by foot...
  11. I have now been bidding for 5* and 4* in Rome for a weekend in March 2005. I am trying for a real low ball bid below $100. When bidding I have noticed that "the average retail price for a 5* hotel in Rome" suggested by Priceline (because my offer is supposed to be too low to be accepted) starts at around $380. When adding another area (a free bid) it drops to 300 and when adding a third it shows $210? Any ideas why this happens? My theroy is that there are very few accepted bids on 5* (as well as 4*) hotels in Rome and this causes the strange result... Also I am still very interested in suggestions how to get a luxury hotel cheap in Rome...
  12. Yes, the 3* hotel I booked was not really that fantastic. It was cheap and OK for the money but nothing more. Looking at a central 4* or 5* at a low price would be better. It is anyway always interesting to try to catch a real bargain...
  13. My dates are 18th of March to 20th of March, so it is 2 nights Friday to Sunday.
  14. When would be the best time to bid for a hotel in central Rome? I have just now booked two non-refundable flight tickets with Ryanair from Sweden to Rome-Ciampino. They are only USD 60 per person return so that is not a major problem in case of cancelling the trip. I have booked back up hotel room ( a three star central) thorugh www.venere.com that can be canceled a week in advance. I would however prefer a luxury central hotel in Rome. When do you think is the righht time for bidding? I know there is no simple answer but please give your ideas...
  15. Sixti usually also has another car at each place. I have rented a Ford Focus Wagon for
  16. Living in Sweden where the summers tend to be rainy and cold I go to Spain every summer (at least for the last three years) for holiday. I go to a small city 180 miles south to Barcelona where I have found a real nice house I can rent. To get there I need a car. As one of my children is handicapped I need a wagon to have room for the wheel chair. To cut a long story short I found out I could use Hertz prepaid rates from www.opodo.co.uk even though I live in Sweden. Those rates are very favourable compared to the standard rates. For a wagon (extreme but the others were also favourable) I got a rate of USD 500 instead of USD 1300 for a standard rental. The 500 rate was also available as prepaid from the Hertz UK site but then you had to have a UK post address. Prepaying is not too fun, but the penalty for cancelling was just GBP20 and for no-show GBP 50 so I can live with that...
  17. Coming from Sweden and travelling mainly in Europe (have not been to US for 7 years :) ) this is something I am quite used to. In Europe (especially France and Spain) it is very common to have something called grand lit (big bed in French) which tends to be quite intimate for two people. One of the larger package tour dealers in Sweden had information in their catalogue (pre-internet time :) ) that these rooms only suited people who "loved each other". So when I was i the States I was surprised over the size of the rooms. My room was big enough for four...
  18. Your Offer Price: $70.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $140.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $32.29 Total Charges: $172.29 Added another bid for the 18-19 after looking more at flights. Maybe a few $ too high but compared to GBP 140 for the Marriot next door or GBP 125 at Starwood I saved at least $400.
