  1. I have used it for restaurants in the DC area. They have $100 gift certificates available for around $30...a great deal. Turns out these gift certificates are excess from Bon Appetit magazine and are totally legit. That said, it was a complete pain to get the restaurants to accept them. At both places where I used them, they were literally baffled by how I had obtained them and had to call the owner to determine if they were real. It was a real hassle. I guess the only thing I can say about Skyauction is that it can be a good deal, but don't be surprised if you encounter some hassle getting the discount.

  3. Got this on my first try. Bid on 6/02/06 A frousy hotel, but has a kick butt fan system that produces enough white noise to block out any sound imaginable. Slept like a log. Staff was nice enough and let me change rooms away from the obnoxiously loud elevators.
  4. Had no luck on 4* downtown at $100, then $120 (added Seatac knowing they only had three stars) and finally $135 selecting downtown and Renton (again, knowing they only had three star hotels). Bottom line: I'm thrilled. Save about $40 a night and got a well regarded hotel. Yay!
  5. Oops, I knew I'd forget something on my first post. The dates of my stay were April 2-7, 2006. By the way, thank you for running this board. It is an invaluable resource!
  6. Got $117 at the Renaissance Worthington in the Sundance District of Fort Worth using Priceline. Normally, the room runs $243. The hotel is actually really beautiful and recently remodeled. Could have possibly done better on the price, but was shooting for the government per diem and got it instantly.
