  1. Anyone know if there's a daily "resort fee" at the Wild Dunes, over and above your daily rate? Thanks
  2. I hope it's acceptable to do it, this way... I forgot to update this with my winning bid info after the trip, so here it is: $70 ... 3/31/10-4/6/10 Plus $12.95 night "resort fee" (ridiculous, in my opinion, to charge people coming to a hotel with a pool and a beach a fee for using the pool and the beach, but... whatever! Great hotel, I thought. We got a nice room, but there's lots of potential for NOT nice rooms here, I think -- I wouldn't want one overlooking the pool because of the obnoxious music piped into the pool area at all hours. I wouldn't want one overlooking a rooftop. We got lucky and got a balcony overlooking the beach access road -- so, people-watching, trees, birds. Nice. Rooms ugly for my taste, but kind of luxurious, too. Great surroundings -- beach, bike trails, restaurants, good grocery nearby. Going back!
  3. 7/11/2010 - $49 I pay a VERY discounted rate, but still want a clean, safe, comfortable hotel. If I paid full price, my opinions would be MUCH lower (based on what I get for the $$). First, and I know this will sound silly, but I have to give Crowne Plaza's credit for their plumbing. They have EXCELLENT toilets (water-saving and still "powerful") and their showers are always really nice (nice shower curtain, shower head, etc.). The staff was a bit too perky for my taste. The location was convenient to the interstate but, if I was visiting Louisville, I wouldn't have like it. The hotel had an interesting looking covered outdoor pool and a fitness center, but I used neither. The room was very nice looking and comfortable, and the small bathroom with additional sink outside was nice. Nice armchairs for relaxing in. Slow elevators, and I absolutely hate hotels that have, essentially, a single entrance with long walks to your room (which this is). But -- nice hotel, overall. I was fortunate to get a room looking out on the pool area, and a parking space close to the door.
  4. 7/10/2010 $45 I liked the decor of the room, a lot, and I was fortunate enough to get a room with a window that looked out onto a big tree, and not onto a road or parking lot. It's a very big and busy hotel. The parking lot is huge and, if you come in at night and end up way out from the door, kind of scary. The decor was lovely -- nice lamps, nice leather chair at the desk, excellent television, STARBUCKS coffee in the room! Bathroom was small, but good enough for me. The common areas that I used (hallways, elevators) - not great, but just because the hotel obviously gets a lot of use (weddings, etc). I'm an extremely frugal traveler, and was GREATLY disappointed at the lack of free high-speed internet, in the room, and high charges for local phone calls.
  5. 7/6-7/10/2010 $38 / night. If I paid full price for this hotel, I'd be very disappointed. I'm learning that I don't like hotels where I have to haul my stuff up through a single entry door, lobby, carpeted hallways, elevator, down more carpeted hallways -- I like more/easier access from my car to my room. That aside -- I was usually able to find parking fairly close to the front door, each evening, despite the cars visiting the restaurant next door. The lobby looks glamorous, but that's not my thing. Nobody mentioned the free appetizers to me, but I never got in each evening to enjoy them, anyway. My first night there, the housekeeping staff had neglected to leave me enough in-room coffee, so I went down to ask for more -- and was told they only had decaf!! But -- they did have even better coffee in the lobby each a.m., for free -- just meant I had to get dressed to have my coffee. The room is odd -- very long and narrow, and the hi-speed wireless is barely accessible at all, and not at all accessible from the bedroom. The in-room refrigerator (thank you!) didn't have anything to hold your stuff on the shelves. The in-room safe was nice to have. The bathroom has a walk-in shower that's weird, but nice when you get used to it. The lighting about the bathroom sink needs improvement. The digital thermostat was a nice touch, but I could never figure out how to just turn it OFF, so I kept alternating between air conditioning and heating! The a/c wasn't working in the fitness center, the first day, but they fixed it immediately when told. The television in the fitness center stinks -- no remote control, and very hard to use, without it. The equipment was really nice, though -- sturdy, quiet treadmills, and a nice weight machine (plus some other stuff I didn't use). I like that they're trying to conserve electricity, but water conservation would've been nice, too -- the shower dripped. If I had kids, I think I'd be disappointed in the "water park." Not having kids, I was very disappointed in the pool -- didn't use it, but it just didn't feel like a good pool for exercising, with all the "fluff" surrounding it. Overall -- I was comfortable there for the few days I stayed. I was happy with it for the price that I paid.
  6. 7/5/2010 for $49. Disclaimer: I'm EXTREMELY cheap. I got this hotel for less than $50 / night and, so, was perfectly satisfied with it. The room was bigger than the last Fairfield I stayed in, and the windows actually opened slightly, which I love. The view out my window (back of the hotel) was of a nice pond/marsh (behind which was shopping and lights, but that's okay). I didn't use any of the facilities but the wireless (didn't work -- I had to use wired, but they loaned me the cable) and the breakfast (okay, but not great). Easy location, quiet, comfortable, clean room. Nothing to complain about!
  7. Well, I thought I'd done well getting $70 at the Hilton Head Crowne Plaza Resort -- until I just saw that someone else got $60!! I also messed up and did not notice, first, at least $12+ in daily resort fees, so it's actually going to be $82/day+. But I need a vacation, so that's okay. Did this on Priceline...
  8. I just bid and won a room at a Hilton Head resort in about a week and a half. I will post that bid soon (Priceline). It wasn't until after I bid that I realized I was going to be paying a significant daily "resort fee" (ripoff! but I'll do it). In part because of this additional fee, though, it's going to be really important to me to get a room that I'm happy with. When we check in, they know we're Priceline customers, right? Is it any kind of big Priceline policy "no no" to ask WHERE your room is, and to try to get one with a decent view? To change rooms after seeing your room? Are we "allowed" to do that, as Priceline customers (to, at least TRY) ? Thanks MK
  9. I, like Vayla, got the room for $45 for Sun-Thur, then $56 for a Friday night. I stayed in late October, 2007. PROS: Nice, quiet, comfortable room. Bed (sleep number bed) was downright luxurious. Starbucks for the in-room coffee maker. Room very clean every day. Linens were replaced daily (despite the hotel's signs saying they would conserve, if I was staying more than 3 days, by not washing daily -- and I would've actually preferred if they hadn't, but I think they weren't busy, so they did). The Wifi was great, and there's even a printer available, though I didn't use it. Breakfast was excellent, every day (scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc), right down to the jazz music piped in. Front desk was great about moving me to a second floor room, for safety. Housekeeping staff very friendly. In room safe is free to use (only charge is if you don't return the key), and will fit a laptop computer. CONS: The hotel is 2 stories, but LONG. There's only one elevator. I was glad I was not on the backside, which looks out over a car lot, with lots of lights. I never did try the pool or hot tub, mainly because the hot tub didn't look like it had much "flow" to it. My biggest problem with this hotel was that the manager didn't seem happy that he was hosting a Priceline customer. They had me checking out on Friday, not Saturday and, when I went to get it corrected, he initially acted like he couldn't help me.
  10. I tried to be methodical, after a few attempts to bid were rejected, and here's what happened: 7/23/2007 West 3 10/14 - 10/19 (sun-f) 44 Rejected but countered with $12 increase 7/23/2007 West, Southwest 3 10/14 - 10/19 (sun-f) 45 accepted! added to 10/20 for another $56
  11. I used a previous user's winning bid post on which to base a bid -- bid exactly the same way they did, but have been turned down about 3 times now, though I've bumped the bid up each time. Does it depend on the DATES of the stay (more demand = same bid won't win)? What variables might lead to a previous winning bid no longer being enough to win? Thanks for this site!
