  3. I understand the fluctuation with the Hotwire percentage. I guess I should say I was also using the Trip Advisor rating along with the reviews/photos on there to gauge for my needs.
  4. Used the better bidding HOTWIRE link, thank you again. Hope this info helps someone. Doubletree Club Orange County Airport - Santa Ana $51 2/19/11-2/20/11 Amenities: Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool Business Center High-Speed Internet Access 90% of Hotwire customer reviews recommend out of 200+ total reviews 4.0 out of 5.0 Trip Advisor Some notes: I was given the opportunity to upgrade from this to a 3.5* (probably Crowne Plaza Irvine by the looks of the amenities/ratings). Also when I did an initial search and selected the 3.5* for $56, Hotwire offered to upgrade me to to a 4* at $56 (probably the Hyatt or Hilton). This is through a program called "Hotwire Express" for frequent users of Hotwire - it offers upgrades at the same rate. I know it might seem crazy to go with the 3* when the 4* was offered to me for only a few bucks more, but I thought I'd try going with what seems like better review/ratings. The 4* had something like 80% out of 500+ reviews at Hotwire / 3.5 out of 5.0 Trip Advisor. I guess it depends on what you're looking for, and my priority was a good room. The rooms seemed like they were rated better overall at the 3*. I think since last fall, this particular hotel went from free parking to charging $11 self-park/$14 valet, but the other choices would have charged parking fees anyway so oh well. Out of curiosity after I booked, I checked and this property was still listing with all the same info except it went from 90% reviews to "We are still reviewing this property" When I signed out though it changed back to show the 90% recommendation again which was interesting.

  6. Never got around to posting this, but hope it helps for future searches. Orange County (Fullerton-Brea) / Please use HOTWIRE betterbidding link. 3.5* Embassy Suites Brea-North Orange County (Birch Street location - Brea) Date: 6/27/10-6/28/10 $59 Amenities: Suite Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center Underground parking was free. Lots of restaurants and shopping in that area. Great hotel. Quiet, clean and modern.
  7. This is the Embassy Suites location on Frontera St, right off Glassell St, 91 Freeway. I don't know if it's really considered Anaheim or Fullerton. $79 Date: 9/18/10-9/19/10 Amenities: Suite Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center Used HOTWIRE link, thanks betterbidding. You can get this for less usually, but I really wanted to stay at the Embassy Suites and still had $25 hotwire dollars to blow. In the end, having had free parking, complimentary breakfast and free cocktails at the manager's reception, this was worth it. Hotel is undergoing construction, but it didn't bother us. Right next to some sort of industrial plant...ask for a room not facing it if you don't want to be woken up to beep...beep...beep at 4 am. Room had high ceilings and origami towels. *************************************************************** Also, I noticed that on the better bidding CA list, it says the Birch St./Brea location for Embassy Suites hasn't been reported. I think I just never got around to reporting it, so here it is: 3.5* Embassy Suites Brea-North Orange County (Birch Street location - Brea) Date: 6/27/10-6/28/10 $59 Amenities: Suite Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center Underground parking was free. Lots of restaurants and shopping in that area.
  8. $43 (w/ tax = $55) Only Amenities listed were Laundry Facilities. Room came with a plain kitchenette though which was cool, except we didn't need it. Almost went with the $38 place in Buena Park, but after reading reviews of how there are no towels in those rooms, just went with this place. Used HOTWIRE link, thanks betterbidding. I think this hotel is listed under Anaheim on your CA list, you can add it to the Fullerton/Brea area for 2* hotels. Free parking, kinda tucked away behind a business complex, but close to the 91 freeway. Felt like a safe enough area and not a "scary" area which you might think for a 2* place. Bed wasn't comfortable, and the 2 small, lumpy pillows and lack of proper blanket made the star rating seem appropriate. We got in pretty late so I didn't ask for another blanket, etc. from the front desk. It worked fine if you just need a night's rest. Still, if you can fork out $15-20, I'd go with a better place if the parking was still free.
  9. I wanted to give update about my experience, I thought it might be helpful to others. When I went to check into this hotel, I was told I would be given one room with 2 double beds and that I would have to pay an additional fee of $25 to get a suite. When I explained that I had booked a suite through Hotwire, they told me "suites are subject to availability." I understood that it was a holiday weekend (Labor Day), however, that policy seemed like a crock if it WAS available. If it's available, then they should have put me in one since I paid for that. The only additional incidental charge that was shown to me through Hotwire would be parking, which I knew to be $15. I decided not to continue check-in and contacted Hotwire. Hotwire gave me the option of cancelling the stay and booking a new hotel or paying for the suite and being reimbursed. I took the second option. So I continued the check-in process, paid the extra $25 (plus taxes) fees to get the suite. I had a new rep help me at the front desk, who was very accommodating. He waived the parking fee, and even gave me some pain relievers out of their emergency kit (normally you pay for a packet through their "gift shop"). The suite was awesome, and they put us away from the elevator, high up away from the crowds. I didn't hear a thing. The free breakfast and manager's reception (free alcoholic beverages and snacks), made this stay even more fantastic. I faxed Hotwire yesterday and got an email response today explaining the details of my full credit. It's going to take a billing period or 2, but I don't mind. I also received $25 Hotwire cash for my trouble. I was thinking about trying Priceline, but now I'm going to keep my business with Hotwire. This could have been a bad experience, but it ended up being a great one. :)
  10. Embassy Suites Costa Mesa-Orange County Airport-Irvine 9/04/10-9/05/10 (Sat - Sun) $55 (w/tax $67.06 plus there is a $15 parking fee) Price direct from hotel is $119 before tax. 3.5* Costa Mesa - Orange County Airport - Irvine area Hotel Amenities: Suite, Shuttle, Restaurant, Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet I think it was recommended by 80% of Hotwire customer reviews. 12. Hi, I followed the BB PRICELINE link and bid following the same as this earlier win (from user andrewy on 01/28/10 for the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach), but it didn't work: Hyatt Newport Beach Here was my bid history, stuck with 4* all the way through: Started with Newport Beach $38 Added Anaheim Hills $40 Added Disneyland - Anaheim $42 Added Fullerton Brea $44 Added Laguna Beach $48 Added Laguna Hills $50 Added Seal Beach $55 Added Dana Point / San Clemente $59 Added Disneyland - Orange $61 Added Buena Park $63 I didn't want to add the Irvine zone and get the Hyatt Regency in Irvine. The other hotel I would like to get is the Embassy Suites in Fullerton Brea. It's a 3.5* but there's a Crowne Plaza and Marriott same star level in the same area. Any advice on how to get that is much appreciated.
