After an unsuccessful bidding assault on PRICELINE, I gave up and got this deal on HOTWIRE.

It's more than I wanted to pay, but I need to be in this area and there just isn't a lot of availability.

Scored this on PRICELINE and was EXTREMELY happy. Merced was a hotel wasteland up until now--this is a great place and now the only place I'll stay when I go to Merced.

I just got off the phone with the Peppermill. They have an existing pool and another under construction, so I'm not sure why Hotwire isn't displaying the pool icon. They do not have tennis.

Spent one night at the Sacramento Hilton; it was our second stay there. Our $65 Hotwire rate got us a nice 2 double bed room on the 10th floor for HHonors guests. Checkin was very smooth. I was a little worried because there was a prom going on in the ballroom, but they were pretty contained and things were very quiet. The room itself was newly renovated, clean and very comfortable. Despite all the renovation and nice appointments, there was one very strange thing--the door to the bathroom was one of those horrible squeaky sliding pocket doors, instead of a door with actual hinges. The pool and spa were being renovated and out of commission. The gym was relocated to a meeting room on the 2nd floor; we didn't check it out. The new beds were very restful. We would stay here again.

Their website states the hotel is undergoing a $7 million renovation and will be completed sometime this summer. Estimated date for pool reopening is May 4.

Rate of $65 for 3 people, one night 4/21. I was hoping for the Doubletree since Tripadvisor says the Hilton's pool is being remodeled...but the Hilton it is. I stayed there two years ago and it was fine.

Amenties: fitness center, restaurant/bar, high-speed internet, tennis, pool (ha!) and business center. It's across the freeway from Arden Fair Mall.
