  1. For two nights, 8/10- 8/12, 2 adults, my sister is looking to take a trip to Newport and is considering the following on hotwire, but can't figure out what hotels these might be. 3.5*, $149, Newport-Middletown-Jamestown, Amenities include: Smoke Free Rooms, Pool, Business, Golf, Firness, Restaurant, Hi Speed Internet. or 2.5*, $106, Newport-Middletown-Jamestown, Amenities include: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Laundry, Fitness, Business, Hi Speed Internet. Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated.
  2. Indeed it was the Jurys! So, clicking the HOTWIRE link at top of page doesn't give you credit?
  3. I was checking the travel dates 4/24 to 4/28 on hotwire for a friend and came across a hotel I haven't seen before: (For $165) 4*, Boston Common-Theater District, Customer Favorite Amenities include: Smoke Free Rooms, Restaurant, Hi Speed Internet Access, Fitness Center, Business Center. It gets a 4.5 out of 5 Trip Advisor traveler rating with 320 plus reviews. All signs point to the Jurys. What do you think?
  4. Oh Hammer, you are so naughty! Unfortunately, we can't go to any June games because we have two family weddings to attend. Good idea though! :)
  5. For one room, two nights: 7/25/08 to 7/27/08 I bid $85 for 4* Copley, rejected Added free rebid zone, bid $90, rejected Added free rebid zone, bid $95, rejected Added free rebid zone, bid $100, accepted Westin Copley Place Well, it looks like today was my day to strike it rich in Westins. First a winning bid on Hotwire for Baltimore, now one for Boston on Priceline. I was testing the waters, going no higher than $100 and that's what I got. I was surprised. Hotwire doesn't even have a 4* Copley listing right now for those travel dates. I do not like the 4* Downtown-Charlestown zone on Priceline. There are too many diverse offerings and locations. There really should be a Quincy Market Zone. I did not want to wind up with the Millennium Bostonian in Quincy Market, which is why I stuck with Copley. This is for a Red Sox v. Yankees game and Copley is a great location. Last year we got the Marriott Copley Place on Priceline for a Sox game and it was fabulous. Looking forward to the Westin. I started through Savingsbarn.com
  6. Thanks Thereuare, Everyone was surprised we ended up in a 4* hotel considering what prices are for this time period. And they are thrilled with the price. So my reputation in these circles as "The Travel Queen" is still intact. ;-) We don't need any more rooms. Others had arrangements already in place, so we only needed the four. Now I'm looking for a room for our Fenway, Boston trip (Just hubby and me)....but that's for another thread in the near future!! This year I am spending my vacation time going to Red Sox games. I've got the fever.
  7. Success! The 4* mystery Baltimore BWI Airport Hotel is indeed the Westin BWI. Amenities are: Shuttle, Pool, Fitness, Business, Restaurant, Internet Access. I booked four rooms for a two night stay, 5/30/08 to 6/1/08. This worked out fine as others in our group have other lodging options. The price was $85 a night per room. Which I think is a good rate (On Westin's own site, the lowest room rate for that date is $149). There is a 3* $59 a night option on Hotwire also at BWI for the same dates. It looks like the Hilton Garden Inn and that would have been our Plan B if I couldn't get four rooms at the Westin. One reason I did not try Priceline for this trip is we have some kids going and needed a couple rooms with more than one bed. Reviews for this hotel are very very good. So everyone is pleased. I used Betterbidding's HOTWIRE link to start.
  8. Thanks for the tips. I feel more comfortable with the airport area! I got a map and it has the light rail route on it, so I think the 4* that I'm looking at might be good. Now I have to get everyone else on board and as Thereuare warns, we have to be prepared that we may not all get rooms here. I will definitely use the Betterbidding HOTWIRE link if we go in this direction. I'll let you all know how this plays out.
  9. I am planning a road trip with others to Baltimore to see a Red Sox v. Orioles game. We are looking for approximately six rooms. (Some one bed, some two bed.) Check in date: Friday, May 30, Check-out June 1. Two night stay. My first inclination was hotels near Camden Yards and Inner Harbor. Many places are already booked and unavailable. Others like the Hampton Inn were quoting me $329 a night. This is prime time apparently. The Renaissance in the Inner Harbor (a mile form the park) offered me $229 per room (choice of two double or one king bed). My gang is saying to find lower price if possible. Some in our party are not the best mobility-wise (one is legally blind), so if we stay outside the ballpark area we need to be able to drive in or have user-friendly public transportation. None of us have ever been to Baltimore before. So I am trying my best. I looked on Hotwire and found a 4* hotel at BWI Airport for $84, amenities include: Shuttle, Pool, Fitness, Business, Restaurant, Internet Access. At first I thought this might be the Four Points Sheraton, but it doesn't seem like a perfect match. Can anyone help with identification or best guesses? The price is right on this. But my next question would be how easy would it be to either drive from here to Camden Yards or get public transportation in? According to my research so far, I have read reviews that say the airport is a 15-minute drive or 25 minutes via "light rail." Neither seems bad to me.... I am open to all help and am not stuck on the airport area....any other neighborhoods I should be targeting that would be convenient??? The game is a 7:05 p.m. game and we will be out I am guessing around 10 ish. Thanks!
  10. Yeah, I'm thinking the Westin might be fine for them if they don't want the Marriott. It's nearby. I remember seeing it in July. Just disappointed the Marriott isn't on hotwire.
  11. Hi all, In February, I'll be coming to Boston for a convention at the Marriott in Copley Place. Years past, this event was held at the Boston Park Plaza, but the convention needs more room. My husband and I stayed at the Marriott Copley Place this past July
  12. 1. I loved walking the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Great views, great exercise, and it's free. 2. I would love to do the Hula at a luau at Paradise Cove in Hawaii.
  13. I guess my question isn't striking a chord in anyone. :) I have used the Airline Checker feature on this site, and so far have come across round trip flights from Boston to Belize with two stops for around $620. Same type flights are in the $700 range from Providence. If the kids go directly from LGA in New York it would cost in the $500 range plus they would save a stop. It appears flights to Belize leave from Charlotte, NC and Philadelphia on this given travel date. Anyone have any tips of other resources or sites I should look at to compare airfares? We are talking poor college students here who are trying to use their spring break to help others. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for posting that win. Rates lately are just crazy
  15. Hi all, My daughter and some other college students are thinking of going to Belize City over Spring Break to do volunteer work at an elementary school. Once they land in Belize the program and lodgings are set. The one thing the students have to arrange for themselves is their flights. There are about 7 going right now and there may be a total of ten. They all want to travel together. This is the information I have so far, but my daughter is checking to make sure it is correct. Let's say 10 people: Departure date: March 7, 2008 Departure cities: Boston or Providence would be the closest to their college which is located in Norton, MA Return date: March 16, 2008 Departure city: Belize City Any guidance and trips are most appreciated! Thanks
  16. Those are amazing deals... I'll take the Grand Hyatt at those prices any day.
  17. One thing I've found in bidding New York City hotels is that when it is a busy or high demand time of the year, the prices on priceline/hotwire stay very high until the week of the trip. For example... take this past weekend. Sept. 20 - 24 was an expensive stay (Around $400 - $500 for a 4* hotel through hotels' own Web sites). One person I knew was bidding priceline for three weeks before this week up to $250 with no success. This past week, she bid $230 and got the Sofitel. A nice deal for one of NYC's top ranked hotels (#3 on Trip Advisor). Another person on this board, GoTech, had a reservation for a 3* hotel (Warwick) at around $379 a night. Couldn't find any other deals...then this week up popped the 4* Westin on hotwire for $202 and she scooped it up. From my experience, if you don't get a good deal bidding in advance then you need to stop. Things may turn up but it will likely be last minute. That's why, as stated above, it is imperative to have a fully cancellable back up hotel reservation in place. It is better to do that than jump at something expensive right away. Two other things to check out..... Hotwire has a feature called Ticker and Priceline has a tab called Pricebreakers. Both offer specials. A few days ago Pricebreakers offered a special for $195 and directed people to bid that amount of a 4* hotel in midtown west, NYC. The time period was good from 9/21-9/24. A great deal that popped up at the last minute. Patience.... 'tis a virtue.
  18. I know I am going to sound like an old fogey but I still can't believe we pay for water these days. Like candy in the mini bar, the water on the nightstand always looks dusty and old. To Hotel Management: Provide it for free or forget about it. Charging for water is not appreciated by anyone in any way. Just put it in your vending machines and be done with it already.
  19. Give the Westin a little time to process the transaction from hotwire. Then you can call them and (very nicely) request bed type, floor preference (higher) and smoking or non- smoking. Although they may not be able to guarantee your requests, you can ask them to note it on your reservation for the check-in clerk. When you check-in confirm your requests (nicely again) with the clerk before you sign in. Let them know if it is a special occasion, etc...
  20. Congratulations Gotech! What was the purchase price, $199 a night? (That is an excellent value for a terrific hotel.)
  21. I'm planning a trip to New York City, and just used this feature. It really helped me cut to the chase. I am going during a busy time, and so far no one is successful for my travel date on priceline. It saved me an hour or so of scouring the New York board. Nice feature. Thank you!
  22. There is a hotel in midtown Manhattan called The Travel Inn. I think (but I am not positive) that they have free parking. I quickly checked their Website and for your travel dates they have a double double room (two double beds) for $250 a night.
