  1. It is very frustrating that so many Marriott properties ding you for parking fees. However this is one where a free option is available. On the East side of the building, by the convention center, there is free street parking available on TG Lee Blvd on the last block before the road ends. This appears to be used mostly by employees and car services waiting for their pickups. Happy travels!
  2. Used to get good rooms in this zone for $30, now I get this dump and a resort fee of $22? I will stick to HOTWIRE from now on, at least they disclose resort fees. This was an expensive lesson, and I am done with PRICELINE forever.
  3. Thanks to all, I am still at a loss to understand why they have so many "Kelly Inns" in such close proximity. It has got to be very confusing to those just traveling through and not familiar with the area. The Kelly inn on Main ave would be acceptable, especially in the summer with the nice outdoor pool area, but we are going in March and need an indoor pool that is more fun. Anyway, I used the Best Western site to book the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn and suites for a little more than $100 a night. Might switch to the Ramada if their rates drop. Bargains are getting harder to find, maybe the economy really is improving...
  4. Friend: I am looking for a place to stay for an annual conference. I usually stay at the Ramada with the corporate rate but thought I would check Hotwire for a deal. Came across the same amenity set you described but I'm still not sure what hotel it is. Could you confirm if you received the Kelly Inn on Main Ave (formerly Best Western Kelly Inn) or the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn, a relatively new property. There is yet another Kelly inn on 13th ave but since that is a two star I don't think that is the one you got. Many thanks, Ted
  5. Just one more comment is necessary to add to this thread. The reason we are all here is that the posts and hotel lists give us enough clues to make a close guess as to what property we will receive. I for one use this info to avoid locations with parking and resort fees. Having read of $25 fees at some resorts, I will never be bidding a resort. I hope they appreciate the loss of business. Also, it costs nothing to complain, I got hotwire credit for the resort fee I paid and it looks like others have too, see this link to a CNN story: http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/03/18/resor...x.html?hpt=Sbin Better luck next time, Ted
  6. Hi Duck, I got that H-Inn dump last August on Hotwire and was scammed with the $3 fee too. I was properly pissed with Hotwire for awhile too. Eventually I got a hold of them and they gave me $20 of hot bucks to use on a future stay. Keep trying with Priceline and maybe they will make you even too. I'm hoping if enough people complain, these low life properties will be dropped, which is why I complained to H-Inn too. Never heard back, guess they don't care. I even slammed their business practice on Tripadvisor and can you believe that some foreigners (british I think) slammed me! THEY told me that resort fees are like taxes and always added to the list price! That is why they get away with it, because most people are sheep and accept getting fleeced. Funny how my review there disappeared, and other glowing ones are now, there-hello from the front desk... This forum is not the problem though. I have always gotten straight advice and although I didn't like being told that I agreed to resort fees under the "rules of service", that is a fact. I have not seen any conflict of interest here. I have not found better hotel prices anywhere other than priceline and hotwire which is why I use them for all our family trips. Happy Travels Ready.Teddy
  7. Now it is back up to $16/day. Listed as $18/day but when you click it and go to the detail screen, it says the price has gone down to $16/day. Such volatility! Good luck, Ready.teddy
  8. Damn, the rate is now down to $12/day. Hard to have patience though, usually it has been going up.
  9. I haven't used hotwire for a rental car or Avis for a few years. Not looking forward to standing in line and getting the insurance, gas, etc sales pitch but I saved $60 compared to my backup rez. Worth it? It all depends on the hassle at the counter. I got used to using the National Emerald club, but $172 total for a week was too good to pass up. Used the board's HOTWIRE link as always... Happy Travels, Ready.Teddy
  10. Thereuare: First of all thanks for running such a great website. It has provided valuable information and saved me a lot of money in my travels over the past few years. I asked the front desk people and they said the "resort fee" applies to every room. I am suspicous of this though as there is no information about this fee on Expedia, Travelocity, or even trip advisor. The fee is charged at check-in and maybe it is subjective, how does one know? Maybe they charged the next guy$10 a nite and the next was a regular customer and did not pay? It is a very hidden, hidden fee. The reviews on trip advisor are interesting too. I cannot believe so many people are so happy with this average hotel. One review comments on the extra fee but they mistakenly thought it was "taxes". Anyway, next trip we are staying at disney. There are some really good rates at the all star resorts. Ted
  11. fitness center, pool, restaurant, internet. My original plans for this trip went awry, so I did a same day booking and got this dump. It is not that it is so horrible, but it is just plain. While the corporation is running a national ad campaign touting their renovated rooms and new attitude, this place is stuck in the past. Dark, old room with floral print curtains, pattered green carpet, and an ancient TV. While there, I got a telex from the 80's, they wanted the room decor back... This place has the nerve to charge a resort fee of about 20 bucks a week! I have been to resorts and other HI's and this is no resort. There are no resort grounds, the place is surrounded by a parking lot. The parking lot is not large enough and if you get back from the parks late you have to park over by the crab house restaurant where security is iffy. There is no resort size pool with lifeguard and activities. Only a small pool overlooking the parking lot and about 75 feet from the garbage cans at a nearby restaurant, yuk! In short, there is nothing that any other holiday inn in the world has and includes in the room rate. I think I see how this game is played. Some <explitive> hotel owners undercut the competition to get sales on HOTWIRE and then ripoff the hotwire customer for a so called resort, energy, service or parking fee. This is not only unethical, it pisses me off. I will not buy from this zone again. Better luck to the rest of you. Ted
  12. I got this on the first try so maybe someone can save another dollar or so. I didn't expect it to hit though, being summer high season and not finding any deals using the rental company websites with coupons, discount codes, etc. Haven't used PRICELINE for a car for awhile but the rental websites are a lot higher than last year. Previous comments regarding fees are true, PRICELINE has more profit built into the fees part of the transaction and HOTWIRE must get more from the base rate. Regardless, it is the bottom line that counts and considering that I scored pretty well. National and Alamo were around $350, Dollar with a discount code was $309, Hotwire was $233, and with priceline: all in for $206. Thanks to this forum for all the info and I always use the PRICELINE support link. One more thing, although I am happy with the deal, I really wish I would have gotten National or Alamo. As some of you know they are located at the airport terminal and you can pick your car from the lineup so the chance of getting a POS is lower. My last experience with Hertz was in Vegas and they really screwed me with a very well used, smelly car and a bastard of a salesman who kept pushing insurance and fuel. Hope Orlando is a better situation. Anyone used Hertz there and have any comments? Peace, Ted
  13. With: Casino, Fitness center, Pool, and Restaurant. I was surprised to find a bargain for a Friday & Saturday night. Total was $48.80 for the two nights. A slow time in Vegas, just before the big Rodeo show. I didn't see this one on the hotel list, so if the moddy could add this maybe it will help some others. Looks like the reviews are mixed so I'll do a review after my stay. AND I used the betterbidding HOTWIRE link as always. Ted
  14. I believe this is the same deal I got last January, and it is the westgate lakes. It is a timeshare resort and they try to get you into one of their tour/sales pitches. As a hotwire/priceline customer you are NOT under obligation to take the tour. Just be sure to decline the "free breakfast", directions to your unit, and whatever snare they have now. When you check in just ask for a map and you can easily find your unit. It is a little hassle to go thru but I think worth it. A good location, great pool area, and nice walking paths along the lake. See my review on tripadvisor.com from last Jan for more details. From the other reviews you can see that you need a lot of backbone to refuse the 2-3 hour sales meetings. A good respose is to tell them is that if I can find such good rates to rent why would I ever buy??? If a person did want to buy, use a timeshare resale outfit and pay 10-20% of what they are selling them for retail. Overall, it is a good price for a nice secure place although I think I see better deals nearby on international drive. Good luck, Ted
  15. Was hoping for someplace with a pool but this will do for one night. Used the PRICELINE link from SavingsBarn.com as always. I didn't see this on the list so I guess it is a new hotel to priceline. Ted
  16. I would be cautious in this case. I've looked in that area too on hotwire and figured a deal like that was probably the Holiday inn Skokie. While that one has an indoor pool, the reviews on tripadvisor are pretty bad. Why not look west a suburb or two and try to get the Sheraton suites in Elk grove village. It has an indoor pool, nice suites, and is a reasonable price on hotwire or priceline.
  17. This is a nice place to stay if you can get the type of room you need. I bought the room about 7 months before the trip and called a few months before to insure that a non-smoking room was requested. Well, at check-in I got the "sorry" story and the explanation that Hotwire customers get whatever remains after their own customers get the room of their choice. The room was dirty, stinky, filthy. Smelled like a bar or a truck stop. Windows only opened 4 inches. The first night was totally unacceptable. I complained more strongly the next morning and they promised to "deep clean" the room. They were actually oversold and walking people to a nearby Holiday Inn so I asked if I could get a nonsmoking room over there. No, you can call Hotwire about that they said. I called hotwire and they just said giving me a smoking room fulfilled their contract and hung up on me when I pleaded for a clean room! I am not happy with the hotel or Hotwire. I know you take your chances with Hotwire and I have gotten used to having a long, long walk from the elevator and a great view of a parking lot or delivery entrance but I at least expect a clean room. I did not get what I contracted for. Even Motel 6 guarantees a "clean, comfortable" room. Only consolation is that I probably paid a third of what their preferred customers did.
  18. Holiday Inn Chicago - Schaumburg/Hoffman Est. 1550 N. Roselle Rd. Schaumburg, Illinois 60195 (847) 310-0500 This was a Days Inn in a previous life. Seems to have had an extensive renovation. Room and lobby quality were as good as any Marriott or Hyatt. Clean, comfortable, quiet room. A few things were different than other Holiday inns. It only had an outdoor pool which was OK but not too inviting. The free breakfast was very good. I would stay here again. Ted
  19. Holiday Inn Chicago - Schaumburg/Hoffman Est. 1550 N. Roselle Rd. Schaumburg, Illinois 60195 (847) 310-0500 Ammenities Complimentary Breakfast Pool Fitness Restaurant Business Ctr Check-in: Sun, Jun 10, 2007 Check-out: Mon, Jun 11, 2007 Hotel Quality: 3-star Midscale 1 room(s) @ $39.00 per night x 1 night(s) $39.00 Hotel Taxes and fees: $12.48 Hotel Subtotal: $51.48 Total Price: $51.48 Used the board HOTWIRE link to purchase, as always :) Looks to be an old Hampton Inn that was rebranded. That would explain the lack of indoor pool and the comp breakfast. The tripadvisor reviews (2) are a little too glowing, I think the owner/staff planted them. I'm a little underwhelmed, but I'll try it for one day.
  20. OK, I did it for a day on a trip I am planning in June. It is the Holiday Inn Chicago - Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates 1550 N. Roselle Rd. It does indeed have a comp breakfast according to their website, never seen that at a H-Inn before. The pool is outside which will be nice in June but probably closed in April. Looks like an older property but has great reviews on tripadvisor. Also a little cheaper on a weekend day. Check-in: Sun, Jun 10, 2007 Check-out: Mon, Jun 11, 2007 Hotel Quality: 3-star Midscale 1 room(s) @ $39.00 per night x 1 night(s) $39.00 Hotel Taxes and fees: $12.48 Hotel Subtotal: $51.48 Total Price: $51.48
  21. This one is pretty interesting. Probably not the Holiday Inn because of comp breakfast. Probably not the Hawthorn due to a restaurant. Could it be the Embassy Suites? Could it be a Country Inn & Suites as they sometimes have a restaurant attached to the property? Anybody take a chance and ID yet?
  22. Laundry is the only listed feature. A buddy booked this for his upcoming vacation. It is only about 3 miles from the Rosemont CTA station. $46...4/11/07-4/16/07
  23. I was recently helping a buddy with a hotel in that area. I think it is more a match for the Hawthorn Suites.
  24. Just planning ahead for some times when I know the kids are out of school. We stayed here before on their spring break and loved the place. I was glad to find it for such a great rate. It really pays to travel during a slow time in the hotel business. Ted
