  1. trb I booked the Hotel Ibis Cambronne. It might lack some parisian charm, but the location is great and the price is the cheapest I have found for Paris. (based on a 21-day advance purchase rate)

I would have gone through PRICELINE but with the canadian dollar being so low it just wasn't worth it. Even if I could have gotten a hotel for $100 on PRICELINE once you factor in taxes, fees, and exchange rate and I would be about 50-60% more than this one.

haygar2389 if you can, please post your experience in the Hotel Reviews section of the site.

  2. This particular set of amenities doesn't match any of the hotels that have been reported to the board, and HOTWIRE doesn't list a tripadvisor traveler review rating for it either.

This one is a little difficult to narrow down since the amenities would match many of the 4* hotels in that zone.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Please use this HOTWIRE link if you plan on booking and let the board know the result.

  3. Rates change depending on availability so while using other people's wins as a barometer is a good idea, there are times that you wont get as great a deal.

You can typically get better rates on PRICELINE than HOTWIRE, but with HOTWIRE showing quite high rates for the 2-day rental it would lead me to believe that there might be a temporary shortage of cars available on those dates.

I personally haven't had any experience in asking for a downgrade but my opinion would be that they would if they could but are under no obligation. In this case, I think a downgrade might be an easier request to accommodate, but it is also a matter of if they can. I wouldn't bet on it though.

Have you checked with the rental companies directly to see how their rates for those dates compare with others? If they are generally higher then you know that you might have to bid a little more.

  4. Welcome to the board starstruck!

    Here are my guesses.

4.5* - Donovan House or The Madison. My feeling would be to lean more towards the Donovan because I am not quite sure the Madison is a Boutique hotel. Tripadvisor traveler rating as listed by HOTWIRE matches both of these hotels.

4* - Hotel Palomar. Amenties match a couple hotels listed to the board, but the tripadvisor traveler review rating listed by HOTWIRE matches this one.

3.5* - Dupont Hotel or Westin City Centre, but could also be Hotel Helix (off chance). There is not tripadvisor traveler review rating listed on HOTWIRE so it's hard to narrow it down.

Please use this HOTWIRE link to start your purchases and let the board know the result.

  5. Welcome to the board nichay!

In the Midtown West zone I am seeing a lot of recent 4* wins in the $110 range, which is just a little higher than what your budget is, and you're right, the 3.5* Sheraton in the Times Square area has actually quite a few recent wins around the $95-100 range.

So with that in mind, depending on availability on those dates, I think getting something close to your budgeted amount might be possible.

Have you used PRICELINE before and understand how the bidding process works? If not, I would suggest you read this thread Rebidding before 24 hours to get a feel for the process.

If you feel you have a good grasp of what is going on, post back and we'll try and suggest a good strategy for you.
