While checking hotels in Hong Kong I found the HIEX Causeway Bay to be a 2-hotel on the PL retail section. On HW packages this hotel can be booked as a 3,5*-hotel. I'm wondering which rating is correct since this is a huge difference. In addition I would like to learn, if on PL's name-your-own-price-section the winning bid hotel will always have the same star-level as in the retail section.

Yes, HOTWIRE rates can be higher than for example booking with the hotel directly. Sometimes rates are only slightly higher and due to disappointment one doesn`t take advantage of their "low rates guarantee" afterwards. With HOTWIRE you always have to be very careful and you can't be sure that booking with HOTWIRE guarantees the big deal! So do your homework before ! Good luck!

This is a match for the Crowne Plaza. Given the rate I'd rather consider the three star property on HOTWIRE for half the price which is a match for the Hyatt Place.

This is a match for the Hesperia Madrid. IMO prices between PRICELINE and HOTWIRE don't vary much in Europe compared to the US. Usually prices in Europe go up on HOTWIRE the closer the check-in date gets, hence do not expect a last minute deal.

I always check the winning-list with its zones first. You often find zones with US chain hotels only (Marriott, Hilton...), these hotels usually allow four persons in one room. Hence the risk gets lower, finally a smile at reception and some tipping/surcharge if necessary... We've always been lucky so far.

Thanks Madflyer! This hotel is a real mystery to me. I find the rate for Spain extraordinary low and the property even accommodates 2 ad.+2 kids in one room! Not often to be found in Europe as well. But I can't image a HIX as 3,5*, that would be an exaggeration.

Hi! Travel dates are 10/23/10-10/25/10. Amenties: Business, Restaurant. Rate is $39/night. Any ideas? They can't upgrade the HIX in that area from 3* to 3,5*?

I woudn't get to nervous because of the downgrading. Sometimes it seems to me as if HW changes the category slightly in order to create confusion for us bidders, keeping the gamble alive.

Got the Crowne Plaza Amenities were Fitness, Laundry, Pool, Restaurant, Internet. Expected to get the cheaper Holiday Inn. :) :)
