  1. Thank you for your reply. No decision has been made yet to book but will use your link if we do and report the outcome. Appreciate this website as a great source for travel info.
  2. I'm looking for hotel for 1 night and because I want 2 beds I put in 3 adults. This 3 1/2 star shows up with these amenities. When I put in for 2 Adults it doesn't show up. Any ideas? Hot Rate Hotel Boston Common - Theatre District area 90% recommended 45%OFF 1 Hot Rate room 1 night 1/2/15 to 1/3/15 3 adults You save $100 $220 ǂ $120per night Amenities: Indoor Pool Restaurant Smoke Free Room Business Center Fitness Center Internet Access Pools
  3. Took a chance and booked and it was: Holiday Inn Manhattan 6th Ave 125 West 26th Street $184 per room per night Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area hotel Recommended in 85 % of Hotwire customer reviews Amenities: Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant Hotel Rate per night:$184.00 Nights:3 Rooms:2 Taxes:$110.52 Occupancy tax:$79.20 Fees:$39.80 Trip total:$1,333.52 Since I'm used to only booking 1 room on Hotwire I made the mistake of putting in 3 adults (to guarantee 2 beds) but forgot that it was 2 rooms. So when I realized the mistake I called the hotel directly and told them my mistake that there are 4 adults and that I was trying to get two beds so thought I was entering 3 per room. Oh well. She agreed to note my request for 2 beds/2 rooms non smoking but there is no guarantee. I called Hotwire and agent said that after 24 hours they could not change the occupant number to 4 even though the price would not change. I then emailed customer service with the same request and they answered: Thank you for contacting Hotwire Customer Care regarding the itinerary number ****. I understand that you would like to add people to your reservation. We cannot manually change this information in our system. If you have confirmed it with the hotel, then you will be ok. Hotwire will not charge you for this reason. So I have something in writing by Hotwire about the mixup to show at checkin. As added backup I joined the Holiday Inn Primary Program to flash when I ask politely for 2 beds.Normally I book Priceline (via your site) and take a chance for 2 beds and so far have succeeded. Because this is work related I didn't want to take a chance. So fingers crossed! Prices on nonrefundable hotel sites averaged $224 and Holiday Inn prices were $252& up refundable.
  4. 3*Chelsea-MSG area 6/3-6 Identify? Looking for two rooms for June 3-6 (Sunday-Wednesday) Want to get 2 beds so entered 2 adults and 1 child. This hotel shows up: Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area Hotwire Price: $184 $314 other sites* Best value Recommended in 85 % of Hotwire customer reviews Amenities: Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s) When you check for see all amenities Business Center and High speed Internet Access show up. Any ideas which hotel this might be?
  5. Empire might be too far uptown for my fellow travelers. Plus we hope to get 2 beds (even though there's no guarantee) and boutique hotels don't always have that option.
  6. Have always had success bidding for a room at a great price (3 1/2-4* under $120) but am finding this time period to be difficult. Looking for something convenient to Grand Central or Javits. Have tried 3 1/2 - 4* up to $170. Trying to avoid the Hudson because of small rooms. Willing to stay in Empire, MSG, Chelsea, Times Square, Midtown East. Have been checking out the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins to get a sense of price range of bids. Have a back up reservation at The Gershwin for $209 plus tax but would like to get something better for less. Any suggestions?
  7. Started out with $95 bid for 3 1/2* Times Square-Theater District - Rejected Added MTE & upped bid to $100 -Accepted -Rooosevelt Hotel Average Rate on Hotel Website is $199 Stayed here in November for same price. Location near Grand Central is a plus (and the yummy Kolache Mama snack outpost in hotel is a real plus!) . Used PRICELINE link.
  8. Tried a few weeks for Saturday & Sunday dates (4* & 3 1/2*)but didn't want to go over $125 for a casual, last minute trip so changed to just Sunday night (usually the cheapest date). Checked out Hotwire date and what looked like the Roosevelt was $139 (avoided Midtown Central since Hotwire's $119 hotel was probably The Hudson). Bid Strategy: 3 1/2* MTE $95 Rejected Added Times Square $100 Accepted The Roosevelt Hotel New York 45Th And Madison Avenue Check-In: Sunday, November 8, 2009-04:00 PM Check-Out: Monday, November 9, 2009-12:00 PM Room 1 Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $100.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $100.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $26.59 (USD) Total Room Cost: $126.59 (USD) Happy with this hotel since it's close to Grand Central (though not as close as my last winter's win of the Hyatt Grand Central for $105!). Great price and good opportunity to try out a different hotel. Will definitely run over to your fav-Ess-a Bagel (love their pumpernickel raisin). As always, used PRICELINE link. Big thank you to this site and everyone who share their wins!
  9. Also the PATH station at this location has a small elevator so that will be a big help with luggage and strollers.
  10. When I stayed at the Hyatt Jersey City a few months ago I used the Metrocard(per ride card) for the PATH train- the $1.75 PATH fee was deducted from the card. So if you are in NYC for just a few days you can use one transit card -Metrocard- for PATH and NYC Transit. The PATH line doesn't accept the weekly (or daily) unlimited card which is the best deal for you since you're staying a week. The unlimited allows you unlimited bus and subway rides . The regular Metrocard ( for ex: $10 or $20 card which give you rides plus bonus$)allow you a free transfer within 2 hours ( subway to bus, bus to subway, or bus to different bus line) .So if you want to save transit$ plan trips with that in mind.So for example: if you want to get a quick breakfast in one area (ex:Soho)- take a subway- and then if you want to go to the Metropolitan Museum- hop a bus within the 2 hour limit and the trip is free.Hope my explanation makes sense....
  11. Grand Hyatt on 42nd street across the street from Grand Central Station! Actually it's connected to Grand Central Terminal (not across the street), you can access the hotel via the Lexington Ave pathway-there is a glass door on the right that is marked with the hotel's name.I stayed there a few weeks ago and it's a great location- bus stops right in front of hotel as well as access to many subway lines in Grand Central.
  12. Just came back from a weekend stay at the Hyatt (posted bid $105 for 2/29-3/2) and was very pleased with the hotel.Always wanted to stay here because of the easy access from MetroNorth. The hotel can be accessed within the terminal via the Lexington Ave Passageway. There is a glass door on the right (near a bank) with the Hyatt sign. This was great since the weekend was stormy and very cold. map link: http://www.grandcentralterminal.com/mallDirectory.pdf Great service:Checked in at 11:30 am arrival, requested 2 beds and a view- given a dbl bed room on the 30th fl with a view of the Chrysler Building. Restaurant tip: Great brunch near the Hyatt at Cibo on 2nd/43rd (Daily News Building). They offer a 2 course (many choices)brunch on Sat. or Sunday which includes a drink (mimosa, bloody mary), baked goods basket, coffee/tea for $18.95. see www.cibonyc.com for details.
  13. Thanks again to the info posted on the board I reserved a room for 2 nights at the Hyatt for $105 a night. I was aiming for the Hyatt and from the $105 bids I was seeing on the board I used this strategy: MTE -low bid $100 Rejected with message of one time offer for $22 ( no way! thanks to info learned from this board...) So started Free Rebids: Chelsea-$102-Rejected MSG- $104-Rejected UES- $105-Accepted Hotel: Grand Hyatt New York 109 East 42nd Street Park Avenue And Grand Central Station Check-In Date: Saturday, February 28, 2009 Check-Out Date: Monday, March 2, 2009 Yeah! $105 for MTE looks like the base price for this time period.I've always wanted to stay here because I'm traveling via MetroNorth so this is great as far as easy access to train, subways, and bus. So thank you once again- so much fun (though a little nerve racking-does that ever go away when you press the submit button?)to work around the bidding system. Also my dining tip for the area: Cibo (2nd Ave between 42nd-43rd-Daily News Building) has a terrific 2 course brunch(many menu choices) with drink, coffee, and muffin basket for $18.95 on Saturday and Sunday. And Used the PRICELINE Link
  14. I've stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay before ( and have booked for late May too at a great Priceline cost of $118). It is a very good hotel- elegant, old world style. Check out the beautiful ( and affordable) perfume shop Caswell Massey at the back via the lobby. Many dignataries stay there during UN visits. We booked via Hotwire and were given a room on arrival at 11:30 am- and it was a large room , 2 beds, and a view. The reviews you are looking at are usually from people who've spent $300 and up so they might be extra critical. Easy access to Grand Central during the week via the underground tunnel at corner of 47th. Near enough to Rockefeller Center, Times Square, 5th Ave shops,Madison Ave boutiques ( and Ess- A-Bagel ?) but much quieter neighborhood.
  15. Won 2 rooms at the Intercontinental Barclay @ $118 for 5/29-6/1. From looking at previous posts-I started out at MTE for $110 and received message to add $22 more. Rejected that offer so added other areas that would work for this trip for a convention at Javits: MTW @ $115. Rejected. MSG/Convention Area @ $116. Rejected. Times Square @ $117. Rejected. Finally added free rebid zone: Upper East Side @ 118 Accepted. Using info from this forum I was pretty sure that I was bidding for the Intercontinental from the start so I was happy I got it at their minimum bid. The hotel website showed rates starting at $255.I've stayed here before and love the easy location from Grand Central plus its elegant, old world charm. Thank you forum! and used the PRICELINE link.
  16. Checked Hotwire and hotel was $109 for this date. Offered $90 and was accepted. Extend Offer was rejected for Saturday. Won this hotel for Sunday in September( $90) and loved the hotel. Couldn't check in until late in the afternoon but was rewarded with a 6th floor corner room with fantastic view. Also enjoyed the pool after a very hot and humid day in the city . Used the PRICELINE link. Date was 11/9/ 08- 11/10/08.
  17. Saw that Hotwire had the Hyatt for $113 for the Sunday date so went to Priceline and bid $90 and was accepted. Was offered add a day but rejected date for Saturday. Used the PRICELINE link.
  18. Thanks to your price alert last November we jumped to this deal at the Westin for $32 a night.Total for 3 nights came to $100 with tax and a $25 hotwire credit! Just came back from our stay (4/26-29) and had a great time. R :) oom was on 11th floor with a street view, 2 queen beds. Checked in immediately at noon arrival. Service was fantastic-they even lent us umbrellas during our rainy weekend. Thank you one again for sharing this info!
  19. If you do a search on Hotwire for the car/hotel package deal for the same dates the 3*Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn appears so it is a possible match. When I did my search last September, Hotwire gave the Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge a 3* rating and at the time listed 3 amenities (complimentary breakfast, internet access, and business center). I did post my win at that time so the list would upgrade from 2 1/2 stars but I forgot to add the 3rd amenity.
  20. Be aware that HOTWIRE is also offering a 3* hotel in Brooklyn with 3 amenities that is the Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge that is in a deserted industrial area. Check out reviews on www.tripadviser before you decide to book. I booked it in October thinking it was the Holiday Inn Express on 4th avenue which has better access to subways and near restaurants. When the booking turned out to be Comfort inn- I complained to Hotwire about the 3* designation and after 3 weeks and lots of documentation- was given a refund.
  21. I wouldn't worry about the reviews. Maybe the criticisms are from people who paid full price since it's hard to justify paying over $400 a night. Stayed there 2 winters ago and it was a wonderful experience. Even though we reserved via Hotwire ($83!)we were treated royally. Checked in on time, granted our request for 2 beds and a view (overlooking Lexington Ave). The lobby is bustling with activity. Beautiful flower arrangement in the center (though Christmas Tree might be on display now). The hotel houses foreign leaders when the UN is in session. Dining tip:We enjoyed a $19.99 business lunch during the week at the French Bistro Montparnasse ( 53rd/3rd?- check their website). If the weather is bad during the week- you can use the undergroud passage on the 47th st corner to walk to Grand Central Terminal/42nd. Check out the holiday light show on the ornate ceiling at Grand Central.
  22. I stayed at the Radio City Apartments last winter. Not fancy but clean and quiet. The kitchenette is a nice addition. Attracts lots of European tourists and budget travellers. Great location- 1 block from Times Square & 1 block from Rockefeller Center. Lots of inexpensive delis and restaurants nearby. Near major subway and bus routes. So I would consider it for a backup. Check out the reviews HERE
  23. Update: After 10 emails and mailing a package of documents including tripadviser reviews, map of area, and brooklyn websites describing the hotel and unsafe area. Hotwire refunded my purchase. So patience, lots of facts, and report to credit card co. finally worked. Still a 3* but with more negative feedback ,rating might change.
  24. Any advice about the area at night. Not planning to stay out late- probably betwen 10pm-11pm latest so is it advisable to get off at Union subway station and walk down 4th Ave and up Butler St (is it really a deserted stretch?)or is there a better route that is more populated at night? I'm also thinking to get off at another subway station and then transfer over to bus route on 3rd ave so i'll get closer to hotel.
  25. Just purchased 1 night- 10/19/07 at the Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge with listed amenities of complimentary breakfast/internet.Was very suprised since this has been sited as a 2 1/2 *. I did email Hotwire that a Comfort Inn in an industrial section of Brooklyn (279 Butler St- nowhere near the Brooklyn Bridge but near the Gowanus Canal!)doesn't seem to merit 3*.At least The 3* Holiday Inn Express is right on busy 4th Ave. Hotwire representative replied that hotel has been researched and rating upgraded to 3*. I do know the area so I'll make do- probably do subway to 3rd Avenue bus to get closer to hotel at night. Anyone had experience here would appreciate travel tips. Oh well... at least the price is very good for this date.
