  1. I was totally happy when i won this property. I am writing this months after my stay because I thought I wrote a review the second night but It is not in this section. You can check with my win on this property. I believe it was $65 for the win. I put my bid in a month in advance which is why I think I got this property instead of the others. ALso Hilton Garden Inn in shelton usually accepted only my bids on thursday - Sunday. I did get an offer to extend my stay but since I was attempting to accept it only 15 minutes before check out the price had went up to $90. I decided to decline. The property is right off the highway on route 8 exit 11. It is a bit secluded which I like. I went in April. THe pool was closed but was being cleaned. My room was next to the pool, on the first floor. All the 2 bedrooms are on the second floor which you are unlikely to win on Priceline. I got a room with a queen size bed. There was a couch in the room but it did not pull out to a sleeper. There is a fireplace in the room but you must buy those supplies separately. There is a work desk in the room and a chair along with free access to the internet. There is a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, dishwasher, dishes etc. along with a table and chairs. I really enjoyed my room and my stay here. Breakfast was included at no additional cost. There was scrambled eggs, homemade waffles that you make yourself, homemade oatmeal, raisins, a very nice fruit salad, yogurt, breakfast danishes and doughnuts, bacon or sausage, whip cream, and beverages included, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, oj, apple juice, It is an all you can eat buffet that is set up nicely. You can enjoy the paper while you are eating your breakfast. THe only thing is you have to walk a bit from your room to the main building that serves the breakfast. I didn't mind but Ive heard others complain. They have a sidewalk that connects all the rooms together and during the summer you can even have a cookout. THe sidewalk is nice to walk along and I enjoyed using it. Other people were out walking their dogs or walking with infants and small children. THe rooms also offer a small balcony that you can open and have access to the room and outside w/o using the front door. Make sure you lock it at night. It was like a studio apt. It is a bit bigger than the rooms in Milford but the bed is smaller. They do have rooms with 2 beds in them if you need it for an extra cost inside these small studios. The rooms upstairs have the bedroom separated along wit 2 bathrooms for each bedroom area. It also has a loft where the second bedroom is but agian you are unlikely to get the larger room with priceline. I think it is a great place to stay for either one night or many many nights. Some workers live here for the length of their jobs with their families. I saw many work trucks parked at night and gone by early morning just to return again at night. I only wish the pool was open. Parking is free. Location is very safe and I felt "at home" here. This room would only be good for up to two adults sleeping together, or an adult and child. You could fit in a crib if you move the couch over; which is what I did.
  2. I first bid on two rooms on PRICELINE but because I couldn't book in fort lauderdale for the same day check in I got the same property that I probably would have won on PRICELINE at HOTWIRE. (It would have been $60 so $15 more / room on Hotwire than priceline) The amentites are : Near Beach Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby I know this is interchangeable with the other two Westin properties but the likelihood of getting that with the same day check-, was unlikely to me but not impossible. All my other searches on previous days with the same date gave a price of $79. The going rate is $179-$185/room/night. 2 rooms at $75/night = 150/night X3 nights =$450 plus taxes and fees $50.02 Total $500.02. I used your HOTWIRE Link to search and purchase.
  3. I decided to stay here to get away for the day and be close to the mall and the Toys R us store. It is a new hotel. At the front desk they were friendly but busy. The only mention of priceline was because one person was training and didn't know what that meant. The clerk quickly put my reservation in and I rec'd a room with 2 beds. Just what I wanted The room was nice and clean has a tub and a refrigerator and microwave and a flat screen tv. Nickelodeon channel but not Disney. There is also a desk in the room and a sitting chair and ottoman. It looks the same as the Shelton Hilton Garden Inn. This is the first time I ordered room service here and the pizza was a 14 inch pan pizza with lots of tomatoes and neither my daughter or I cared for it much. THe pasta she ordered with shrimp and primavera sauce was average. We didnt care for the shrimp much but she did like the pasta. I also had a salad which looked very fresh. What I didn't like was there are no place to have tea in the evening. It is only out in the morning I was told. THere is tea and coffee in the room; enough for two. Overall though its been a pretty good stay so far. We did go to the pool which is heated nicely 3 feet to 5 feet. It also has a gym room which i didnt use. No hot tub but the pool is heated nicely. I also like the large tub in the bathroom. We also enjoyed the fireplace in the lobby. It is a gas see thru one that I enjoyed very much especially because it was snowing out.
  4. First I bid $41 to stay in Shelton I was looking to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn In Shelton. I was given a second chance to bid if I increased it by $12. I then looked at the winning bids that were recently posted and saw accepted bids at $45 I then realized that the Hilton Garden Inn in Milford was open and on the Priceline list so I bid for that property instead as I never stayed there. I closed the window and opened a new one. I bid 3star in Milford for $44 and It was accepted on the first bid Taxes and fees were approx 12.87 TOtal $56.87 for one room and one night stay. .
  5. Bid $46 for three star for 3 nights and 4 nights rejected bid $$48 and $50 for for 2 nights and 3 nights rejected bid $52 for 2.5 star for 3 nights rejected bid $55 for 2 .5 star for 2 nights; accepted and upgraded to 3 star. I was expecting to get the Residence Inn in Milford but i didn't get it. Now that I am here I can say I really like this property. It is a all suite hotel and the room I have has a king size bed (my request) and a sectional couch that pulls out to be a bed and a foot rest. It also has a desk with free wifi and a flat screen tv. It has a sink and a small refrigerator but no microwave. They offer a free continental breakfast daily and a small bite to eat mon - thurs. in the evening. Starbucks coffee can be bought along with other things and charged to your room via your key. THe hot tub is 3 feet deep and is very warm it is the size of a small pool. The room itself is very large and roomy. Just what I am looking for. The staff are very friendly. Bathroom has a tub and shower and the closet is medium sized. I will post a more in depth review of this hotel in the hotel section tomorrow.
  6. $46/night for 2 nights $111.86 Total with taxes and fees. (same price for my nightly reservation at the Residence inn shelton for a penthouse suite; it was a 33 percent off special which was non commissionable ) 2 nights for the price of one! I had a reservation at the Residence INn in shelton because I got a great rate at $99/night for a penthouse for up to 29 days but I decided not to take it and canceled it because I was too tired to move! I wish I wasn't so tired that day because now i wish i could get that rate back but It went up again to $199/night yikes!!. So i bid for two more days here in milford and tried to change the dates on my reservation but that changed the rates so I guess so far i am staying here. Thank goodness for Priceline! ANd of course I used your PRICELINE Link. relaxing41
  7. First bid accepted for 3 star 46/night for one room total $167 for 3 nights I am already at this hotel; I anticipated getting this and am glad that I did.
  8. Used your PRICELINE link to begin bidding; prices ranged from $129-$169 depending on dates 3/11-3/19/2009 Bid 36 rejected; bid $40 offer to increase $12 ; I declined bid $45.00 for 4 nights; rejected. bid $46.00 accepted for 3 nights. It seems to me that this hotel does not take offers for more than 4 nights at a time at the $46/night bid. I have bid up to 15 nights for $46 and was declined but always accepted at 4 nights and always so far able to renew my offer/extend stay for the same rate for up to same nights. relaxing 41 bid $ 46 for one room from 3/11-3/ total$ 138 taxes and fees $26.44 grand total $164.44 Total of $54.80/night with tax and fees.
  9. Used your PRICELINE link to begin bidding Again accepted on first try rates were $139/night which is lower than usual; usual rates are $169/night. I really like the room we got this time because although it is supposed to be the same size studio it is actually larger than the one we had last time. The suites in this hotel are advertised as 50 - 75 percent larger than regular hotel rooms. If you get a room in the corner you will get a smaller room. If you get a room that is in the middle you will get a larger room. None of the studio's in this hotel have oven's but they do have stove top with full size refrigerator and full size microwave. King bed, pull out couch and chair. Desk w/chair 2 night stands and a coffee table. Bathroom has shower only and sink outside of the bathroom but vanity is larger than most hotels. I can fit a full size and a twin size bed in this room (double height airbeds) without having to move the beds out of the way during the day to walk around. The suite I am in now is truly spacious. relaxing41
  10. First bid accepted I did not want to take a chance and bid lower since I wanted to stay here and get accepted for these dates. $46.00/night $184.00 subtotal $32.92 Taxes and fees $216.92 Total
  11. Yes, i did call priceline as I was bidding for shelton area first for a few days and wanted to know why my bids were not being accepted. They responded by telling me that for the dates I was looking for they had no available hotel rooms for shelton at the 3 star level. I was bidding on three star level milford so this information came in handy. Unless you have confirmation that there is no hotel available though I would just then bid the 2.5 star level (milford) as this gives you the same result (until other hotels are added); which i did not know at that time, Let me make this clear: I was not referring to the retail version of priceline. about the extended stay option. Yes you are right not the best back up plan which i also didn't know until i got better at this. It is only good if you go ahead and press that you want the hotel to see if it is available and then save it during your stay or up to the days you can take before your stay. I realized afterward that this would not work in my case since the extended stay I was talking about was for a stay for a different week. I did though use the information that the hotel was willing to go as low as $50 to adjust my bid downward to $46 which so far has been the lowest accepted bid for this hotel. Thanks for asking. relaxing41
  12. Hotwire sent me an email with my reservation/confirmation number; thanks
  13. i called hotwire and was told he could switch the dates for me but when the transaction went thru and even after verifying the ammenities were the same ie swimming and fitness' he switched me to the holiday inn in bridgeport. i talked to one of the managers there and was told that nothing els could be done and i couldnt get a refund. she was rudeand yelled on the phone. insisting she needed to know why i couldnt stay at this hotel in bpt. finally i told her and she was not one bit empathetic. her response was "you can pack up your stuff and move to the bridgeport hotel ... why did you use hotwire if you couldnt stay in bpt?. not wqnting to talk to her anymore i asked to speak to her boss and she replied "I am the ONLY manager here,, I told her that was impossible and she replied" I can't let you talk to any other manager" I said why not she said " I mean the other managers do not have extensions so you can only talk to me. I said to her that couldn't be true and she just kept saying that SHE was it and I couldn't speak to anyone else. I asked for her name and she replied she could not give it to me for safety reasons. When i replied I'd never had any problems with hotwire before she just hung up the phone on me. Now I really don't know what to do. If i was still at the holiday inn express shelton i could ask them to switch dates but i am now confirmed with the holdiay inn bridgeport; which i have no confirmation number of. according to Ms. NO NAME. relaxing41
  14. This is the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Shelton. shows up as $68 or $69. I got it for $69. The amenities listed were swimming and fitness. I changed the dates a few times and one time it showed up as breakfast, swimming, fitness, business center then I rechecked for Bridgeport Holiday inn because I wasn't looking to stay in bpt. After changing dates many times I assumed my correct date was in box and hit purchase; I was wrong. I got this for 2/26 to 2/27/2009 . I am very careful with dates so I am not sure if mistake is mine, my computer, or the site. I need to change to 2/28-3/1/2009. Should I call hotwire or email them or can you help me? The star level for this property has clearly changed for hotwire site. This used to be listed as a 2.5 and is now a 3* property. Thanks relaxing41
  15. I used your PRICELINE link to begin my bidding. $58 first try!! :) I applied everything I have learned so far to see if it was possible to get this hotel through priceline bidding. IT WORKED! I am happy to add this hotel to your list. I have stayed at the Residence Inn in Milford and liked it but wanted to see if i could get to stay at the shelton Residence INN. I am happy to see that I can try this hotel at such a reduced price. I am glad to know the principles in order to do strategic bidding. This site has truly opened my eyes to the blind bidding I used to do in the past!! Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $58.00 Subtotal: $58.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.95 Total Charges*: $72.95 relaxing41
  16. Yes, I am just using one room for now. I originally was looking for two rooms; after getting here and talking to my kids I decided on one room for now; they don't want to be in a separate room from me so as long as I feel they are not crowding me this will be ok. The good thing is that this room is a suite with a living quarters. I just spoke to the clerk who told me that priceline automatically puts in for a standard double bed room , smoking. She was kind enough to change it for me to a King size bed ; ;non smoking. I don't smoke and can't stand the smell of it in the curtains etc. I am still not sure if they offer rooms without living quarters. She said she is able to change the room if she wants to and has the room available. relaxing41
  17. Yes, a little backwards but you got the gist of it ..I tested the waters for my short stay next month and applied info to my longer stay Earlier in the week. relaxing41
  18. Yes, I am just using one room for now. 19. Yes, I was but am not any longer since the room i have is sufficient. relaxing41
  20. yes, you are right from what I have researched This used to be the amerisuites hotel. there is a chair and a couch in the room! Also there is a small kitchenette includes a small refrigerator and tiny microwave. Also a free breakfast and free internet in your room. there is both a wired hook up and wireless available. Fits up to four people nicely; (two adults and two children) . I had a choice of either two double beds or king size bed. relaxing41
  21. What could this hotel be? 3 star hotel in shelton with ammenities of swimming pool and fitness center. No other amenities listed. dates i used were 2/20 - 2/28/09 Please Help Identify!! relaxing41
  22. ONe more thing to add: OF COURSE, I used your PRICELINE link for my bidding Thanks for not inflating the taxes and fees like the other site does which make final cost of hotel Much higher than need be!! relaxing41
  23. Just wanted to add that I did this bidding just one day before my check in date. The cheapest I saw for this hotel was for $75/night but all combinations include a sunday night with a rate of $133; otherwise other combinations increased the cost upward of $176/night. After my bid was accepted I rechecked other sites for rates and availability and NONE could offer a room for 2/20 anymore for this hotel! I started then to rebid for the second room - at $ 52 I was offered to increase price by $15. Since this would put me at $67 I declined because 1. I could get this hotel now for $86/night on other site and be positive I got this hotel; and 2. i don't want to be sent to another hotel for my second room! Not sure of possibility of being bumped up from 2.5 stars to 3.5 stars; but I am sure It has happened to someone!! Also When I got this offer the Trumull Marriot was in the list of hotels offering rooms for those nights so I dont want to chance it. I had an accepted offer from THe marriott trumbull for $59 and $60 in past and was bumped from 3 star to 3.5 stars. relaxing41
  24. I started out bidding for two rooms at $40. I rebid in increments of $2 so next bid was $42 etc. up until $49 which was declined. I realize other people in past got this for $45 and $55 I closed browser and rebid starting at $47. I got an offer to increase bid $17 which I declined. I didn't want to bid close to $60 as the Trumbull Marriot; Merritt Parkway has accepted my bid in past for as low as $59. It was 3 star though but I didnt want to chance being bumped up. I closed browser again and started to bid $50 for ONE room. I started at 2/20 - 3/1 and again decreased bid by one date for new bid. I then bid $53 and was accepted. for 8 nights. When I get to property I will decide if i need two rooms or not! Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $53.00 Subtotal: $424.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $66.99 Total Charges*: $490.99 relaxing41
