  4. Just got back from my trip. This was a great hotel. Located on the edge of Chinatown, blocks away from North Beach and a short bus ride to the wharf. We arrived and checked in. The front desk guy said he had us in a 2 twin beds room. I said "Do you have anything with one bed" and he said well, I have one single.. So I said, "what if I pay you something, what can I get" and he said they had some bayview king suites available but it would be $40 extra. I'm on my honeymoon so I figured what the heck and paid. Everything was settled and we ended up in a nice bayview king suite on the 22nd floor. Beautiful view with Coit tower in the middle, bay on either side of the hill, and chinatown stretching out below. Even though I was extorted $40, it was worth it for that view. The wife loved it :) Staff was very friendly, the bell staff gave us some restaurant recommendations which turned out great. The only complaint was when I called the hotel operator she was extremely snotty--but who knows, maybe she was having a bad day. All in all a perfect stay and a great buy. Shoot for this one if you can.
  5. Got back from my trip. Hotel is a very nice hotel but I ran into some problems straight away. The taxi guy out front was pretty rude and didn't help with the bags and he cursed at our cab driver (who was lazy, but hey). Then I tried the classic $20 tip to the front desk person and he made a big deal about it. It was pretty embarassing, he said he couldn't accept the tip, made a big stink, finally took it. Anyway, then he put us on the 34th floor in a king room. The only problem with the 34th floor is the corner rooms are level with the roof of the floor below. So we had a beautiful view of vent fans and chimneys and over the lip you could see the city a little. It was ok, but not the best. I don't think I'd stay here again, if I have a choice. It's like they treated me differently becauase I paid the priceline rate rather than the $450/night retail rate. It IS a good location, and they have a hip lounge at the 38th floor (top) but the service was subpar. It was a good room for the price, however.
  6. Hi, got back from my trip and I have to say it was great. This is a good hotel, with friendly people. I flipped the front desk a 20 during check-in and he put me in the best available room, a huge corner on the 6th floor with a great view of the city. Location is near the rougher tenderloin, but only in one direction. A walk north on Van Ness is perfectly safe at any hour. We walked to fisherman's wharf (downhill, mostly), and union square pretty easily. 2 blocks north on california is the cable car, and there are a lot of bus routes on Gehery and Van Ness. Cab fare from SFO was about 38.00 so it's in your interest to get a shuttle for around $10-15 a person, if you're a party of 2 or more. Great stay, would recommend this hotel.
