  1. Hi, Is there a certain day that generally is cheaper to start renting a car? For example, is it usually cheaper to pick up a car on a Friday than say a Wednesday?
  2. No, we haven't set the dates for the trip yet, so I'm just browsing to see what hotels are available in this zone, and I can't recall seeing that 4* before.
  3. Number one could be the Andaz West Hollywood, the second one looks like the Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills, the third one I'm not sure.
  4. Sorry, the hotel doesn't appear on the dates above, I made a random search for June 16 to June 17, and it appears there.
  5. No, there's a 4* that has more amenities and matches up with the Sheraton Universal, but there's another 4* that only has two amenities, Fitness and WiFi, and a 4.0/5 TripAdvisor rating and 60+ reviews. I can't find any hotels on TripAdvisor that match up with this.
  6. There's a hotel that came up on my search for May 4 to May 6 that I can't find in the hotel list on this board. The hotel is a 3.5* (sorry, posted wrong number of stars in title, it's 3.5*) in the Glendale - Burbank - Universal City area. It says that the hotel has a 4.0 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor, with 160+ reviews. The amenities are:
  7. I posted about the same question recently: Los Angeles Hotels Free Parking There are a couple of hotels mentioned there that have free parking. My conclusion was that it's hard to beat a 3 or 3.5 star hotel at $45 even if you have to pay extra for parking and internet. For example, The Vagabond Inn in Glendale, an average one or two star motel, charges between $70 and $80 on the nights you specified. Yes, you might get free parking, free internet and a donut for breakfast, but which one is the better value?
  8. So let's say you're booking a room for 2 people and want 2 beds, should you enter 3 or 4 adults to be sure? Nice, that's good to know.
  9. Thanks Colfax, we haven't set a date for the trip yet, so I'm just browsing for now. I thought Priceline and Hotwire had the same policy as far as not technically being able to guarantee a certain room? We pretty much always got what we asked for though. And thanks AaronJB for the Orbitz code, that just saved me over 50 bucks on a hotel that wasn't available on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE.
  10. Cool, I didn't look to closely at this one before because of the so so reviews, but it might be a pretty good deal after all. However, thereuare has a good point. I've seen the Hilton in Glendale go for as low as $45, so even if you add $20-$30 extra for internet and parking, it might still be cheaper than the Holiday Inn, which usually costs $70-$90 on both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE. Is it just me or does it seem like the hotel prices are going down as the economy is getting worse?
  11. I love Marriott hotels, but we mostly hang out in the Glendale/Hollywood area when we're in LA so I would like to stay at least somewhat close to there. Marina del Rey would be a little far. I know free parking in general is hard to find in LA, but most 2 or 2.5 still don't charge for this (at least I haven't came across any that do). I have looked at the 2 and 2.5 stars that are listed on Hotwire and Priceline in the Glendale and Hollywood areas, but they're mostly on the sketchy side it seems, so I guess what I'm looking to see is if anyone knows of maybe a 3 star or something in these areas that still offers a good value on amenities.
  12. Seems like most of the 3-4 star hotel charge for wifi and parking, while it's hard to find a 2 or 2.5 star hotel that doesn't have scary reviews. Is it possible to get the best of both worlds? Either a nice 2 or 2.5 star, or a 3 or 4 star with free wifi and parking? I would like to stay in Glendale, Burbank, Hollywood or maybe downtown or Studio City or Universal if necessary, and would also prefer to not stay in a 2 or 2.5 as it seems like it's hard to find a good one. I'm somewhat picky. Also haven't set a time for the trip yet, just wondering in general.
  13. Started bidding at $65, and increased with $5 up to $85, received a counteroffer of $85 + $22. Bid again at $97 and won the Marriott Burbank Airport for 3/3-3/8 2009.
  14. Thanks, that's a great tip! I'm looking for a 3 1/2* hotel room in the Burbank - Universal City - Glendale area for 4 nights, Sunday through Thursday, in March of next year, and I've been bidding for a while with no luck. The entire stay is for 9 nights, but I split my bid and won the Burbank Airport Marriott (3 1/2*) for the first portion of the trip for $97 per night, but then when I tried again it got rejected and my bid is still being rejected for as high as $109. Is this because this stay is mainly in the week? Or is it to early to bid? What should be my maximum bid?
  15. Is 5 months in advance too early to bid for a hotel in a major city? And are there any differences between typical business hotels vs. family/vacation hotels as far as when to book, and also which day a stay should start on in order to get the best rate? For example, business hotels tend to have cheaper rooms on weekends, so is it better to arrive during the weekend? I'm looking for a business hotel.
  16. Seeing as they all have the same star rating I don't think there's any way you can really control the outcome, my only tip would be to check the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins around this date to see what other people are getting. I think I've seen the Pasadena Westin a lot on there lately.
