  1. I got all excited when I read that 2* COS North yielded the Towne Suites hotel for $30. We all know that someones good fortune doesn't always pass on to the next bidder (like the LA Quinta Palm Sprins $25 deal). Best Western Pikes Peak Inn 2-star Check-In Date: Saturday, October 7, 2006 Check-Out Date: Monday, October 9, 2006 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.71 Total Charges: $73.71 After reading Trip Advisor, I'm not happy. Such is life. FYI, Expedia has this hotel at $49. The hotel website is $69. Good thing is they have Cont breakfast in October. Also, close to all key visitor sites. Win some. Lose some. :)
  2. I got the same deal March 9-12. Seems a few others got in on this too! :) Bid via Savingsbarn.com Dan
  3. Check reports for the Hyatt in Jersey City NY. Sometimes good P/L rates are available. It's a short ride on the PATH train into Manhattan.
  4. Good reminder. You should always read the fine print. One more thing... 20,000 points in the Choice program convert to 4000 airline miles in a variety of airline programs. Good way to top off an account.
  5. Last year I used my Marriott points (earned from the credit card offer) at a Marriott affiliated property. Such as: Courtyard, Renaissance Inn, Renaissance. You have some options. :) When you start adding up how much you're saving on hotel nights, these credit card deals become worth it. After the points post to your account (sign up for a free account), nothing stops you from cancelling the card. :) :o :)
  6. I just signed up for this deal. http://www.bankofamerica.com/choicehotels No fee. After first use of the card you receive 24,000 points. That's enough for 3 free nights at the 8000 point level. Properties include Comfort Inn
  7. No car upgrades in PHX unless I was willing to pay. :) Received a Chevy Cobalt that averaged 30 mpg. Looks like I did ok.
  8. AFter doing a little research, I found that Fox rental car offered the cheapeast rates for a compact car in Phoenix at $94 for a 6 day rental. The majors were in the $140. range plus taxes. My first bid was $12 for a fill size car. P/L countered at $18. Countered back at $14. Since I'm in no hurry.... Second bid was $14 for a standard. Last bid was $13 for a compact. Oh well. At least I'll get better gas mileage. :) Your Offer Price: $13.00 Budget Total Rental Days: 6 Subtotal: $78.00 Taxes & Fees: $64.59 Total Charges: $142.59 Booked through www.savingsbarn.com
  9. Mini vans were pricing out anywhere between $71-$90 on www.kayak.com I went to Hotwire; who was offering a mini van at $43. I know that you can usually do better with Priceline when armed with a little information. :) So, just for fun, I bid $27.00; and was denied. P/L did offer me a car if I was willing to offer $39. Still not a bad deal compared to Hotwire. I declined P/L's offer. I then opened a new window and bid $36. That offer was accepted! :) Westchester County airport (HPN) May 19 Hertz Mini van $36 plus fees. Booked through www.savingsbarn.com
  10. The Omni is a nice hotel. It's 2 blocks from 6th Street; which is where many of the clubs/bars are located. Free street parking overnight till 8:30am the following morning. I had a cert for an upgrade which they honored. Got a club floor room. The lounge has a nice selection of afternoon food (or dinner) :) , along with free drinks. The room and bathroom are 4*. I'd go back.
  11. You assume correct. :) FYI, Hotwire wanted $89.
  12. Just booked the Omni Hotel downtown Austin. 4* $60 per room, on the first try. Sunday December 11 for 2 rooms. I used www.savingsbarn.com to place my bid. The lowest price online at the discount hotel web sites was $109.
  13. Just as an FYI, I received 42 United Airline miles for this stay. Is it fair to say that this is what Priceline paid for this room? :) Dan
  14. I have to say that this property is consistent. I have 2 stays over the past 30 days here; and they gave me a room overlooking the front awning of the hotel. Not that I'm complaing. :) They also have free computers in their business center.
  15. It's mid-week; and I figured hotels would have a higher occupancy rate. Also, I usually use www.roomsaver.com for hotel stays in the area. Rates are still high till Sept 30. I used the $48 bid because if I recall correctly, that was the lowest rate for any available properties. And those properties would be rated 1 *. :) I feel I did good based on that.
  16. I bid 2* Albany airport $48. My first bid was accepted and upgraded to 3*. :) Albany Marriott $48 plus taxes/fees = $60.98 Tuesday night. Sept 6. I stayed at this property last time. Happy to head back.
  17. Try www.roomsaver.com Click on New York. Then click on Bing. Some discount hotels listed. Also, the I-81 corridor just north of Bing is loaded with cheap hotels.
  18. Just stayed here in August 2005. No complaints. Just what you would expect; and maybe a little bit better. FYI. No Honors benefits for Hilton Gold members. No breakfast certs.
  19. If you know your way around San Francisco; and have some extra commuting time, and don't mind taking BART, You can get 3* at San Francisco airport in the mid-$30's. This may not be a good idea if you're staying multiple nights and have to spend 30 minute plus commuting. I'm doing this for 1 night, then renting a car at the airport. I'll save on downtown parking fees too.
  20. Tried to rent a car at SFO (San Francisco Airport) for 2 days. Prices began around $32 plus taxes. I also used the car rental checker on the betterbidding homepage to check prices. I took a look at Howire; and they had cars at $28.95 a day plus taxes. I thought that I could do better. I did; but not by much. I started my bidding at $19, I used free re-bids up to $27. SFO airport August 8 Mon at 0830, with a return on August 9 at 5:00pm. Economy car with Budget. $27 per day plus taxes = $77.07 Win some, you lose some.
  21. I tried booking a room for August 26 Friday. This is a busy weekend in Albany as many of the local colleges have move-in day. I started bidding 3* at $49 for ALB airport, along with free re-bids; all the way down to 1* to include all areas in the various Albany zones. My highest bid got all the way to $63; and still no hotel was taking the bid in any zone. :) I've reported past bids at $50 and $62 on betterbidding in this area. Finally, rather than wait 3 days, I opened my Entertainment Book and made some calls. Did you know that the Crowne Plaza in Albany has a $65 rate available? :) I've stayed at this property; and it's 3* plus in my opinion. Thought you'd like to know.
