  2. Mayfair Soho- Tried unsuccessfully for weeks to bid on Priceline Sept 8-12 , then determined that to get a better rate I would need to split up / alter the nights - Tried to get 9/10-13 on PRICELINE, bid up to $185.00 not accepted Went to Hotwire, found 5* those dates for $176 - and was happy to get the Waldorf Hilton. Very near Covent Garden and Theaters. $600 for three nights vs $1300 listed rate. Quite happy! Decided to go to Windsor and Bath on the 8th and 9th, so may be bidding on Heathrow hotel and rent a car! Bid through the HOTWIRE Links here. Thanks better bidding :)
  3. I thought I would get the Maui Prince in this zone so I bid low and was accepted for the 1 night. Stayed here before, kind of Zen, and beats the heck out of the 2* Castle maui resort the company travel agent had originally booked for $170 per night - in Kahalui no less!! MP for $135 (total with fees =160) is a deal, and hey the nude beach is just to the left!! :) PS-when I had put in the $135 bid, I got the "your bid has virtually no chance of being accepted" blurb from Priceline - and it was the first shot.
  4. Win Calendar indicated that 5 * Mayfair Marriott Grosvners house was won at $135 the week before. (love the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins!) Bid strategy 5 star - Mayfair - first bid $160 night , not accepted added Bayswater (no 5 star), upped to $165, then got counterbid offer for $185 As I have lots of time left, decided to try again later. tried through the PRICELINE link of course!
  5. I stayed at this hotel last year, it was nice. You got a great deal! The breakfast was pricey but good. The best Tapas bar in the area is around the corner, cant remember its name!
  6. bid $90 for 4* Paris (Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West) have been watching Paris, and for a true 4* would expect to pay close to $300 night, so PL came back with $128 in this zone, we took it. Probably could have done as well in a better zone, but as this is a business hotel with metro close, we know there will be elevator, hot water and AC if needed! Also looks like easy airport access. Sometimes modern trumps atmosphere. :)
  7. Hi, I grew up and live in the southern Cal coastal area so here are a few of my favorites- (I also have kids) #1. Laguna Beach - artist colony type town, small main beach with boardwalk and playground area, but very popular and will be crowded in summer. Great restaurants, lots of atmosphere, cool area, south of Newport Beach. Mostly small hotels, some very pricey, make sure there is parking at the hotel. If money is no object stay at the Surf and Sand, eat on the water at Splashes. Eat lunch at Splashes even if you dont stay there. From Laguna, make day trip to Dana Point Harbor. There is a marine center where kids can do hands on sea creature things and also a small area we call baby beach that is protected from waves. For a treat, between Laguna and Dana Point is the Ritz Carlton hotel. Go have a drink there at Sunset, listen to the piano player,..........ahhh the good life. #2. San Clemente- Historic beach town, nice small downtown area, more hotels to choose from. Many beaches, T street is a favorite with kids, has bathrooms and snack bar. Bring lots of quarters for the parking meters. There is a "Timeshare" San Clemente Cove which rents out 1 & 2 bedroom units that are right across from the main beach and pier. If you want a real CA experience- ask for directions to "Old Mans" Beach, get there about 4 pm, bring dinner, beachtowels, folding chairs and firewood (+alcoholic beverage of choice) watch the old guys surfing then have a sunset and a bonfire. The best. #3. Huntington- Surf City, huge and commercial. Just visit there, dont stay. #5 Newport Beach, Not really a beach, mostly a high end shopping experience, not for kids, but there is a "fun zone" on Balboa island that kids like. Bring lots of money if you go here. Basically, you can reach all the Beach Towns cruising up and down PCH (Pacific Coast Hwy) Have a great time. PS- Disneyland- Anything you want to know? We go there once a month at least
