  1. By the way, Priceline is showing a 5* in BH/West Hollywood -- is that certain to be l'ermitage? any idea on the bid amount to secure a 5* there?
  2. Aaron, I know you never know for sure on Priceline -- was askign to see if anyone had a knowledge of where the wins were coming form in this area lately. Still need to book this room...procrastinator! :)
  3. Hi there, we are looking for a special occasion hotel for Saturday night, 12/18. Does anyone have a feel for what hotels we'd be likely to get in this zone and level? We want to stay in a nice hotel in a fun area, NOT in century city I notice this zone is the only one with a 5* choice - anyone know what.hotel that is or if it is offering any.inventory? Thanks!
  4. Just documenting this after the fact... Used BB PRICELINE link and pricelined resort PS/Indian Wells area. went $56, then $61 and was offered $77 by the PL site. Disregarded and bid $66 and won. Got Hyatt grand champions -- they seem to be the go to hotel in that area right now as they are remodeling their lobby. Had a great stay - the adult pool there is very nice. Just an FYI for other bidders.
  5. Just logging this...we needed a place to stay in central coast on Sunday, August 1st. Apple farm inn looked the best for our family of 4 and we used BB to see if it is a PRICELINE property. Seemed to be, but I bid up to $92 and didn't get it on PRICELINE. Went to HOTWIRE, rate was $102 and amenities seemed to match to BB hotel description, so we went ahead and booked -- got it. Hotwire is a little safer when traveling with 4 as you can put in that you have 2 kids and are assured of getting a 2 bed room unlike bidding on PL. Amenities matched this description on the BB hotel list exactly: Boutique, Shuttle, Restaurant, Pool, Hi-Speed Internet, Golf, Spa Warm not hot deal, but the internet rate off the hotel web site was $189. Used the BB HOTWIRE link...thanks for the helpful content on the web site.
  6. No problem. Also, just for more nfo for other members, the room they gave us is the "spectacular room" with 2 double beds. You can see the rooms here: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/prop...propertyID=1153 I expect it will be stylish, but very tight. i believe these rooms ar eonly 300s.f. !
  7. I went ahead and booked it -- turned out to be the W Hotel in SOMA, not really Union Square. A pretty decent deal at $149 - lowest web prepaid rate for same room is $231.65, so about a $80 Savings. Yes, I used the BB HOTWIRE link - thanks as always for your help! :) Does anyone know of inexpensive parking options in the area? I was told by the hotel its $54 for valet or $30 for self parking with no in and outs. Neither sounds particularly good. Thanks again.
  8. Hi there, We are going to be in San Francisco for one night next weekend, husband, wife, 2 kids. Searched hotwire for 2 adults and got 2 4* hotel. Added 2 kids, searched again, got only one 4* with the following: fitness-pool-restaurant-business_ctr-hi speed internet - Can anyone ID this hotel? - Since I put in 2 adults, 2 kids are we guaranteed a 2-bed room to accomodate us? - Does anyone have any other recos for good hotels for a family in the city? We will be driving and I've heard parking can be up to $50. thanks!
  9. Just posting for anyone else who can find this of use. Started our PRICELINE bid from the betterbidding.com link banner -- we thank you for all the help you've given us on travel over the last couple of years! - Bid $59 on resort in Rancho Mirage... area. - Bid rejected, asked us to bid $74 - We did not do that, went back to redo our bid and added the free re-bid zone of Indio (they don't have resorts in that zone) - Bid $64 - Won Hyatt Grand Champions at $64. Best rate on their web site is $149. Now that we have this down, the entire bid process only took 10 minutes or so including our pre-research. Thanks again BB! One request: As someone who lives in southern cal, it would be really helpful to have palm springs as a separate subcategory in your forum. The other cities category gets really crowded and Palm Springs is a really popular destination here for which many people use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. thanks again.
  10. Sorry for the gap guys -- I must have forgotten to check the email replies box. I booked a room for $179 per night off their web site and based on what I was seeing for availability, I didn't feel confident in pricelining. There are currently no rooms available through their web site right now, so it seems sold out. Thanks for the help. I'd still like to reduce our outllay for this, so let me know if you have any ideas, but it doesn't look good.
  11. OK, am probably kidding myself that we will get a PRICELINE room over Memorial weekend, but here goes.... Target property: La Quinta Resort (Feedback: Does this seem to be the resort everyone is getting in this area?) Rack rate: Booked a cancellable backup off their web site for $179 AA rate, 2 Queens. $169 offered prepaid. Bids: today I used the BB link and bid Palm Desert 71-77-82 using the Indio and Palm Springs free rebid zones. No luck. Help Sought: - Is la Quinta the likely property we'll get wiht a win? - What's a realistic expectation for price on this weekend? - Will i have best resuls only right before the weekend or should I keep bidding during the week? Thanks BB!
  12. OK, just posted a follow up on the hawaii thread...sorry about that! We are staying from April 8-12. My wife and I plus two daughters ages 10 and 12. Desired star range would be 4-5 star (accounting for priceline star deflation) and under (way under if possible) 400 for either a suite with at least one bedroom or two adjoining rooms. Any way to subscribe to get updates when new posts are made?? Thanks!
  13. Just to follow up, we ended up trying the sheraton wikiki...big mistake. I recommend to avoid this place at all costs. The roooms were dirty and it just had a very ugly, depressing vibe. We begged out of that one and they allowed us to change to the moana surfrider since it is also sheraton, which is a very nice property! It's old, but very charming and we had a wonderful stay. High;ly recommended. post or Pm if you want more details.
  14. Hi there, My wife and I are taking our daughters ages 10 and 12 to NYC the 2nd week of March. I normally use better bidding and priceline to get lower cost rooms in NYC and need some advice. With the kids, we really need either a large room with separate bedroom or two rooms that would be adjoining. We currently have a cancellable and high priced room at a mid-town hilton, but my questions are... - Can anyone recommend a place wiht large rooms or that is otherwise kid and budget friendly? - If I priceline 2 rooms at a time, is there any way that they can be guaranteed to be adjoining? We simply can't do it any other way....we need space form them, but can't have them down the hall or on another floor. Any recos you have are much appreciated... thanks!
  15. OK, good to know. I'm glad we stayed with the sheraton 179 ocean view -- we definitely wanted to see water!
  16. Do you know what class of room you received. Ocean view or ? Thanks!
  17. 808, don't sweat it - you'll get it. here is the basic process you want to go through: - identify area you want to stay in - check the lowest rates on the hotel web sites in question so you'll know what a good deal is - make a cancellable backup reservation that you can live with in case PL does not work out. Pay careful attention as to when the cancel deadline is as you'll need to win PL before then - research and write down which are the free rebid zones for your target. you can use sites like these, but the bottom line is you'll want to verify on PL which star zones greay out for a given area as there might have been updates not yet documented. - identofy your bidding strategy base don your # of rebid oppties. if you want o max at 80 and ytou have 4 free rebids, you might want to start at $60 and add $5 each bid My advice? go for 4 start or resorts. The hotels in PL are often tired or toward the end of their upgrade cycles, so I've found the ratings are lower than actual. in other words, most 4 stars i get in PL are not what i would consider 4 starst if i was paying anything close to a normal price. For me, this also simplifies the rebidding as there are ususally many areas that do not have 4 stars or resorts. that might not be the case ina 3 star scenario. a lot of work, but i've gotten some killer deals this way. $49 4 star in palm springs, $145 4 star in nyc, etc. good luck!
  18. Hi there, We just tried some low rates on priceline and want to share info. Used the BB PRICELINE link for credit to this forum. Bid was for Waikiki beach. started at 81 and moved up $5 increments using free rebid zones to $101. No luck, but these are low rates. We have a $179 reservation for oceanfront at the Sheraton (Yes, despite my earlier thead - the offer was too good not to use as a cancellable backup...) and the last day to cancel is today. Views are important to us, but if we could save 300+ on a 5 night stay then we would take our chances. Any tips out there for a better deal?? We'd really prefer the Moana but can't seem to work any rates there. Thanks!
  19. Hi there, can you tell me how much your interisland flights were? thank you!
  20. I'm just fearful of construction noise, traffic and convention activity. When did you last stay there and what was it like? Original question: is the Sheraton coming up on PL or not? And. if so, do you get an ocean room or are you banished to overlooking construction?
  21. OK, this is a way past due follow up. We could never get the amenities to match up, so we ended up booking a special rate directly with Morgans. I believe the rate was 225.
  22. Hi there, We booked flights to Oahu on 12/9-12/14 and are now looking for rooms. It seems like the best options that people are winning are hilton hawaiin village or hyatt regency. *** However, we really DO NOT want the Sheraton. Any idea what the risk is of getting that one right now? Also, we see some great rates on other islands, especially the big island, which could make it worth it to pay for an island hop flight. any idea how to get the best deals on those short flights? Thank you! Ex-TOBB member who is leaving them due to their site being locked and snarky mods!
  23. Hi there, am new to this but compared the current 4* listings in MTS and MTE to the list on this site and can't get the amenities to match up. this is for a search of the night of 5/5 only. Can someone help or confirm the hotels? I'll throw the site some affiliate love by booking though the right links! :)
