1. This hotel is just 6 weeks old. It is well managed with very friendly and helpful staff. Free breakfasts with omelets, fresh fruit, eggs, cereal ,etc. Very nice rooms and of course clean and modern. Microwave and fridges in room. I agree with the high ratings they get, a 9/10 hotel priced as 3.5*. It is also on an interesting street, 28th ...Manhattan's flower district: wall to wall florists.
2. Right now the Paul is listed as Chelsea, 3.5*, guest rating 6. I expect that rating to be falling. See yelp for others who were scammed. The desk agents lie and are very unpleasant, shouting at customers. The bellman was called over to throw me out. But instead, te bellman kept telling both of the receptionists not to yell (3 times). These two did not listen to me or the bellman.
3. If you bid on PRICELINE Name Your Own Price or PRICELINE EXPRESS there is no indication of the bunks. It just says "sleeps 2". As you will read on other reviews on the web, they commonly practice this deceit. Thanks for letting this review stand... another site would not list it.
4. I bought a 4 night stay here @$175 via Express. It is reputed to be a 3.5 star rating with a "6" guest rating. The room on both is listed as "sleeps 2". If you bid on Priceline or Express (for a hotel with these descriptors) what you will get is a room with BUNK BEDS. This is completely inappropriate for a 175$ hotel in Manhattan. I asked for a cancellation. They mumbled that Priceline had to request that. (I asked 3 times if they would cancel the room and they kept saying...Priceline must ask). ), and when I called Priceline they called the hotel. They promptly told the Priceline agent NO. To their shock, I happened to be 2 blocks away from them. So I confronted them about misleading me. What got from desk agents "Lucette" and "Mary" was a torret of abuse. I guess they do not often get caught lying. Good news is that Priceline was so shocked by the assignment of bunks, that they called the hotel back and they demanded that the reservation be cancelled. Many have complained about Priceline and cancelations, but I see that if you have a legitimate beef, they will respond, especially if you understand the problem before arriving. So thanks to Priceline for backing up their hotel ratings--who gives bunks in a 3.5 star hotel??? I hope the moderator will allow this warning to go out. I will be glad to share the cancellation notice I got from Priceline.
5. Tried MTE at $140 -no go. Added MTW at $145 and won. I would much rather stay on the east side, away from the swarming hordes in TS.
6. Tried bidding MTE 130, no luck, tried a day later MTE 140--got the Roosevelt. I was hoping to get Club Quarters Grand Central at $125 or so (like I have in recent weeks) but am happy with the result. I actually wanted two nights, but found I could only get 1. The second night is booked at the Sheraton Times Square at $145.
7. I did use your PRICELINE link. P
8. One bid and it was accepted. Someone else was paying for the room, otherwise I would have started lower. Happy with the location. The recent reviews on Yelp seem decent. The Roosevelt is my favorite, perhaps I will get it next time.
9. 1. Bid 100 for ME 2. Bi 105 for ME + MW 3. Bid 105 for ME, MW, CPS won Hudson Morgans Hotel
10. Bid once and won, posted hotwire rates start at about $35$
11. I had been trying for several days and had my bids rejected..priceline suggested a bid of 70$. I received a "bonus cash" email and used that: Discount: Save up to $30 on any Name Your Own Price® rental car. Save $3 per day for up to 10 days. So, perhaps my bid was really 25/day. In any case, keep trying...prices fall as you get to the target date.
12. I won on my first bid. I like this hotel so I am pleased. p
13. First try. I probably could have bid lower. I am disappointed did not get my fav--the Roosevelt--but it is an ok deal for 4 nights including a Friday eve.
14. Tried Cambridge 3.5* $70 rejected Tried Copley Square + Cambridge 3.5 $80 accepted
15. One tip to visitors to HR--try "Dishes" cafe for breakfast--on 45th street on the next block west of the hotel. Lots of interesting stuff to eat and not expensive--lots cheaper than the HR.
16. Another individual banned by the whim of the administrator of TOBB. p
17. First bid, and I won. I like the Hotel Roosevelt. 3.5*. But I guess I could have bid a bit lower.....
18. Today I tried bidding for a 4* hotel on North Michigan Avenue and on Loop/GP for $100. It was rejected. Following posted advice, I went to the EasyClickTravel site and found a room in the whitehall for $147.95 (with taxes). Any advice on how to beat this for a 4-star on NMA. Or should I be happy with the deal I got? Thanks for your help in advance. Phil in Rochester
