  1. Definitely an attractive price and a welcomed new addition (although I see it's already in the hotel list, I couldn't find any previous reported win for this one). Would much prefer this Courtyard over the Best Western or Holiday Inn.
  2. Nice to see rates return to what they used to be. Recently even bidding as high as $42 only yielded a 2* hotel.
  3. Here's an awesome deal advertised by the Larkspur Landing hotel on Craigslist. If you need a hotel in the South San Francisco area for a minimum of a month, this deal is comparable to Priceline rates and allows you to stay in one hotel without having to bid multiple times and risk getting different hotels! Considering that this rate is not much different than Priceline's, and seeing as the hotel obviously has spare inventory, it's puzzling that the hotel has not been seen won on Priceline in many months. In addition to providing this link to the Craigslist posting, I've copied the message below in case it scrolls off Craigslist in a few days. thereuare will remove if this violates copyrights... $1650 / 1br - Relocating? Fully Furnished Studio - All Suite Hotel Date: 2006-05-17, 12:34PM PDT Relocating to the Bay Area? Need a temporary place to stay? No lease required! Let The Larkspur Landing, Home Suite Hotel be your home away from home. For a monthly rate of $1650, you will enjoy a fully furnished studio within close proximity to SF, only 8 miles south of the downtown area. The Larkspur Landing is a beautiful upscale, all-suite extended stay hotel, offering all the services and amenities you
  4. I would have preferred the La Quinta. However, now that they've done away with the $9.99 charge for Internet, and installed a washer/dryer, I'm fine with this Holiday Inn. The only advantage La Quinta now has left is the free breakfast (but I skip it most mornings anyway). Still puzzled why we're no longer seeing wins at the Larkspur Landing or Hilton Garden Inn.

  8. Same-day booking. Priceline had today's date grayed-out and I doubt they could beat this Hotwire offer anyway. 10. That's the downtown La Quinta. You have it in the Hotwire hotel list but not yet in the PL list. It is indeed in PL's Cathedral Hill zone, and I remember showing it to you when we drove by :-) 1050 Van Ness Avenue San Francisco, CA 94109

  12. We're used to much lower rates for hotels in SFO, so yes this is disappointing. But not as disappointing as no longer being able to get hotels in the South San Francisco zone other than the occasional win at the Courtyard. Seems like the Homewood Suites, Hilton Garden Inn and Larkspur Landing have dropped Priceline or bumped their rates way too high.

  14. Still getting these, but not for every stay, just randomly. Give it another day or two, maybe one will come.
  15. Although I made maybe one purchase on Hotwire in the last three years, I use their website all the time to get a feel for availability of hotels. Entering SFO for the hotel location, I no longer got the second screen where I would choose any San Francisco area zones, but rather got a results page showing the SFO (airport) zones only. It appears that Hotwire has completely separated the SFO area from the San Francisco city area. I must enter "San Francisco" in the search screen to get the San Francisco zones. This is worrisome, because someone might know an airport code but not necessarily the names of cities around that airport. Whereas previously the list of hotels was sorted by default by Best Value, now it came up sorted by distance. Neither is my first preference. I always re-sort by price. The other locations shown at the bottom of the screen, under "Still shopping?" are irrelevant to my search (they are in other Priceline areas altogether). One improvement is that now I am able to select four San Francisco city zones, whereas previously it would only let select two. Adding zones by checking them in the box on the left-hand side of the results screen, and clicking Update, is better in my opinion than the annoying drop-down list box they previously had at the top of the screen. It allows me to add all remaining zones, rather than selecting one additional zone at a time. I like the "Compare prices" thing.
  16. A standard Courtyard, you've seen one - you've seen them all. I can't comment on the area, because I arrived late at night and left the next morning. It was very conveniently located between freeways 91 and 215 on my way to Palm Springs. Check in was quick and friendly, as was checkout. The room had a king bed, a sleeper-sofa; a large dresser; a small closet; iron and board; coffee maker. Soap and shampoo in the bathroom. I saw out the room window that the hotel has a nice outdoor pool. Free parking, local and 800 calls, wired Internet, local newspaper. No additional taxes/fees charged.

  19. Don't worry about it. This is one of the nicer Homesteads I've stayed at.
  20. Yes, the Hotwire $45 2* offer is the La Quinta. Note that often times, when you select 1-2 guests, Hotwire will present the Travelodge, and when you select 3-4 guests it will show the La Quinta, so pay attention to the amenity icons to distinguish... you don't want this Travelodge when you can have the La Quinta. When I won the La Quinta for the 13th, Expedia showed this hotel as unavailable. Your win of the La Quinta for the 14th (also shown as unavailable) again demonstrates how useless Expedia is for any purpose of comparison or determining availability. You might have started with a $35 bid since there are so many rebid combinations in the SF areas. I always start with $33 and step $1 from there (yes, I need to get a life).
