  1. I love Priceline! Bidding for 3.5 in Central Park South, had 4 free re-bid zones (Long Island City, Queensborough Bridge, Uppper East Side, Coney Island) Bidding process recap: Central Park South - $85 rejected CPS + Long Island City - $95 rejected, closed browser and started new bid CPS + QB Bridge - $105 rejected, but received notification that if I raised bid to $137 I would get the room. Instead closed browser and started new bid CPS + Upper E. Side - $115 rejected, received same counteroffer, instead closed browser and started new bid CPS + Coney Island - $122 accepted, Renaissance Hotel 57, a 4-star property, even though I was bidding on 3.5-star. Offer Price: avg. per room, per night $122.00 Rooms: 2 Nights: 1 + Add nights for the same rate! Room Subtotal: $244.00 Taxes & Fees: $58.06 Total Charged to Card: $302.06 Hotel website lists best rate for those dates as $319. Travelocity lists a rate of $279. Not too shabby.
  2. Great, that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks! Now if I can just get them to accept my bid!
  3. Sorry, I just realized my own error there. Priceline of course charges the entire thing to your credit card as soon as the bid is accepted. Duh. So I guess I just want to know if the names you fill in will have any implication at check-in.
  4. I'm planning to bid for 3 rooms on Priceline for a group of friends. I assumed I would make the bid with my credit card. When I get to the first page on PL, it states: "Please enter the name of the person who will be reserving each room. They must present a valid photo ID and credit card." It then has fields for three different names, labeled "Room 1", "Room 2", and "Room 3". Does this choice have any implications? I was planning to reserve all 3 rooms in my name, and we hadn't really determined who would be staying in what room. If I fill my name in for each room, will that pose any problems on check-in? I can't remember if the hotel ever really cares what card you use to actually pay for the room, or even if the same person who made the reservation has to pay. Anyone have any knowledge on this?
  5. Started bidding at $135 with 3 free re-bid zones available. Went up in increments of $10 till my bid was accepted at $155. After my first two bids, I was counteroffered for $170 and $185, respectively. I declined and restarted the bids both times. Hotel website lists their lowest rates for those dates as $199. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $155.00 Subtotal: $310.00 Taxes & Fees: $72.08 Total Charges*: $382.08
  6. Must not be much distressed inventory in Toledo this weekend. I saw some winning bids for 2.5* properties in the $30's from this summer, but I tried bidding on 2.5* for this weekend and didn't get accepted on anything like that. Anyway... Started bidding for 3* in the Maumee zone at about $43. Using free re-bid zones, stair-stepped my way up to $50. My $50 bid was rejected but it came back with a counter offer of $65. I declined, made a couple more free re-bids, and got accepted at $57. Hotel's website offers a lowest rate of $99 for the same date. Your Offer Price Per Room Per Night: $57.00 Subtotal: $57.00 Taxes & Fees: $16.38 Total Charges*: $73.38 Started all bids through the PRICELINE link on Betterbidding.
  7. Tried bidding for 3* properties in the West zone, starting from $45 and, using free re-bid zones, stair stepped my way up to $64. No luck. Thanks to this site, knew I could probably get this property for about $40. So I decided to go for it, despite some slightly mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. First bid at $41 was accepted. Posted a review on this site.
  8. Didn't have time to do a lot of bidding, just bid $60 as I felt that would be pretty sure to be accepted. It was. Started all bids from the PRICELINE link on this site. Really nice room. Posted a review on this site.
  9. Holiday Inns (not Express or Select) are just plain old. At least in my experience. This was no exception. My stay was 8/6/10 to 8/7/10. I was just looking for a place to spend the night during a road trip on I-40. I got this hotel for $41 on Priceline so my expectations weren't super high. Anyway, as expected the property feels, looks, and smells old. At check in, I presented my Priority Club number and they gave me a certificate for a free breakfast buffet (normally $10) or a free drink at the bar. OK. I got to my room and the first thing I noticed was that the bathroom smelled like mildew and the room was freezing. I turned off the A/C to let the room warm up and initially decided not to complain about the room as I just wanted to sleep and get back on the road in the morning. Once I turned the A/C back on, it was constantly turning off and on, and making weird noises. I didn't like the idea of trying to sleep with that going on, so I decided to request a different room. They were very nice and apologetic, and gave me a different room immediately. The new room was nice, the bathroom had been remodeled and was quite clean, and the A/C worked beautifully. It also was a little larger, with a full size sleeper sofa. The first room was appropriate for a 1-star property. The second room was appropriate for a basic 2.5-star property. I'm disappointed they tried to stick me in a sub-standard room when they had better rooms available. That was my biggest complaint. So be adivsed, as of this date this hotel has some decent rooms and some crappy ones, just don't let them try to put you in a crappy one.
  10. Got this hotel for $60 on Priceline, just looking for a place to sleep on a road trip down I-81. Stayed one night, checking in 8/2/10, checking out 8/3/10. The hotel was nice, and the room was great. Quite large. Clean, updated, nice bathroom with awesome shower head, absolutely no complaints, unless you're looking for a high-end widescreen HD TV. This one had only an "old fashioned" standard def TV. Had a full size sleeper sofa. Also had free Internet if you have a network cable to plug into the jack. Far superior than wireless in my opinion, less fuss and probably more secure. I can't comment on amenities because I just slept, showered, and hit the road. But as far as the property and room are concerned I would highly recommend.
  11. I guess the Omni must really be hurting for business. I was really bidding for 3.5*, but got upgraded to the 4* Omni. Bidding for Downtown Pittsburgh, 3.5*. Opened with a $55 bid. Rejected, but received a counteroffer that said I could get the room if I bid $68. I didn't accept, closed the browser and restarted the bid. Added a re-bid zone and bid 3.5* for $60. Accepted and upgraded to 4* Omni. The Omni's website quotes a lowest price of just over $200 for that date. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Fees: $16.21 Total Charges*: $76.21 Started all bids from the PRICELINE link on Betterbidding.
  12. (Moderator - sorry, I typed "Hyatt" instead of "Hilton". Don't know how to change it. But it should be the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina) I was shocked this bid was accepted! And upgraded! I kind of goofed, because Downtown was my "fallback" zone in case I couldn't find anything in the Beach zone, but I accidentally added it for a re-bid without thinking. Would have liked to have seen what I could get in the Beach zone, but I certainly can't complain about this deal, and the Downtown zone is pretty close to the beach. I bid 3.5* for Beach zone, $45 rejected. Added free re-bid zone (Miramar), bid $48, rejected. Closed browser and re-started, bid 3.5* for Beach and Downtown, $48, they accepted and upgraded me to a 4*. Sweet. Hotel's website lists their lowest rate for those dates at $151! Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $48.00 Subtotal: $96.00 Taxes & Fees: $19.34 Total Charges*: $115.34 Started all bids from the Betterbidding home page PRICELINE link.
  13. (Moderator, please note--This property needs to be added to the Priceline hotel list. It looks like a poster got it back in April and it still isn't listed, unless I'm just missing it, which is entirely likely) Wanted only 2.5* in the Canton zone (highest star level available in that zone), was able to use Akron South and Kent as free re-bid zones. Bids went this way: $40 for Canton zone $43 for Canton and South Akron Closed browser and re-entered $46 for Canton and Kent Accepted. This is too easy (*sigh*). All bids started from the link on betterbidding. *************** Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $46.00 Subtotal: $138.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $28.95 Total Charges*: $166.95 *************** Hotel's website has a lowest rate of $93 for those dates. Travelocity lists the same property at $97 for those dates. All 5 traveler reviews on Travelocity rated it a 5 out of 5. Thanks again. This website is one of the best uses of the Internet in existence. I hope it never goes away!
  14. This hotel had gotten some negative reviews on Tripadvisor, and I was somewhat disappointed when I received this hotel from a Priceline bid, as I had been expecting to get either the Westin, which is just on the other side of the Interstate from this hotel, or the Marriott, which is just a few doors down. But if you're worried about getting this hotel on an opaque bid, don't be. Granted it has some fairly minor drawbacks, but it is by no means a horror show. Overall, I'd call it an acceptable 3* hotel, though it's rated a 3.5*. I got it for $49 on PL, so if I had paid $80 I might be feeling a little different about the place. Now mind you, I'm pretty low maintenance and don't generally use many of the hotel's amenities like workout room, restaurant, etc. So I can't really speak to those. The hotel is a former Embassy Suites, so if you've stayed at one of those, you know the layout. I arrived quite early, about 11:45 AM. The lobby and courtyard areas are really quite nice. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and courteous, and told me it was a little early, but after checking she found that my room was ready, so I was able to check in early. Overall, the staff was professional, for what little dealings I had with them. The room was nice, a nice full 2-room suite with refrigerator and microwave. Typical Embassy Suites. The bed was quite comfortable. Parts of the hotel have completely been refurbished, including the rooms. I was a little disappointed with the bathroom. The tub, tile, and shower looked like they had not been refurbished and showed some age. I thought it could all use a really good scrubbing too, though I wouldn't call it dirty. Some might, though. Other minor drawbacks--the hotel is very handy to I-95, but also in a VERY busy area. Long traffic lights at a busy intersection, and be prepared to make a lot of U turns. There is a train track right next to the hotel, but the trains are mostly 2 or 3 car commuter trains that are not very obtrusive at all. And to top it off, there is a small executive airport about a mile away, so planes flying overhead too. However, I didn't really find any of this very annoying, for the most part. A minor distraction. Also, if you go into some of the remote corners of the hotel, it's just plain beat up and ragged. I went to the ice machine, which is at one far corner, and the wall had a big hole in it, the carpet looked old and dirty and it was just plain slumlike in that one small area. I don't know what's up with that. The hotel is about a 20-minute drive to the beach. There are your typical fast food joints and small shopping centers in the area, but it's not near anything "tourist-y" at all. So overall, it's not a showplace, not a dump. Good luck.
  15. Sorry I'm so late in replying, but after reading more reviews, I think this hotel may turn out OK. I've become kind of wary of negative hotel reviews, unless they are consistently negative. Some people just are never happy and always have to find something to squawk about. I'll try to post a review after I get there or after I get back.
  16. This was actually a bit of a disappointment. Even though this hotel is listed on BB's Priceline hotel list, I had seen a number of wins for the Marriott and the Westin in the same star level and zone. I hadn't seen any for this hotel, so I thought odds were I'd get one of the other two. Plus, the Tripadvisor reviews for this property are pretty sketchy. However, the price is right and it's only for 2 nights, and who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Last fall I had won the Hyatt Place (3*) in the Downtown zone for $60. It was great, good location only about a 10 minute drive from the beach and made for a very pleasant experience. So I was hoping to get another hotel in that zone or the Beach zone for about the same price. But other winners who posted here had been paying a fair amount more than that (~$80 or more) for those zones more recently. I still tried to do better, but had no luck. I bid for 3* in Downtown or Beach, was counter offered when I hit the mid $60's range to increase my bid $17, which I declined, and I could probably have gotten something in the low $70's for a 3*. At the same time, I saw other posters posting wins for 3.5* properties, mostly the Marriott and Westin, in the North zone for the $40's. So I decided to make the tradeoff of having a less desirable location to potentially save myself about $50 for a two-night stay. Man, am I a penny pincher... :-) For my successful bid, I made one bid for $46 for 3.5* North zone, was immediately counteroffered to increase my bid $15, declined, restarted the bid with a free re-bid zone and bid $49. Accepted. Started all bids (and I made a LOT of them over about a 2-week period) from the PRICELINE link on Better Bidding. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $49.00 Subtotal: $98.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.55 Total Charges*: $117.55 I'll hope for the best!
  17. Thanks. I'm pretty experienced with Priceline bidding, and I think I have a pretty good ballpark on price and bidding strategy. Bidding right now in Fort Lauderdale for May 18-20. I'll post my results once I succeed. So far I've made two rounds of bids for 3*, working my way up from about $37 (I always like to start lower than what I think they'll accept) to $49 the first round, and now I just tried another round going from $45 to $55. No soap so far. I'd like to get something under $60 if possible, and I may need to drop to 2.5* to get it done. Trying for either Beach or Downtown zones. Airport North has nothing above a 2*, so that gives me a free re-bid zone as well. Starting all bids from the PRICELINE link on Betterbidding.com.
  18. When you've made a round of unsuccessful bids on Priceline, then try again several days later, is there a chance you can make the EXACT same bid that was rejected before, and have it accepted this time? In other words, get rejected, but several days later make the same bid--same dates, same star level, same zone, same price. Or are the Priceline rates "locked in" for whatever dates you're bidding for, and you just need to start bidding higher? Just want to know if I'm wasting my time by trying the exact same bid, or if on the second round of bids I should start higher than my last rejected bid. I've got about two weeks, so I've got enough time to try several rounds of bidding.
  19. Another new hotel for the list, I believe. Had been trying to bid for a 2.5* in the eastern portion of Tennessee with no luck, bidding as high as $51. Just looking for a road trip overnight stay along the Interstate. Made one bid for a 2* in Kingsport, bid was accepted. Made bid through PRICELINE link on this website. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $42.00 Subtotal: $42.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.30 Total Charges*: $56.30
  20. Looks like this might be a new hotel for this site. Just made one bid, seeing if I could get the Courtyard, then would just make another bid for a 2* if that failed. But got this on the first try. Bid was for a 2.5* in Bristol, for $45. Started the bid from the homepage of betterbidding.com. The hotel's website offered a lowest rate of $91. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.82 Total Charges*: $58.82
  21. OK, I see that now. The "Airport North" is the name of the hotel, not the Priceline zone. Completely different thing. Thanks.
  22. One thing happened on this one that was a little weird. Priceline showed the highest available star level in the Airport North zone to be 2*. I was bidding for 2.5* properties so I had added the Airport North zone for a free rebid, but when the bid was accepted it said: "Congratulations, we
  23. I think the problem may be spring break. I was looking for rooms in Ft. Lauderdale for March, and noticed the prices went up sharply starting about the middle of the month. I think that may be why.
  24. I wouldn't give up too soon, depending on how much time you have. The problem is that with a 1* or 2* level, your re-bidding options are limited. So you may have to wait 24 hours or more between bids. But I have frequently gotten rooms via Priceline for less than half of what was listed anywhere else, so I don't think your $40 target is necessarily all that unreasonable. This should help: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained
  25. I didn't see this hotel on the Priceline Hotel List, so this may be a first timer for the board. I did see Tripadvisor reviews that indicated people had used Priceline. Reviews were mixed at best, but it appears mainly because of renovations which I think are now complete. More recent reviews are much better. Travelocity lists this property for $191 for those dates. The hotel's website says $185. I looked around much of South Florida for cheaper prospects and this is about the best I could do for a 3* property. This bid was done on a Monday for the following Friday-Monday. Started all bids via Savingsbarn. Started bidding at $55 and using re-bid zones (Downtown, Miramar, Airport North) I went through 62, 65, 68, 72, 75, 78, then was accepted at $82. Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Sunrise-Ft. Lauderdale West Ft Lauderdale - Plantation 3003 North University Drive Sunrise, Florida 33322 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $82.00 Subtotal: $246.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $39.06 Total Charges*: $285.06
