  1. I got it on my first bid. Actually, I was surprised because I didn't expect the bid to win. But I am pretty sure this is the best price they offer for a Minivan. Offer Price: $25.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 8 days Subtotal: $200.00 Taxes and Fees: $32.38 :) Total Charges: $232.48
  2. Ok, tried again today... Del Mar Bid $55 rejected...Add Sorrento bid $57 rejected...add Downtown bid $60 rejected...add Pt. Loma bid $62 rejected...add Coronodo bid $65 rejected...add SD Coastal bid $68 rejected I see the Del Mar Doubletree was won for $75 but for a date in July. As long as i have time, I'll keep plugging away.
  3. Great price for a Hyatt, even if it is at the Airport. Congratulations
  4. Seems like the Omni ought to be available at about $100 for the weekend based on previous winning bids, but because you have a day before the weekend, and 2 days after the weekend, a split bid might be your best bet if you want that hotel. Try bidding 7/21-7/25 and see if you can get it using the same strategy, then you can either book directly or try your luck at getting the same hotel on the 7/20 date. Good luck
  5. I just booked a really good deal at www.travelzoo.com. I posted it in the Summer Deals Thread below. Also I posted the Travelzoo link here too. Las Vegas Summer Deals Thread Travelzoo offers for Las Vegas: http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/
  6. Looking to see if I can catch a hotel in Del Mar or Sorrento Mesa. I was afraid to bid Mission Valley because there are some 2.5s there I would rather not get. Still have time to bid, so I'll be watching for other's bidding around the same time frame too. My bidding so far was: 3* Del Mar Sorrento Mesa $52...rejected add 2.5* $54...rejected add Downtown SD $56...rejected add Point Loma-Shelter Island $57...rejected add Coronado $58...rejected add SD Coastal $60...rejected
  7. I found alot of other discounts too at Travelzoo.com. It looks like there are quite a few good values to be found on the strip, at least until September. I made back up reservations at the Renaissance Las Vegas for $89 a night. Also, I think the Hilton Las Vegas Resort is a pretty good deal at $79 a night. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/
  8. Just made a backup bid on the Renaissance LV from the web site below for only $89.00 a night weeknights and $10 more for weekends. Just in case anyone else wants their Marriot points too. Renaissance
  9. My advice is not to stay at the Luxor...the pyramid shape is unique, but there are really bad noise problems that I encountered during my 2 different stays there. The worst was the water pipes knocking so loudly that it would not allow me to sleep at night. 2nd, the open Atrium bounces the sound all around outside the room causing an accustical nightmare from people walking and talking far below. I would never stay there again, even if it was being given away.
  10. I am planning a trip to Thailand just after Christmas and most fares are $1,100 plus now. For anyone with experience on this, is this the lowest fare I will find? Or will there be a dip sometime in available fares before I go. I've been looking all around, and I'd prefer a flight that gives AA advantage miles (JAL, Cathay Pacific).
  11. Yes, what HI were you refering to? I have frequently complained about HI properties without elevators, or with "restaurants" that are little more than coffee shops being rated the same as a Hilton or Marriot. I think it all depends on the kickback that HI pays back to priceline. P.S. I have stayed at some very nice HI locations, but a majority have come up short, so I am very cautious whenever bidding in a zone where you might win HI.
  12. I have an old review of the hotel on Tripadvisor. The biggest negatives is the lack of restaurants (after hours) nearby, and street noise that many rooms get. But the price is good. Congratulations on your win.
  13. Ok, there's alot of information you are asking about, but I'll just summerize to be a bit more succinct. USE between Union Square and the Ferry Terminal is mostly devoid of restaurants after working hours because it is primarily in a business district, but it has the advantage of being only a few blocks south of Chinatown, if that is a place you'd like to visit. USW and immediately around Union Square has many more hotels and restaurants and standard tourist fare, althrough that tends to attract the most homeless and beggers as well. I think either area (north of Market St.) is fairly safe to walk in, but it's best to take normal precautions. ------- I think convention booking now is going to be tighter than ever because New Orleans, a major convention destination is now unavailable. Fridays and Sundays would normally be better than other nights because business traffic is lower and not every SF weekend getaway would include an extra day. On my business stays, my company normally pays around $200 a night. On personal trips, I usually like to stay under $100 a night, but that's not always possible if a major convention is in town. I'm not the expert on bidding zones, but I know if you'd like to try for a 4 star hotel, you can bid USW and then rebid by adding up to 5 zones like CH and FW which do not have a 4 in those zones. Keep reading and you'll see the bidding strategies you can use...there are plenty of choices (and some trade offs). Good luck!
  14. Congratulations on your success. I was looking at prices myself, and since the posted rate is $295 for the cheapest room, I think saving 33% on the reservation at this popular resort is the best deal on this property that you are going to find.
  15. I couldn't agree more with thereuare. I have not yet stayed in the Venetian, but I can tell you that besides the unusual pyramid shape of the Luxor, there is little to reccomend it. The ceilings are very low...I think only 7 ft, and both times I have stayed there, there was very loud water pipe hammering throughout the mornings and evenings, making it nearly impossible for me to sleep. (also, the extras like the museum and buffets are mediocre at best and would most likely be a dissapointment to most people expecting a more upscale experience.) The Blue Man Group is fun if you have never seen that show before, but at an $82 ticket price (what I paid), it seems a bit overpriced for their brand of minimalist experimental theatre. Actually, I ought to go ahead and put this in hotel reviews....I'll do that shortly.
  16. That is an awesome price...congratulations.... One of these days, I'll have to take advantage of that too, as soon as the shuttle is flying again.
  17. If you hadn't said anything, I would have never known. Thanks for your excellent work.
  18. You folks are so damn good with your research! Kudos to all of you!
  19. Here are a couple of my thoughts and experiences - I hope they help: There are no guarantees on what room you are going to get on Priceline...Even the best researched plans and strategies may yield unpleasant results, so if you only want a specific type of room/adjoining rooms, then probably Priceline is not for you. That being said, if you are willing to take a chance, you may be able to get exactly what you want, especially if it is a multi-night stay. Here are my experiences below:
  20. Lucky you! $89 will probobly stand as the lowest price you'll see for the St. Francis all year. I'll bet money on that.
  21. If it is a new priceline Hotel, make sure you give the feedback to Priceline as I am certain they will send an email to you asking for your input. They may well downgrade the hotel if every person who stays there complains about it. I'm very sorry for your miserable experience.
  22. Just wondering what you didn't like about the hotel, assuming you have had a past stay there. The trip advisor reviews seemed positive, althrough they were talking about the executive level. I will be making a trip to asia this summer, so I'd appreciate your feedback. (I can relate to some very bad Holiday Inn stays however)
  23. I haven't been able to book any small town hotels yet. I was looking into a ski vacation, but the towns I have tried to book are either greyed out (like Mammoth Lakes) or the hotel prices weren't accepted at a reasonable level. On my trip to Oregon last month, I got turned down for Bend, OR (serving Mt. Bachelor) for $40, but easily found a room with Jacuzzi (Quality Inn) for $59.00. (room w/o Jacuzzi would have been $52.) The hardest part is because most small towns have limited rebids, and of course the hotels may be unknown as well, because most have not been used as often as the larger cities.
  24. Congratulations! and do not feel so bad. I am positive that that is the lowest bid that Priceline would accept...unless they actually made an input error into their system (which has happened before). With a price that low, I might just book a couple of nights myself for a Disneyland getaway! ~Steve~ P.S. ndloewen - you should post your Hotwire request under the Hotwire side so people can see and respond to your request.
