  1. Quick stay summary: Please change to previous post that this hotel does not have free breakfast but they do have free coffee. The cost of breakfast is around $6.95 for continental breakfast or $10.95 for hot breakfast. Free shuttle to Woodfield mall. Very friendly staff and clean rooms. this hotel is next to the MillRose restaurant good for Sunday Branch and lunch, dinner. [for MOD] Also, note that the 3.5* Sheraton Chicago Northwest hotel in Schaumburg zone is closed last year.

  7. Hyatt Regency Woodfield (Dec/2004) Room: (8/10)
  8. Hyatt Deerfield (Aug/2004) Room: (8/10) - New, large, modern style mini suite room. Reasonably quiet but there is still some highway traffic noises can be heard if room is facing the highway. Room is very clean and decorated with quality furniture. TV cable channel includes both HBO and Starz . Facility: (8/10) - Parking lot is a little too dark. Nice lobby. Fitness room has several cardio equipments and a set of dumb bells. There is also a sauna, whirlpool and indoor pool. Wifi Internet access cost $9.99 for 24 hours access. The hallway has very bright lamps (too bright). Service: (8/10) - Friendly staff and prompt check-in. Prompt room service. Restaurant: (7/10) - Buffet style breakfast I had has good selection of items and friendly service. Location: (6/10)
  9. Hyatt Regency McCormick (Aug/2004) Room: (6/10) - Very basic room facility for this hotel. Room and bath room are relative small and cheaply decorated. Hallway was very noisy as the sound insulation was not sufficient. Facility: (4/10)
  10. Hyatt McDonald Lodge (Jun/2004) Room: (6/10)
  11. Hyatt Lisle (Jul/2004) Room: (6/10)
  12. Hyatt Rosemont (Jun/2004) Room: (7/10) Room is clean, quiet and new. Room size is not very large. Most rooms are the same size. Even though this hotel is close to the O'Hare airport but it is pretty quiet. From the room, there is no particular good view since this hotel is neither tall nor near any popular attractions. Facility: (6/10)
  13. I had the SGS card last year. For non-Thai native, the price was higher (I think 9900 bahts for foreigner vs. 6000 bahts for Thai people). It was well worth the price and it included a free Starwood privilege card (not this year). The Westin Gold Card can be purchased with out Thai citizenship nor a Thai working permit nor a domestic address. I don't think the hotel is aggressively pushing this card. It is likely used to counter similiar card offer by other hotels.
  14. Check my post about "the Westin Gold Card" deal. Westin Gold Card
  15. For some of our Westin Grande Sukhumvit lovers, there is an excellent deal called "The Westin Gold Card". I have only seen sales brochure at the Kisso Japanese restaurant but you can request a copy at the front desk. Althought it said for it is by invitation only and must have Thai work permit but they will allow anyone to purchase. Basically, it is a package that includes 1 free night plus 4 discounted nights deluxe room(for 2800 bahts / VAT included) total 6,500 bahts. Also included are these discount vouchers. Qty Voucher 1 1 free night w/breakfast buffet for 2 4 1 night deluxe room for 2800 Baht/net 1 Complimentary buffet lunch for 2 at the Med 1 2 Complementary Ajisai Set - Japanese Lunch Set Lunch (excl beverages) at Kisso 1 1 Complimentary afternoon Tea for 2 at Zest Piano Bar 1 Complimentary 2 drinks @ Zest Piano Bar 1 Complimentary 2 drinks @ Horizons Sky Lounge & Karaoke 2 Complimentary Karaoke Room & 25% disc off food and beverage @ Horizons Sky Lounge 6 Westin Gym Complimentary Free Trial (M-F 6:00-17:00 only) 4 3 hours meeting room rental @ the business center 1 5% off for party over 300 persons held in the Ballroom of the WGS 1 25% off on an annual membership @ the Westin Work Out Also, the card entitles you up to 50% discount on meals at Westin Grande and 25% discount on spa and laundry. Call 66-0-2-651-1000 or email [email protected] I have used it and upgraded to a corner suite with my SPG platinum status card (although they said status room upgrade was not possible). Although the room discount coupons have a 14 days advance reservation requirement but I was able to use them on the same day I purchased them and used for 5 consecutive days. Even with just the free room and discount room rate, the room cost comes to 3360 bahts per night (net) for 5 nights. This is better than priceline deal in most of cases. Bonus: you can access WiFi at the 7th and 8th floor for free. The SGS across the street has similiar deal before but now it is not as attractive anymore...
  16. Hi Chris26WI, Since the 5* PL price has gone up and difficult to get. I have used the Presidental Serviced Apartments (Grand, Royal, Solitaire, etc...) mostly of these are located around Sukhumvit area. The room rate starts from 2200 bahts (Royal Pres/exec studio/no abf/tax included). The room size are usually larger and some rooms are better than than Marriotts and Westin. You can check www.asiatravel.com for rates.
  17. This reply may be a little late for the original poster but may be beneficial for others. Since this early flight (UA?) 7:00AM is so early in the morning so the infamous Bangkok traffic is nearly non-existant so most of the hotels should be OK as the travel time/fare will not vary too much. Make sure you ask the taxi driver to use meter or get a confirmed price before you get on (note that toll charge is usually not included in the taxi quoted price).
  18. I won a bid finally for Jan 4th night for $34, bid on Dec 29th. Offered at $28 and $32 were rejected. A counter offer was given but I rejected. Looks like it is not likely to get $28 price anymore. Better bidding site was down at that time.
  19. Start with 5* 9/17 $60 Sukhumvit zone - rejected. Upped to $65 added Riverside - Rejected. Upped to $75 added Silom zone - Accepted. Westin Sukhumvit. Since this is weekend so looks like now the weekend rate is up to $75 also. Looks like it is also not easy to get Shag for $65 on weekend also. On a second bid for 9/18. Started with $70 5* Suk and was rejected. Priceline counter with $22 increase to gain a second chance but refused. Added Silom zone and upped to $75 - Accepted by Westin again. -- Hey, LHFlyer how did you get this weekend for $60?? Supposly there is a Jewelry show in Bangkok. I could not get room at most of 4/5 star hotels and ended booking Plaza Atheree for $90 using Orbitz.
  20. Started witn Sukhumvit zone 5* for $60 - Rejected. Added Riverside zone and upped to $65 - Rejected. Added Siam Square zone and stay at $65 - Rejected. Finally, added 4* for all 3 zones and got Lotus Novotel. This is not a great deal but it is worth a shoot at the 5* Sukhumvit. I will see how bad this hotel really is.... :)
  21. I was using separate bookings to take advantage of the promo for each bid (regardless of nights). This do incur potential undesirable result like this but I also don't want to stay at the Holiday Inn if it turn out to be the hotel I got. I never did see an offer for adding additional night on priceline. I just did a little look around but did not find it. Is it still available or it is a selective offer?
  22. Bid $45 for 4* Riverside - Silom and got Marriott Resort and Spa. It accepted on first try. The same price/zone bid for next day ended up in Holiday Inn :)
  23. Thanks for the feedbacks... I stayed at this Holiday Inn one night last year and also received welcome drink ticket. I don't think I got fruit plate last year. I was inquiry about the Internet access in this hotel and was told that there are 2 towers in the hotel, the front tower(elevators closer to the lobby) have in-room wireless internet access. The other tower, which I got last time and this time, don't have in-room Internet available. The Internet access in the business center cost 8baht per minutes (plus tax and charges). The mentioning about the different towers lead me to think that one tower may be newer but I also saw people dropping off their room keys so I am not certain which tower is better. BTW, I asked about the best rate they can offer while at the check-in desk and they told me that US$79++ for the no Internet accessible tower and US$89++ for the Internet accessible tower. $10 more for in-room Internet access (instead of 600bhat to sign up inside a room). Since I am not priority reward member (did not even sign up). I did not even get news paper. I was a little surprised the the welcome drink is not given to all guests. I was told that Internet booking stay will not earn stay credit for priority reward. As a comparison for priceline stay, I also got fruit plate at the Marriott Resort but probably because I have a silver elite status with them. I just got an upper floor south tower room this time. Last year, I got a mini-suite (corner room) with my priceline stay. The Shangri-La is a nice hotel but not very convienent locationwise. It was nice that Golden circle members can upgrade to a suite (2 rooms) for $25 before April this year but now it is $75. I really like their breakfast buffet, which I think is the best I had in BKK. :)
  24. Bid $45 and hoping to get Marriott Resort and Spa but got this hotel instead. This hotel should be at least 1/2 star lower rating than the Marriott for the smaller room and fewer amenities but the free welcome drink and fruit plate are nice amenities even for this priceline stay without any frequent stay status..
