  1. I tried bidding today again and attempted $65, $70, $75, and $80 bids. Nothing was accepted.
  2. I'm working on booking a room in Savannah, GA for 3 nights during Memorial Day 5/28-5/31. The best deal I'm finding without bidding is $110/night at Four Points Sheraton, so trying to beat that and get something nicer maybe too. I'm only looking at the Historic District. I tried 3*+ with $45, 50, $55, and $60 bids. All rejected so far. I'm not too worried as we have time. There are 3 rebid zones for this bid. Going to try again in the next few days. Hopefully, this is helpful to someone.
  3. Do you know what the price range for these hotels and the 2-star hotels would be in the Upper Napa area? I'm curious if it's possible to win something in under $100 range. Priceline now has a feature that lets you see past bids and I see a past bid for $155 that was accepted, which is still pretty high for me. I know hotels in this area are expensive though... I'm going to a friend's wedding and need to win something for mid-August in Upper Napa Valley area under Napa on Priceline. Thanks!
  4. Just got back from Philly last night. We were very happy with this hotel. The location is very convenient at 11th Street, so right in between Rittenhouse Square and Old City areas. It was easy to walk almost everywhere. We also had no problems getting a room with 2 beds on request at check-in.
  5. Thanks guys! I got exactly what I wanted at $60, having my friend bid and your PRICELINE link of course. Got the Hilton Garden Inn on Arch Street in Downtown. Thank you for this forum! (I'm assuming the moderator will change the header of this thread since I can no longer edit).
  6. Thanks! I'll try it again tonight. Do you think that message means that I can potentially win at $60?
  7. I used the re-bid while I was still within 24 hours since my last attempt last night. I thought I'd be able to do it over again after the 24 hours expired. However. I just tried it and I'm being told that I am not allowed to do it without changing more options because it's a duplicate request....
  8. Just tried it and it's a no-go. Got this response: We searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $55 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number ###-###-###-##. If you are willing to raise your price by $15, you can try the same request again right now. My 24-hrs is up in an hour or so, so I will have 2 more tries. Suggestions welcome! Thank you!
  9. As far as I can tell, the Gloucester area is the free re-bid since it only has 2.5 star and below hotels. Is this correct? (I think the link above needs to be updated since you don't have to click to the next page anymore to see which star levels each area offers. The ones that you cannot select once you "select" an area get grayed out.) Thanks!
  10. Hi, I wanted to get some advice from the experienced bidders. I am trying to get a room in Philly for 3 nights over President's Day weekend, 2/12-2/15. I want to stay in Downtown and am hoping for the Hilton Garden Inn or the Holiday Inn in Old City. (I know nothing is guaranteed and we'll be happy with any option for a good price). I tried bidding yesterday on a 3* at $45 and got rejected. My friend just tried it at $50 and got a message saying to increase the bid by $14 to $64 to win. I've read here before that this means that if I bid somewhere in between these two prices of $50 and $64, I should be able to win. My question is...should I try $55 or $60 to guarantee this win? Thanks so much! (Yes, I'm using this site's PRICELINE links to bid).
  11. I did it for a friend, so I don't have access to her account. But it said gym, restaurant, and internet I believe.
  12. Got Hotel Reserve for 5/14-5/17 Thurs-Sunday. $107. Regular rate $200-300 depending on where you book.
  13. Was bidding on Downtown Memphis area for one night of November 13, 2008. Tried $75 for 4 star, then $78 for 3.5 star with no luck. Then added 3-star and got the Doubletree for $80. Price on various sites varies from $114 to $165 per night for this night at this hotel. Reviews are mixed. It seems to be a converted Radisson Hotel. Reviews are mostly great 4.5/5 on Expedia, Orbitz, etc, but very iffy on TripAdvisor.com. We're only there for 1 night and planning to go out on Beale Street, so I think it'll suit our needs fine. Calling right now to see if we can get a room with 2 beds - I've had luck at other hotels with that. Used the PRICELINE link from this site. Thanks.
  14. I won a hotel in San Diego once, and they downgraded it by half a star a month later. Then I got an email from Hotwire giving me $25 in credit for a future purpose due to the inconvenience.
  15. I would NOT recommend staying at Hotel Angelino. You won't be able to walk anywhere if you stay there. I would also NOT recommend splitting up your stay. It's not worth it unless you're staying for over a week. Locals drive between all the tourist-visited areas without issues. It takes 10-40 mins to get between them, depending. In terms of things you want to do, you really need to do some research on all the different parts of LA. The city is huge and spread out. You should plan to rent a car to explore it, especially if you plan on going to Six Flags which isn't even in LA (it's a 45 min drive away). Hollywood itself takes an hour to see. It's a touristy spot with a few blocks of stars on the sidewalks, a mall, etc. This is where nightclubs are too, if that interests you. West Hollywood is a more upscale area 10 mins west. It has restaurants, bars and lounges, and more of the LA feel you probably think you'll see from watching tv. Hollywood is more grungy. Santa Monica is by the beach and a great area to be in the summer and in September. The weather is cooler and more pleasant and it's a gret vibrant area with lots of shopping, restaurants, and bars. You can read more about LA at guidebook sites like www.frommers.com/destinations/losangeles. This is one city where you need to do research on where to go and what to see before you come.
  16. Well, Hollywood itself consists of only a few blocks. So that takes an hour to see. Santa Monica takes a while to walk around and enjoy. It's a place where you strol and enjoy various areas, outdoor cafes, shops, beach, etc. You can spend a full day there easily. However, you will probably also want to see West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and surrounding areas that most tourists see. And Venice Beach near Santa Monica. So altogether, if you have a car to commute between these, it takes 2 full days at minimum. 3 would be best. If you don't have a car, you'll need to add more time for commuting. Getting from Hollywood to Santa Monica by bus takes an hour and often 2 buses. Given what you wrote above, I would recommend you do some research to figure out exactly what you want to see in LA. You'll have a very short time, so you'll have to just pick one area and stick to it.
  17. - It's not too early to bid - There is no central area as mentioned. Beverly Hills or Westwood would be most central to see the areas you mentioned. However, you should consider where you will spend most of the time and whether being able to walk around the hotel is important, as that's not always the case. - I would NOT recommend splitting up your stay for only 4 days. These commuting distances are NOT anything to worry about. Most of us locals live in and commute between them on a daily basis. Avoiding traffic hours of 8am-9:30am and 4-6:30pm on weekdays is key and you'll be fine. It will be much more hassle to pack, unpack, etc in such a short time. You'll waste precious time you can use to enjoy the city. - I don't know what you mean by "very nice" in terms of the hotel, but for $125 you can get a 3 star in a relatively good area. You'd have to bid closer to $150 to get something higher than that in a nice area. - Palomar just opened recently. They're advertising a $179 special on travelzoo.com right now. Westwood is a fine area to stay. It's right by UCLA though school won't be in session yet. There are lots of shops and restaurants around. - If I were you, I would try for the Holiday Inn in Santa Monica which you can usually get for around $100 here. It's right in the middle of everything and near the beach. You can also win the Sheraton Delphina for a bit more, a few blocks further from the beach, but still a good location. If you decide to stay inland, then Hyatt on Sunset Strip is a good deal at around $120 here. - Keep in mind parking rates. Most hotels in touristy areas charge around $15-30 per day. Good luck.
  18. It sounds like there is a convention in town. Chicago is a big convention town in the summer. 4th of July weekend is a holiday weekend, so these conference hotels with 2000+ rooms tend to go empty, i.e. results in an easy win on Priceline (for example Hyatt Regency is one such hotel shows up here often).
  19. Have been trying various combinations for River North, Loop, and Lincoln Park areas up to $85 and as low as 2.5 star for the weekend of 7/18-7/20 (2 nights) for the past few days. No luck. Went up to $90 (and only selected 4 star and up) and got the Hyatt Regency. Happy with the win. Lowest price on their website for that weekend is $219.
  20. That's a good deal. This weekend is tough due to Bay to Breakers on Sunday and some conference during the week. We couldn't get anything for 5/15-5/18 except 2* for $115. It must be those Friday Saturday nigthts at the Holiday Inn making it tough.
  21. Agreed. Skip the car. Don't need it here. Public transit is good and cabs are cheap compared to crazy parking prices. Fisherman's Wharf is overrated. I would stay at Union Square as mentioned.
  22. Yes, it's listed as the Cathedral Hill zone on PRICELINE, though it's more like Lower Nob Hill/Tenderloin in my opinion.
  23. You won't. We tried everything and the best we could get was the 2* Air Travel Hotel at $115. Tried 2.5* and up up to $127 and nothing.
  24. UPDATE: We decided to lower the bid to 2* and won! Got the Air Travel Hotel for $115 ($100 and $110 didn't work). It's not the most amazing deal, but I wasn't expecting one for this weekend. This hotel is newly remodeled and the reviews are good. Everything is basically brand new and looks more like a 3 star, which is very nice. Plus, there is free wireless and breakfast. The only downside is that it's basically around Tenderloin, but we don't really care. It's not that big of a deal. This area is within a few blocks from Union Square and BART. My friend lives a few blocks away and she's a single girl. Never had a problem. The cheapest I was able to find this hotel was on CheapTickets for $129 per night after their 25% off special. Considering the situation, we're perfectly happy.
