  1. YES it was on Peel St. A wee bit worn around the edges, but still a decent property and I would stay here again. That said, you seem to want to specify your hotel but you really can't do this with PRICELINE, you have to accept any hotel that is in the star rating that you have selected.
  2. just curious, if you can't identify the hotel before purchase what are your options? For this stay, would you rather book an "unknown" 2* through HOTWIRE or would you consider a higher rated property through bidding on PRICELINE that is also unknown but within your budget? I only mention this because I stayed at the 3* Holiday Inn Select in Brampton through PRICELINE in the spring for $66, and I can't imagine that prices increase when the outside temperatures are below zero (Celsius). Note that if you bid, there is no guarantee that you would get the Holiday Inn Select.
  3. with one amenity this is difficult to identify, it could be the Howard Johnson's, Comfort Inn, or Days Inn. Please use the HOTWIRE links on the board if you proceed with this.
  4. I was unsuccessful in bidding for a room in the Secaucus-North Bergen and Meadowlands zones, had bid up to $58 for a 2*. HOTWIRE had what appeared to be the 2* Extended Stay America in East Rutherford for $56 or a 2* in the Jersey City zone for $58 with zero amenities, but I didn't want to take the chance that I'd end up at the HoJo's on Tonelle Ave, so I decided to check the adjacent Ft. Lee zone. I bid $60 for a 3* which was accepted immediately and I was upgraded to the Crowne Plaza. Your Offer Price: $60.00 Taxes & Fees: $16.70 Total Charges: $76.70 I guess its just human nature to get that bit of regret when the first bid is accepted, but I was jammed for time as it was a same day bid . The rack rate was $139 so I was pleased with the outcome. I have stayed here a few times and although the hotel is unremarkable, maybe that's not so bad. The room was large with comfy beds and it had a large flat screen tv. This hotel is very close to the George Washington Bridge and features a indoor pool. Made my bids using the PRICELINE links on the board.
  5. just go to Hotel Reviews forum and click the tab on the right "new topic" and start your title with "CA" for California, then the name of the city. It will be moved to the correct location.
  6. Please do start a new topic for your stay as this may help someone else seeking similar accomodations. For close proximity to EWR, you may want to consider the Elizabeth zone. The hotels reported to the board 2.5* and above have complimentary shuttles and the Country Inn and Suites is one of my faves.
  7. I would like to hear the outcome of this, you have a good argument. BTW, the rate for NYE is $95 per night, so well done! They call the $12.95 fee a "service charge"....a shameless money grab by any other name.
  8. You are correct, its just that the location of the Sheraton Meadowlands is isolated by a turnpike entrance/exit ramp, a divided highway. There is nothing to do in the immediate area. You will need to take a hotel shuttle bus that operates hourly to the Secaucus Junction train station, then hop on a train that will take you right to Madison Square Garden. This is the fine line where the benefit of a low priced accomodation may be trumped by the time and potential cost of commuting into the city while on vacation. Secaucus is a distant second to the Jersey City Waterfront in terms of convenience to commute into the city. That said, the Holiday Inn, La Quinta Suites (not the one in Clifton), Hyatt Place, Embassy Suites, Courtyard are all located in the Harmon Meadows/Mill Creek development and within a block of the NJ Transit Bus into NYC. This development has some shopping and several restaurants for convenience.
  9. I have stayed at the Meadowlands Sheraton before and I would never stay here without a car. You will be at the mercy of the hotel shuttle schedule or paying for a cab to/from Secaucus Junction train station.
  10. please post your winning $45 bid information and we will reply. Is this your first PRICELINE win in over 4 years? :)
  11. for 21-24 year old Young Renters, there is no Fee for Hertz Rental Cars! A special deal from Priceline. Deal ends: 11/24/2010 Use this PRICELINE link and look for Pricebreaker deals at the top of the page. Unfortunately, I will miss this deal by a few years, :) but maybe it will help a thrifty board member save $25 a day.
  12. This could be the Hotel Palomar Philadelphia - a Kimpton Hotel, this hotel features a spa.
  13. The mass transit system is really great in Chicago, and the #3 bus passes the Hilton along Michigan Ave., a bargain at $2.25.
  14. it worked like a charm for a recent trip to Chicago. Downtown hotels were at capacity due to a large trade show, but I was able to identify a 2* as the Red Roof Inn on Ontario St. for $88 and it saved me about $120 over rack rates, I got the last room offered to Last Minute Travel. My only other options were to stay out by O'Hare or pay $300 and up for a 3* property. I only considered properties with "available" status and nothing with "on request status".
  15. What are your dates of travel? Also, can you please follow up with the dates of your Greenbush and and Crowne Plaza wins? thanks!
  16. Note that even the "Majors" contract with some of the minors to handle some flights, for example, the aircraft might be flying the colors of Continental but it could be operated by a regional carrier such as Colgan Air.
  17. made several unsuccessful bids at the 3* level and 2.5* level, at $45 I had received the message to increase the bid to $60. Increased bid to $49, without success. I droped down to 2* and bid $53, was upgraded to 2.5*. Your Offer Price Per Room: $53.00 Taxes & Fees: $15.11 Total Charges: $68.11 The rack rate was $139, so I was pleased with this win. Looks like a new hotel for the Priceline Hotel List New York The hotel is only a few months old, the room had a sitting area with a pull out sofa bed with a small refrigerator and microwave and a built-in desk against an opaque screen to divide the room from the sleeping area. Super comfortable king bed and a commode/sink area seperated from the walk in shower/full size sink area. A free breakfast and free wifi is included. Without a doubt, its the nicest 2.5* property that I've stayed in to date.
  18. can you please post your dates of travel as well as conclude your Downtown Indy topic? thanks!
  19. rates are date specific, did you see any winning bids for your dates of travel? You keep making the same bids and getting the same result. I think you are close since the HOTWIRE rate is $79, but you will need to increase your bid a bit.
  20. Please post a conclusion to your previous Priceline New York topic and then bump this thread and we will take a look at this.
  21. bidding is free, but there could be a lost opportunity "cost" to you when PRICELINE room inventory is sold off due to hotels selling rooms through conventional means. It appears that HOTWIRE has the Sheraton Meadowlands for $79, so I think you're close at $55.
  22. made a same day bid for a hotel in the Rochester area, the rack rate is $109 tonight. Your Offer Price: $46.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.84 Total Charges: $60.84 Made my bids through the PRICELINE links on the board.
  23. If you booked using PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, past results may be found in your account.
