  1. When you see a likley identified hotel on Hotwire and you want to bid on priceline for that hotel/zone what percentage do you find of Hotwires price does it usually take to get an accepted bid? (I also know there are no guarantees you could be wrong) Is there a usual formula? or does it vary. What are your experiences? Thanks for your thoughts.
  2. I agree that one has to be careful about reviews that trash companies (someone always has an axe to grind) but when the overall a general consensus opinion it can be a good indicator. When reviews talk about people being stranded regularly and planes being cancelled I will look elsewhere. I saw the 377 on saturday on united as well. Settled on a NWA conecting to airfrance for around $400. Better food complimentary champagne and wine and brand new airbus as opposed to older 767's. So it was worth a few bucks more. Thanks to all
  3. thanks for the response I had seen that fare a couple of days ago on oritz and then it went away. I am avoiding air india because of a reputation from some of the travel sites for 1) cancelling lots of flights and leaving peopel hanging and 2) lack fo cleanliness on their planes. I think were going to switch to saturday and hop a codeshare on Airfrance out fo detroit price is right there and they a have a great reputation for good food and wine and cahmpagne even in coach!! thanks Found a couple of consolidators that only deal with travel agents and got an agent to write the ticket and charge for a very moderate upcharge does anyone have any experience in dealing with air consolidators good ..bad...or ugly??
  4. Looking for a deal on a one way to Paris Nov 17th Best I can find from a consolidator is around $425/ticket. Are there any suggestions for one way fares to Europe that you could recommend or sites/ways to get a great fare? Thanks
  5. We are thinking of doing a 16 day Transatlantic crossing this fall and were trying to decide between an inside cabin and an outside cabin. We have travelled with inside cabins before on 7 day cruises and love it. slept really well in the nice dark space. But 16 days is a long time to live in a closet! Second si the issue of seasickness on a transotlintic crossing. I have no experience but some of the reviews 've read and sometimes transatlintic crossings can hit rough water. If so a window would be nice to see a horizon. Any thoughts? We can think of a ton of fun ways to spent the $300 dollars along the way. Thanks
  6. first bid $16 full size accepted sept 1-5 PIT airport Avis total after taxes adn fees $90.48
  7. bid 16 got fullsize onthe first bid saved 10$ over hotwire or 10% not bad thanks and I used the link!!! I'll post in the results section.
  8. I actually have a little over two weeks before travel so I figure I have three opportunities. changed email
  9. I'm looking to bid at the pit airport and on hotwire a full size will cost me $107 after taxes and fees and a standard or mid size is $102 inclusive of fees on hotwire. How much would you bid under hotwires price of 19.95/day?? Interestingly bidding 19 on priceline woudl cost me more as ith taxes adn fees it comes to 108.70 thanks for the opinions
  10. Was in Ixtapa each of the last two years and loved it. The Las Brisas is off the beat and path a ways out of downtown Ixtapa (but a 4$ cab ride there anytime) It is quiter and more subdued than the other resorts and is not on the beach strip of Ixtapa. We looked at a room to scout the possibility of staying there in teh future and while hotwire would callit a 3* I don't think it deserves the luxury title. We went and had a drink in their open air bar and watched a spectacular sunset. All the rooms have this beautiful view. The room we looked at had a hammock on the balcony. If a beach is important to you Las Brisas dosent have much of one to speak of (they tout it as a private beach) We liked the downtown area of Ixtapa as there are amny nice restraunts to choose from. The Las Brisas we woudl choose if we planned on being secluded and taking most of our meals at the hotel. It is the nicest hotel in Ixtapa and is most likely the 5* listed (it came up that way in the vacation package for yor dates) This is a situation where I would not bid Priceline as the likelihood for the radisson coming up for less is very strong. While the Radisson would not be a total disaster it wouldnt be my first choice in Ixtapa. (see tripadvisors reviews) If youve never been to Ixtapa it is overrun by midwesterners in the winter. If you want a more authentic expereince I recommend staying in Zihuatenajo or at least spendign much of your time there. It is a much more authentic experience. There are some very nice places that are much nicer than even Las Brisas but I do not see Zihuatenajo as having inventory for hotwire or priceline
  11. I suspect from looking at offpeaktraveler that it is possibly (probably iimho) a skyauction subsidary. It is just a version of their buy it now option on the main site.
  12. I know priceline specifies double occupancy but has anyone ever had trouble putting more than two in a room booked with priceline for the Venetian? looking to try and put 4 in there and just want to make sure we dont have a problem at checkin. We would ask for 2 queens knowing that that is purely at the discretion of the hotel and if they gave us a king we could put two on the floor. Still pondering bidding 2 rooms but just wanted to know what others experience has been. What rooms have people been assigned on Priceline. Would you feel cramped with 4 in any venetian room?
  13. I'm looking to book a 3* or 3* for some frineds going to NO in April and the only priceline 48 i've seen come up lately is the marriot. I would say you have a good chance of geting the Marriot bidding. If you don't would it bw that bad to be at other properties in the area that are listed as 4*?
  14. Was trying to pick up an additional 2 rooms at the Hilton but ended up with 2 at the Wyndham which is a few blocks but no worries
  15. bid $43 recieved the dubious "add 12 to your bid and we can get you a room" Ignored it and added a free rebid + $2 and scored!!!
  16. Hi Liz, I just came back from San Juan yesterday and hated to leave (even if it was reaining it was still really nice)we did 5 nights there 3 pre cruise and 2 after. After not being able to sucessfully find priceline availability we blinked at the last Wyndham 72 hr sale before our trip for the first two nights at the Wyndham Old San Juan and for the last three at the Wyndham Condado Plaza. I was nervous because some of the posters at tripadvisor had hammered this hotel. I will address this in my review but we can't talk highly enough about the property. We stayed at the Wyndham Condado and were lucky enough to get yupgraded to a very nice oceanfront room. It was all I could have dreamed of (I will post a review on www.tripadvisor.com when I get the chance) while the hotel is a bit dated and the carpet a bit worn it is a truly great place to stay if you can get an oceanfacing room in the main building (these rooms represent 25% of there available space). There is a great deal of construction going on over by the caribe hilton i noticed but thereuare would be better at commenting if it affected his stay. We spent a great deal of time from Old San Juan to the condado to the Isla Verde area and of the three I liked the the Condado the best. There are some run down areas but I felt safe and went out walking at night without problem. Isla verda where the embassy suites is right by the airport and I wouldnt want to be that close to a major airport for a nice resport stay. In defense of the isla verde area it does have the only really nice beach area of the three areas. Wyndham seems to be trying to wean itself off of third party resellers of its space such as priceline and go toward direct sales like its 72 hr sales. The HUGE advantage of this for you is you are MUCH more likely to get upgraded if you book as a Wyndham by request member than through Priceline or any other third party site like Travelocity or Expedia. We booked a city view room f0r $102/night (which equals $125 after resort tax and resort fee) I would register at Wyndham.com for Wyndham by request and wait for a 72 hr sale and see if any availablilty for your dates come up and in the mean time conitnue to bid in the $80 range for San Juan. Saturday night is at he busiest night in San Juan. For my stay the rates that came up for the sale are as follows were Wyndham Old San Juan $65 Wyndham Condado $102, $95 and Wyndham El San Juan $163. We hung out at all three and if I had the chance wished I had booked a night at the El San Juan AS IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!
  17. Bid 4 * with three rebids starting at $38 hit at $44 for the doubletree. Would have bid 3* but the chance of getting stuck at the hoiday inn or the sharaton fourpoints though it might have been $14 it wouldnt be anywhere as nice.
  18. bid up to $110 resort and 3* 80 both rejected took the condado for 11-28 t 1092 off the wyndham sale and the old san juan for Wednesday and Thursday at $65 Thanks for your help
  19. Thats a really good point about being able to move it around. I will reconsider getting one that I can move around. I do need one because the two desktops are on different floors. Bought at Best buy so no rebate and I did double check with the soter to no avail. But it looks as though i may return that piece annywiays so no harm no foul thanks
  20. I let my better half make the choice and she decided to book the first two nights at the Wyndham Old San Juan (for $65/night not bad on the Wyndham sale) I was inclined to bid $65 for the first two days at the Caribe. (Note: she also decided she wanted a reservation for Wed night in case we didn't get bumped) I did bid for Friday 90 resort, 95 adding botique, $75 3* all rejected. I have one more bidding opportunity tommorow and will try one more time raising the 3* to $80. if that is rejected I think we wil have to take the Wyndham sale at the condado for $95. Thanks again. These Wyndham sales are really competing with Priceline/hotwire for San Juan.
  21. Ok well heres what i picked up . Its returnable if you think I can do better but the total package was $110 after rebates. I went with the 802.11B because I really dont do any sort of file transfer between computers as it is really just to use the cable modem on all three computers. There just was no technical advantage to upgrade for my application and it was $50 more to do it. D Link wireless DI-514 Router 29.99 after rebates D-Link wireless PC card adapter DWL-650 29.99 after rebate DLink DWL520 PCI Adapter 49.99 no rebate Let me know what you think Thanks for the information as well
  22. Do you have a preference of the Caribe Hilton or the Wyndham Old San Juan?? It looks like I can get a steal of a deal at the Old San Juan for Wed/Thurs night but not Friday We are thinking of taking the Wyndham Condado for $95 on Friday night or the Embassy Suites for $107 off of hotwire. Or maybe bidding up to these levels and seeing if anything comes up on Priceline (my guess is it would be the condado though it would be nice to see if the marriot or the intercontinental woudl come up)
  23. She was looking at screens indicating 9 (the max their system will show) of every room type. Allthe room types were still showing the maximum number of available rooms leading her to believe that the hotel wasnt that full. IU agree capacity levels must be pretty hight if the room rate is $265 for the night. I kind of don't want to stay at the Condado both before and after the cruise but economics may dictate that I do !!! Do you think I will be able to match anything for the price/value of the Condado (95/night) ??
  24. Bid San Juan resort 75 added rio-humico bid started a separate bid botique and bid $70 added 3* bid 70 all rejected Wyndham has annother 72 hr sale and I saw teh condado for $95 again and am awful tempted!!! Spoke with a res agent at the caribe and they are very open for availability in thir booking system (but no guarantee of lower rates becoming available!! What are your thoughts?
  25. I cant wait for a deal and am going to have to go out and purchase one of these but have no clue how to set it up. I will probably be going to best buy or office depot. Do you have a brand preference if price is equal?? I need to link two desktops and one laptop (I think net gear has a package that has the laptop remote included and then i only need to buy an additional module or the second desktop. Any thoughts? I wouldnt be in such a rush except I have a friends 21 yr old daughter staying with me for a week or two and am having to fight to get to the computer!!!!!
