  1. Last minute, so I did not work too hard. Bid $45 in the MacArthur region, no luck. Then I started a new bid in Hauppauge and got the Sheraton Long Island for $60+.

I checked the rates for the zone and the Hyatt is sold out, while the Sheraton was showing $199 before the bid, and sold out afterwards.

Sounds like I got the last room. The Holiday Inn ISP lists for $139, but is such a bad property that I'm much happier with the Sheraton.

However, the Sheraton Long Island is no Hyatt Wind Watch!!

  2. Fantastic review, acetraveler.

I can only add a few things after my one night stay over the weekend.

My room was in good shape, did not seem 'tired' (maybe the improved things a bit since the last review).

I also ended up with a room far away from the elevator, not a big deal for me.

Took the Hoppa bus rippoff to go, used the free 'red bus' to come back. I found a bus stop pretty much on the same block, across the street from the Sheraton next door. Busses 285, 101, 111...take you to terminals 1,2,3 which is what I needed.

The only thing to add is that there is a night bus N9 which runs from downtown (Piccadilly circus...) to Heathrow and stops in front of the hotel. Although I did not try it, this is likely the only cheap option for those who want to go to a show and need to get back before the tube stops....

  3. $138 and change all in. Much better than the 295 CHF asked on their website. I may have overpaid, but I had only one shot and it was within 24 hours from checkin. The last failed bid one day earlier was $105.

The 40 CHF parking charge stinks, but I found a spot down the street in an industrial complex where I could park overnight.

32 CHF for 24 hrs of internet (or 10 CHF for 1 hr) is also a joke, but very common in Europe.

All in all a very good deal.

  4. After a long battle, where the highest rejected bids were $77 for 3* and $70 for 2.5* (both with a $22 counteroffer), my $83+ bid was accepted. It came to $103 and change all in. Beats the $229 rate on Marriott.com, and is a new entry on the forum's hotel list. I was really afraid to get the DT in Alsip, which was going for $139 online.

Keep in mind I was using both the millennium and north michigan avenue zones to rebid, although they technically are NOT rebids. I was ready to take a 3* in those regions for the price in case I got one: all bets were that the winning bid was going to be in the Midway region, and it did.

  5. I did my bidding at a 2.5* level. The HGI reported there is very nice....

Started at Macarthur at $40, added rebid at $43. Then restarted a bid Macarthur and Wading River at $45, got a counteroffer. Ignored and rebid again at $48. Got upgraded to the 3* Radisson, which is a pretty nice hotel and beats the Holiday Inn by a mile. $60 and change all in. This happened less than one hour from the 11PM cutoff time. When I checked in they showed me a folio with a $48 rate, not sure if it is what PL paid the hotel (and therefore this was the minimum bid needed) or not.

Note: USING WADING RIVER IS NOT A REBID!! !I was ready to go there if needed.

  6. Interesting bids, same day (actually 1-2 hrs from cutoff time, now at 11PM)

A group of 3 of us needed a room each.

I first bid on a 3* up to $60/ni for 3 rooms and was declined.

Then I moved on to 2.5* for one room, and was "upgraded" to the illegedly 3* Holiday Inn for $50 on the first try. (Off topic - this HI is really inferior to the Radisson, Hyatt or other 3* properties in the area - should be a 2.5*, but it has a restaurant and bar on premises.....)

Then I bid again for one of my friends, and tried 2.5* for $48, was rejected, so I upped to $50 and accepted at the HI.

Lastly, bid directly on a 3* for $50 and got a room for my other friend.

Bottomline, nogo for a group of 3 rooms, but ok for 3 bids on one room.

Could it be that PL would lose money if we combined the service fees into one bid??

    Happy travels.

  7. There are no rebids in this zone. I tried yesterday at $70 and got a counteroffer for $22. Waited 24 hours, and bid maybe a bit more that I should have, but the stay is tomorrow....so I went for $77, which came in at $93.08 with taxes and fees.

The coast sells for $159 on their website. Another option was the Hilton (apparenlty in this zone), which was $189 on their website.

The Coast is a new property in our list for this zone. Moderator: is it fair to add also the following 4* property in this zone to the CA list, based upon a tripadvosor report??
