Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Restaurant This hotel gets a bad review sometimes because it is in need of some updates, but it's in a great location and has great character. It has the feel of a little European hotel that most chains don't have. Drawbacks: Only one elevator, rooms need updating, rooms drafty in the winter, room can be small, each room only has one bed. Pluses: Free WIFI in lobby, friendly staff, great location. My friend and I started out with a GREAT corner suite with a separate sleeping and living area, TWO bathrooms, a GIANT queen bed, and a pull out love seat. I thought I had a great find and couldn't believe that people had written bad reviews for this hotel. The suite had plenty of windows, which I loved......UNTIL my friend and I woke up from our naps and it was FREEZING in the room - literally like 60 degrees in the room. After numerous calls to the front desk all they could tell us is that the heat was working fine...and chalked it up to the cold weather and the amount of drafty windows and requested another room....where we got DOWNGRADED. All they had was a small room with only one double bed and a smaller bathroom. The room was musty smelling, but it was WARM. Uncomfortably, we stayed one night, but after checking Hotwire again I found I could get the W on Lakeshore for just $23 more!!! The front desk manager kindly said she'd notify Hotwire of my refund for the unused night and we checked out and moved over to the W. I did get my refund for the unused night, but I had to call Hotwire after a couple weeks and they had to call the hotel to verify my refund - which was done promptly.
